TEOM vinyl (97,024)
by Bobby A from United States
| |

I received my TEOM vinyl today. I received the Gold edition that was only exclusive to Urban Outfitters. Did anybody else receive the Gold edition in place of standard black vinyl that you ordered on MC's website? Actually it is a Silver vinyl edition listed on MC's website. I received the Gold edition.

Merry Christmas and MC II You (97,021)

It's wonderful to see Mariah's Christmas albums do so well on the charts. Aside from AIWFCIY being a huge success, the albums seem to do better each year. I have every Christmas song she's released to date and it's just magical, a perfect pairing. I love her version of Sleigh Ride right now.

I did ask for one album. I picked one that I love every song, from start to finish. I guess it's harder to do for some. Just like I can't pick a favorite Mariah album, it depends on my mood. Memoirs was the most "cohesive " and one of my favorites, but I can't pick just one. Charmbracelet, Butterfly, Daydream, Glitter, E=MC2, it's hard to pick just one.

I thought you wanted one album, which is hard to answer (and interesting to do so). Listing 5+ or 10+ is easy. Pick one!

I think some fans don't even care to hear the same ole same ole repeated ramblings. I've been over the memoir peddling and the queen of Christmas shtick this season. I loved Caution and the whole vibe of its rollout, the interviews, the tour, even with Christmas falling in between. Thoroughly enjoyed the 25th anniversary of Merry Christmas, the reissue and AIWFCIY hitting the top spot, what a total celebratory moment. I'm hoping there will continue to be more non-Christmas music in the near and further future. I couldn't care less about a biopic. Of course I'll watch, and hopefully if won't be as cheesy as the Christmas special. Thing is I'd rather hear an album from an artist I love than buy their skin care line. Unless this is just about the money now. Ok so I'll have to listen to the Christmas albums the next couple days to counterbalance this post. On a positive MC30 has been cool, so I still have hope.

I saw Mimi on their show today. This was a rambling interview, where she tried to get in all the same talking points, but they sounded rushed and forced. She didn't answer in short clear points. it got to be difficult for non fans to know what she's talking about, or to care. But anyway, it was nice to see Cha Cha.

What's your perfect R&B album? I know we love and praise Mariah here, and she embodies perfect R&B, but who else's album do you go to for this fix? Mine is Toni Braxton's The Heat. I never get tired of it. I love Toni.

Re: Merry Christmas and AIWFC RIAA certifications (96,957) (97,009)
by Nikki from usa

Most likely because it's an EP. Those aren't considered to be albums. An Extended Play is too short to be an album and too long to be a single. They typically have 6-8 songs on them. Had she sung a few more songs on it than it would most likely be considered a live album. In which case, you'd see it there.
It might be a good idea for her to do a live album now. It could be streamed. She could play it on Youtube or a variety of other platforms since views and streaming now count toward the RIAA certifications. The die hards can buy and the regular folk can stream free.

That trend though (97,008)
by Nikki from usa
| |

After the MIAM album, there's been an ongoing trend when Mariah releases new music. It's a stand off single that's solely used to promote another project. "Infinity" was to push her residency. "I Don't" was to push her reality show. "Oh Santa" is used to promote her Christmas special.
You'll notice when Mariah's doing an actual promotion like she did for her last true singles "#Beautiful" and last year's "AIWFCIY" she begins promo early and does a lot of it. Last year, Mariah was revving up hype at the end of October. She debuted her new versions of the music video and began social media campaigns on November 1.
Meanwhile, "Oh Santa" debuted on December 4th as a prelude to her Christmas special debut that same day. Delivering a new song this late literally only gives Mariah 2 weeks of play value before Christmas is over. She's not doing anything else to promote the song and it's not easily found on other platforms. Clearly, this wasn't intended to be a new hit.

The lack of push from Spotify definitely hurt it. Oh Santa! isn't even on Ari or JHud's featured pages. Some people say that's because it's a Mariah song that's only featuring both artists, but then Rain On Me is a Gaga song featuring Ari and yet it's one of the first tracks you see on Ari's page. Up on Twitter, Reddit and other forums, Ari's fans are also quite disappointed because they know from experience just how accessible her new music usually is due to Spotify's automatic playlisting function. The fact that they had to search for Oh Santa! to play it (many weren't even notified when it dropped) was something new for them. Ari has 70 million listeners on Spotify (a huge chunk of that from the US) and yet the number of listens for the song remain so low especially considering she's arguably the biggest female star in the world right now.
Oh well. Guess Mariah should work with The Weeknd or BTS next.

I think Ariana is a pretty cool person. She behaved immensely well in the immediate aftermath and subsequent to fallout of the bombing of Manchester Arena. She has, with a few hiccoughs along the way, shown herself to be quite a decently behaved person. And her voice is extremely unique and beautiful. If Mariah's voice is honey, Ariana's is velvet. Unfortunately, I think most of her songs are boring. How "Positions" stayed atop many a chart for so long baffles me. But like most modern music I "huh" it and forget about it (modern music being mostly unmelodic pap it is easily forgettable). But Ariana is great. Her duet on Over And Over Again with Nathan Sykes is hauntingly beautifully/beautifully haunting.
It is, though, alarming, that O Santa! bombed. Featuring Ariana on a song should have sent it skyrocketing. Instead it fizzled and fell. Mariah's inability to get anything but AIWFCIY to chart well unfortunately means she is possibly in the denouement of her career. Not even Ariana - or Santa - can save it now.

Ariana's clip of her speaking about the AIWFC compilation she was asked to de a part of last year is very sweet. She totally fangirled and got emotional about it. It was endearing. It's in her upcoming Netflix special.

I kind of like the new version better than the 2010 one. Production wise it's definitely better and [Snoop] brings his flavor making [magic] with Mariah's re-recorded vocals which sound fuller. Plus for the most part Jermaine is kept on mute.
