Re: The Rarities - first week sales (95,845) (95,849) by Bobby A from United States
Well there goes MC's chance at being number #1 next week. Bryson Tiller just announced his third album Anniversary will drop October 2nd.

I'm going to guess 10k. Maybe 15k. A #29 debut. I agree that they have done some good promotion. But I think more is centered around the book. Which will probably sell more and rake in more money so that's why. Just my two cents. And now I shall go pre-order the book and CD from Amazon, so there's one more unit sold of each. But I don't plan on buying 9 more of either.

Skyoooze me? William Shatner is warp speed to Number 1.

Does anyone know when Audible preorders arrive?

It's past 0001hrs and I still don't have it. I even kicked off (I know, out of character, right?) on email and they wouldn't be specific. I am literally here with champagne waiting.

Re: The "Someone's Ugly Daughter" album (95,846) by BFF from United States
Am I the only one who is not very surprised by this? I remember in an interview Mariah once said that she loved the album "Live Through This" by Hole (Courtney Love's band). That album came out in 1994. I can totally see how making an alternative rock album would be cathartic for Mariah in 1995, and I really hope she unearths the version with her vocals and releases it.

Re: The Rarities - first week sales (95,844) (95,845) by Bobby A from United States
I think The Rarities will sale about 160,000 physical and digital copies during the first week of its release. It will debut at number #1 on the Billboard 200. Bon Jovi is her only big competition.

The Rarities - first week sales (95,844) by Weston from United States
So, how many units do we think "The Rarities" will sell in its first week? And do we think it will debut in the top ten (possibly #1) on the Billboard 200? No smash hit single on the airwaves, but Mariah and Sony have been doing a good job promoting it. Plus, the buzz surrounding her book. I'm hopeful, but I just don't want one of those #28 debut and falling quickly albums. Thoughts?

I saw that earlier and just died. The layers. She is truly an elusive chanteuse lol.

Big Willy Style (95,842) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
So, William, what is the game plan? Have you the spreadsheet ready to go? Do you have a USB for backup should the file become corrupted? Have you chosen the font? Are you using Mariah's Friz Quadrata? Are you going to read through quickly once and then start your analysis? Are you dedicating a certain amount of time per section? Do you have a copy of the book for annotations and a spare to keep unopened to prevent spine crease and/or to keep out of sunlight to prevent page discolouration? Will you read with dust jacket on or off? Do you have tweezers or non-powdered gloves to page turn?

If you have ever seen Red Dragon with Ralph Fienes and Anthony Hopkins, the main antagonist, Francis Dollarhyde, rips up and actually swallows the painting of the Red Dragon. I keep imagining you doing this with Mariah's book, lol.

Don't drink too much red wine, now.

Grunge-riah: a dream come true (95,841) by bliss! from Brazil
Knowing that Mariah had a secret creative life during Daydream has made me even more proud to be a fan of hers.

I love some of the grunge bands that were famous during the 90s, such as Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Hole, and I usually listen to them to do exactly what Mariah did: let my frustration and anger out. Then, when I'm calmer, I go back to my beloved hip hop and R&B.

By the way, I always thought Debut-Riah could easily sing any song from Temple of the Dog's only album and I would be super happy to hear her singing raw lyrics such as "Violet" from Hole.

I hope that seeing her fans reaction to the Chick project makes her realize that we will embrace – or at least be curious about – her music not matter what, and that we would love a jazz album as well hehe.

Re: Chick songs (95,833) (95,840) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Um, if Mariah performed these songs in a concert I'd ask for a refund. Whilst it's totally crazy and yet fun that she took part in this, the music is shit. It sounds like 80's British punk or grunge (or some other word that makes music instantly sound unappealing). This is more Courtney than Alanis. Still it is cool that Mariah did things in secret for fun.

The whole album is available unofficially on YouTube Music. It's bloody brilliant, I love Prom Queen.

Hah, this review on Amazon UK for the Chick CD is great:

"I loved making this CD - glad (a couple of) people are enjoying it. There is a secret ingredient."

Alternate Mariah (95,836) by Mara from United States
My mind is still completely blown. I can't believe all this time Mariah has recorded an alternate/grunge album and kept that a secret 25 years ago. All while "being Mariah Carey" in the day recording Daydream, and then really letting it out with Chick. I do remember her expressing she was a fan of Hole and was with Courtney Love in a few pictures. It's insane to me because I have always loved Alt/rock and grunge being a Nirvana and Soundgarden fan as well as Hole and Veruca Salt, as well as Mariah and George Michael being my first love. To know that Mariah had this secret makes it all the more mind blowing. It also makes me a bit sad as she was a 24/25 year old young girl who lived through the grunge years too and as a person who appreciates music prob liked the girl grunge groups like Hole and how their anger was able to be expressed. All along she was married to the head of Sony an older man and felt trapped. She knew she had to be "Mariah Carey" and could never be one of those girls. She was so polished and branded already. Not that she would be taken seriously singing alt rock either at that time. It wasn't "cool" for their audience to like MC. It really puts the song "Looking In" into a whole new perspective. "She dreams of all, that she could never be" and "They'll never know the real me". Very poignant in retrospect to her secret. I would give my all to hear her lead vocals on the whole album and especially the song Demented. Makes you really wonder what else she has in that vault.

Grunge meets Rock-Mariah. Haha. What a surprise. I remember an old interview where MC said that she loves "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I was really surprised back then. But now it makes even more sense. Mariah is music, she can do all genres. That's phenomenal. What's up next? I'm done and super excited.

Chick songs (95,833) by Manuel from Germany
We need to petition Mariah to perform some of these songs in her upcoming concerts. Plus the "new" songs from The Rarities album. I am shook to the core that she recorded this album with Clarissa. It needs to be available for streaming.

Re: Why is she still talking about JLo? (95,826) (95,831) by Bill from the UK
People in glass houses and all that. Mariah herself stole beats/sampled without permission (same thing) on many tracks and settled out of court. Emotions (Best of My Love), Can't Let Go (Right Before My Eyes), Make It Happen (I Want to Thank You) and plenty more. A quick breeze through whosampled.com and you can see the surprising amount of uncredited samples she has used across her album tracks and remixes. I mean we all know about the So So Def Remix of Say Somethin' by now don't we.

Where is the hint? I've been watching the video without any results. I did think of Eminem when I read "Hello, my name is" on one of the pages.

Butterfly EPs (95,827) by enwar00 from usa
I just wanted to share how grateful I am for the timely MC30 releases this summer. No doubt possibly a ray of light for others during such a bleak year. My favorite bunch so far, unsurprisingly, are the Butterfly EPs. I faced a huge loss last month so these songs have once again brought me solace.

It's so nice to be able to easily stream these EPs and mixes without having to play the CDs or go on YouTube. I'm also into many of the dubs now, whereas I really wasn't in the past. What are some of your favorite EPs and mixes?

These really stick out for me:
- Honey Smooth version, I really wish the no intro was also included
- Honey Morales Club Dub - I'd never heard this before and love how it's a different vibe, will be listening much more often
- The Roof Full Crew remixes, both no rap and with Mobb Deep, absolutely love this mix
- The Roof Morales radio mix and even the After Hours Dub, never heard either before
- Butterfly Sambaterfly edit, also never heard before, it would be cool if the full length was included.
- Butterfly Def "B" Club Mix

Re: Why is she still talking about JLo? (95,793) (95,826) by Jono from USA
Your ignorance is showing. Mariah hasn't "stolen" beats, that's called sampling. It's a completely legal and common process where you pay the original composer/producer to use it, also known as clearance. What JLo/Tommy did was steal ideas from Mariah that were so blatantly obvious. I'm Real (remix) lifts the concept from If We, and we all know about the Loverboy debacle. In art you can be influenced by people, but stealing someone's idea to try and pass it off as your own is taboo. Please do your research before you come on here acting like a damn fool.
