Sugar sounds sweet (110,029)
by Stacey from USA
| |

SS sounds like a complete song whereas TD felt like it was missing an ending. I thought Shenseea and Kehlani's parts were nicely mixed throughout the song with Mariah. I love the sample of ILT. I hope the video is MC late at night having flashbacks of her guy. That's the vibe the song is giving me. Any guesses about who the song is about? The first two guesses don't count, lol. Like ILT, I feel this song will grow on me.

Well I doubt it will be the 20th number one. Astonishing that in 7 years she couldn't come up with anything even remotely different to what she's put in the last 20 years. Thumbs down. The only thing keeping me "here for it all" is the Clarke Sisters number and seeing what McCartney song she covered.

Glitter is a no skip album for me. From top do bottom. Adore that album. Rainbow as well. Butterfly is a whole another level. TEOM is good from number 1 until 7, then I just skip to 14, 15, 16, 17 (de luxe edition).

I understand better today the reason why just 11 tracks because of the hype statement on Record Store Day's website. The hype statement says:
"Here For It All is Mariah Carey's new forthcoming project with Gamma. This album marks the start of a bold new era for Mariah. It balances her legacy with fresh cultural relevance and pop significance."
MC hasn't had an album you can listen to without any skips since Butterfly. Here For It All is going to be that no skips album.

I am here for TEOM. I wasn't a huge fan of ILT at first. It took time for the song to grow on me.
It's a special occasion Mimi's emancipation A cause for celebration I ain't gonna let nobody's drama bother me Cause it's my night No stress, no fights I'm leavin' it all behind No tears, no time to cry Just making the most of life

No maam, I never skipped a single track on TEOM. MC sequenced the heck out of TEOM perfectly. I think that is what she has done for HIFA. I have already analyzed the potential genre of the songs which we don't know the titles of yet.
1. The Stereotypes produced song is an uptempo jam. 2. Here For It All ft. Anderson .Paak 3. Type Dangerous positioned perfectly here so the album can start paying homage to every era of MC's career. 4. Sugar Sweet ft. Shenseea and Kehlani 5. The Roget Chahayed song is an uptempo jam. 6. The Daniel Moore produced song is a ballad. 7. The Harv produced song is a midtempo jam. 8. The Bongo ByTheWay song is definitely midtempo or a ballad. 9. The Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney song could be Dear Boy or My Love or Live and Let Die. 10. The Clark Sisters gospel song is described by Nostradamus on X as Amazing Grace and Ain't No Way. 11. This Daniel Moore produced song has explicit lyrics. So possibly it could be Clown 2.0 or Did I Do That? 2.0. 12. Hoping for that Bryson Tiller feature on the Amazon Exclusive CD.

Ok, an instant ear worm. I love the beat and love how all 3 of them blend seamlessly on the song. No one feels like a cut and paste after thought. This is how you arrange a trio - Walter take notes. Doesn't seem short at all. I think it'll do better with the streamers and the TikTokers than TD did. Feels more like a Mariah song than TD did (no hate for TD, I do really like it). Another interpolation (ILT) that fit well. Has potential to do way better than TD. I love Mariah's chest voice specially on "I hope that you don't mind, I'm gonna take my time". That's the sweet spot of the song.
If I had to nitpick, I know Mariah loves to add all her textures but her head voice isn't as smooth anymore. And the fan art cover. Actually fan art has become brilliantly better with AI.
Will be interesting to see how it does - JLo has dropped her Birthday song as well. I know we all need to not focus on chart success anymore but the truth of the matter is that unless she and the label see decent numbers, there really won't be much more music from her.
Also, Bobby A. I may be wrong but I feel like Here For It All might be an introspective ballad with Daniel Moore.
Happy Sugar Sweet weekend guys. No more reprimanding please.

It's light, neat and sweet. Like a summer hit. Touch My Body vibes. I love that the lyrics are easily relatable. Their voices blend very well. "I hope that you don't mind" part reminds me of a song on Caution but I can't figure out which one (maybe because it's 7 am). I hope that song will get recognition.

Promising start, disjointed middle, underwhelming ending (110,020)
by John from USA

So, Sugar Sweet is finally out. Started out really nice, with Mariah's voice front and center. Immediately hits you with a Bieber like vibe and "swag". When the 2nd and 3rd non-MC verses come though, why does it feel like for those moments, it stops being a Mariah song? It's missing something... like Mariah maybe cooing or doing backing voice during their verses. Chorus is repetitive with no variation from one to the next. Ending doesn't grip you. I was expecting at the start of the song that it'll take me for a sensual albeit fun and light ride, but that feeling immediately ends when the guest verses come in. This one would've been better had Mariah sung it all throughout. I hope others like it and it still becomes a hit.

I hope "Here For It All" performs well. "Type Dangerous" has already out-performed all of the singles from "Caution", so that is a good sign.
It saddens me that Mariah's team in 2018 botched the rollout for the "Caution" album. It was a solid album, and she was correct in her criticism of the "instant grats" approach. And they should not have released it so close to Christmas.
It seems like Larry Jackson and the Gamma people have it together for this album's launch though. Hopefully "Sugar Sweet" benefits from the hype built by "Type Dangerous".

You know, in retrospect, I don't think seven years has been that much of a wait in comparison to some longer breaks that other artists have taken. Janet Jackson hasn't had a proper studio album since Unbreakable in 2015. Toni Braxton took eight years between Pulse (2010) and Sex & Cigarettes (2018). Maybe Mariah will be able to get more music out now that the twins are teenagers and with Larry Jackson and the Gamma team supporting her.
I'm looking forward to hearing the new music, and I'm really excited for this "Live and Let Die" cover. I love it when Mariah pulls off a random 70s/80s rock cover for us. It seems like some of the songs selected for the album were recorded earlier in the process than others, and it's clear that there were multiple sets of sessions for the album as we heard about during her interviews for the last few years. The collaboration with the Clark Sisters and the songs with just Daniel Moore seem to have been completed before the sessions with Anderson .Paak.
This summer has been super hard for me personally, but having a new Mariah album to look forward to has seriously brightened up my day(s). Happy to have people like Bobby A keeping me in the loop with his X research skills

Actually no. I've been rather chill. I literally ride the "reprimand" joke at this point. I mean my album title was, Reprimanded: The Art Of Hibernation. But it is a drum that a couple people here keeps beating, I don't know why. There was really no need for a subtle diss. But I hope this ends it. Trying to enjoy the roll out of Here For It All.

"Folks just need to stop feeling like it's their duty to set others straight, to reprimand" is not a direct "hit" on you. It's not even an jnsult. Good grief, lol. But rather a general statement toward all those in the 20+ years I've been posting here who act like that. But you keep thinking you are right about me fooling people all these years into thinking I'm a saint. It's laughable to make judgements about someone you've never met in real life. But you keep thinking you are right about me. My posts and overall conduct the past 20 years say otherwise. But keep on thinking you are right.

Yes, I discovered Folded last night tbh and I loved it. Never heard her songs fully through until last night and I was pleasantly surprised. I like Shenseea's music as well especially her latest feature with Shake It To The Max Remix. It would be dope to see Halle in the video. Imagine MC using Halle's name in the lyrics since that was a trending moment of showing all the songs that dropped her name. Maybe MC will try to get in on the trend and also name-drop and have her in the video.

Yes, we will. Kehlani has a beautiful voice and her song Folded is her biggest streaming song of her career right now. I like Shenseea's song Work Me Out with Wiz Kid. By the way, Halle Berry just posted lyrics from Sugar Sweet for a call-and-response from Lambs. It would be cool if Halle Berry is in the video. Tomorrow is going to be a huge day for MC.
