Lead The Way (98,051)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |
|
|
I was reading an article from Archives mentioning Carey's lost music. And I have to agree with what they said about "Lead The Way". Next to Butterfly song, I believe this is one of her best and greatest ballads and work in her entire career. If she could create something like this and release it commercially, it could be, again, her chance to have a worldwide hit, if not hitting No. 1. Just saying, but I don't think it's going to happen with the people she's currently working with for her next album.

I think it was actually for "No More 'I Love You's'", as Walking on Broken Glass was from her first solo album in the early 90s.

Modern female singers (98,049)

Well maybe it's not about "style" or "genre" of singing anymore? There's really no one that sings how Mariah or Whitney or Celine sang now. Lol. There just isn't.

I never knew Annie Lennox Walking On Broken Glass was the winner of Best Female Pop for the Grammy in 1996. The year Mariah was nominated, and didn't win a thing. Hmmmm.

Ok ok ok chill hahaha I just thought it was interesting I love me some Dionne Warwick, in fact she's in all my mixed playlists, and I often watch her throw it down live. Oh, and whoever it was that posted the comment that she wasn't asked about Babs or Whitney, you're absolutely correct just I brung up my cousin anyway hahahahaha but you ever hear someone sing the shit out of a song like my cousin?

Good lord. But I gotta say I am so relieved we're past that nightmare era. I honestly thought that Mariah would never come out of that and that had irreparably damaged her image. Thankfully she bounced back and has a much better image now and good will. But everything about Jigsaw's era was straight up destructive. From the fringe projects to the body suit moments to the cringe Instagram takeover by Jigsaw's daughter. It felt like the family had total control over Mariah. I was so shocked and how Mariah wasn't realizing what a mess this train wreck was but better late than never. If it was up to Jigsaw she would have ruined Mariah. Thankfully we're past that mess now.

What I've noticed is that I'm once again listening to new music that's been coming out recently. After a few years there of barely connecting with anything, I resorted back to my CDs. Now I'm excited at so much of what's being released by so many different types of artists and I'm loving being exposed to it. Perhaps some of it is the sweeter melodies you mention. I love all those songs you named and those are just a few.

Will this case ever end? Geez Louise. Mimi and her spiral era, still spinning. What a mess, but here is old, cold tea, Mimi and Tiny seemed super tight for a while. Shella produced TI and Tiny's reality show, then Mariah's trainwreck show. I wonder if TI and Tiny are on any of those tapes.

That's all your opinion and she gave hers, or rather reserved making a statement. Neither opinion is right or wrong, just pick a side and agree or agree to disagree. It's not that serious. You're acting like she said hell to the no Mimi is not an icon. That's not what she said.

Yas, but it was a LQ video, probably not finished, let her mix it and stuff. But great potential and a good teaser before her album. But I want her to give us at least an uptempo club banger after Christmas on New Years Eve. Take advantage of your title MC.
I want her to release 2-3 songs before that. "Higher love" is one of my faves and I believe "I've been thinking about you" could be the next big thing. I want Mariah to forget us and really try one more time and cater her music to the general public. I know a top 20 isn't far fetched without much effort.
Mariah is good for life, after this era whatever comes, I'm just gonna enjoy the music and not care. She is already the most successful female singer songwriter producer of all time and the industry biggest hitmaker. She left her mark on the world and most importantly my heart.

Dionne is amazing and definitely a legend in R&B but she was so wrong, I wanna hear her opinion about Elvis and some other people, success wise Mariah is up there with the greatest. I also believe talent-wise she is years ahead of the same people. I don't care if you spent 70 years in the biz, Mariah accomplished more in [her] first 5 years then she did for whoever long lol. Mariah is really a rare diamond, for being so successful yet still so talented. Rare combination, most people on top of the charts aren't the most talented ones.
But I'm seeing right through her like she is bathing in Windex. Michael said something about Madonna once but this applies to Dionne 100%. Don't quote me and I'm not quoting MJ. "People can compliment you, adore you, smile for you but inside they really jealous of you." One of the most disgusting traits a human being can have.
I have never in my life said, "Ey yo, play that Dionne song" and never will. Lol but my mom do love her.

As someone who goes and judges any song by the melody first, this sounds promising. Love how the edgier, harder-hitting chorus provides a nice contrast to the sweeter melody of the verses. And that beat does knock. This is usually the type of production that Jimmy and Terry would reserve for Janet.
Speaking about sweeter sounding melodies (which the Somewhat Loved verses have), does anybody else notice a trend pointing towards that in some of the songs hitting the charts recently? Their commonality seems to be that they're usually laid into retro-infused productions, like Ariana's 34+35, Silk Sonic's Leave The Door Open and Doja + SZA's Kiss Me More. Not complaining.

She responded about who she was asked about, Barbra wasn't mentioned. He asked her about a few 90s singers. It's a loaded question especially when no one knows what these divas will day about another singer.
The Diane Warren comment was responding to Bill. Also, Aretha said Whitney was a true talent during the same interview where she shades Taylor. Mariah wasn't mentioned.

I found one more YouTube video that is still up by We Are Lamibly. Jam and Lewis must be prepping it to be the next single for their new album. I like it now because of the breaking my heart chorus part.

I loved it. The hook was catchy and I liked the bridge. Hoping for a vocal moment at the end. Her voice sounds really good and she is singing in full voice. Gone is the unnatural vocals on certain parts of her home performances. She didn't sound well on those. Though is the first song since Beautiful that has the mass appeal sound she was known for in her early years blending pop and r&b. I see Jimmy and Terry's people took the song down. Who are they signed to? I wonder if they are releasing it as a single and giving it a decent radio budget.

It's confirmed by the fact that the link Bill posted now says removed due to copyright claim by Jam & Lewis.
Plus I don't think she's that far along on her own album/project to release a single yet - buzz or otherwuse.
A bit confused about how I feel about the song - need to hear the whole song. Parts of it sound good.

Lol to the Diane Warren. Hahahaha. No, she was definitely Dionne when I watched it lol. Sorry, I didn't realise it was already discussed. I don't think Dionne should say anyone is an icon, nor any other "classic" diva. Just was bizarre to me she hesitated etc and Aretha said Mariah was a true talent. Dionne said she was an outstanding songwriter. Meh again, I bring up the point no mention of Whitney lol or [Barbra] actually, who Dionne has covered a lot.
