Mariah after Midnight (95,320) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City) Personally I was not offended by the article, nor am I disappointed with how MC came across in the article. Also the writer seemed happy with the experience. I think that this is prelude to the memoir, and I am ready to read, and enjoy. And I agree with you that the rags-to-riches story will always be interesting. The parts about her family were touching to say the least. How sad and complicated things must have become for her to refer to her siblings as exes. And I must say, despite having heard her life story in many different forms over the years, the memoirs just might be the ultimate interview we've all been waiting for. I never thought that ending of the song, "they'll never know the real me" was also meant towards her fans. Article: Mariah after midnight (95,311) by Matthew from USA It's funny, because I agree with the author. Despite how legends want to be seen, this is probably how we most want to see them. I didn't find this grotesque. I'm happy she's in a good place. The author also mentioned earlier in the article that she would have been disappointed had she shown up to mansion to witness an "I'm just Mimi from the block" performance. It seems to me that the public is just as invested in Mariah the diva. There are numerous clips from the early days where an exasperated Mariah repeatedly laughs off rumors that she needs 100 white kittens and 100 white doves in her dressing room. That she eventually incorporated some of the outlandish characteristics the public wanted seemed inevitable. After this much time in the industry, people have had ample time to form an opinion on who Mariah Carey is. This article is unlikely to shift that. And if people weren't interested in hearing the rags to riches story for the umpteenth time, they simply wouldn't send writers to her home or give her an advance to write about herself. And yes, she could pour her own water, but given the state of unemployment Andrew so righteously pointed out, I'm sure Ellen, whose job it is to pour the water, is furiously giving him the evil eye just about now. Generalizations (95,310) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada I don't disagree that 1990-1996 is her prime and I still like some of the music post 1996. Some people don't. Not a big deal. Everyone on this board is entitled to their opinion including Andrew. So tired of the fact that he constantly gets singled out as the bad fan. He actually does make very valid points. I see him making an effort to communicate in a different way as of late (my opinion of course feel free to disagree with me I won't die lol) and I have enjoyed reading everyone's point of view. I don't always agree with people here. There are many times I don't if I'm being honest and that's OK. I don't really care what anyone thinks of my thoughts or opinions. I'm here because I enjoy reading about an artist that has greatly impacted my life. I like when a view different from my own opens my mind to something I might not have considered. That interests me. And I also believe it is very healthy to 100% disagree with someone and still respect them enough to not try to change their mind. That's just part of life. It is important to be able to think for yourself and express it without looking for anything else to give validation. I don't post as much anymore because frankly I'm busy and I guess I don't feel I take the life and career of Mariah Carey as seriously as others might. She'll remain one of my favourite musical artists though. Some people might consider me to be "overly positive" but I'm not oblivious to the fact that Mariah has her flaws. I'm not stupid or delusional. I know Mariah's voice is not what it was in her prime. I know she doesn't always make stellar choices. I know she lip syncs and I have stated many times on this board that I believe Tommy did make very good decisions from a business standpoint that set Mariah's career on a path that was instrumental in helping her achieve her legacy. Did he do it by himself? No. But neither did she. That doesn't mean I believe their marriage was healthy. Yes, she has had personal problems, absolutely. Pretty much every human does. As a fan, I do have my preferences. I prefer less of the sex kitten image. She doesn't need it. She is a naturally stunning woman and I personally feel as a woman myself, less is more. Being authentic and real is sexy. But that's just me. It is her life and her body she's going to do what she wants with it no matter how many opinions on her life are voiced. MC30 has been a fun ride. It's been really nice to take such a celebrated look at her catalogue. I have mixed feelings on the book. We shall see how it goes. And I think Subtle is about the same person. If not Derek, it's some puppy love connection pre-fame. For some reason I hear a connection between The Roof, Lullaby, and Giving Me Life. I only wish Mariah had the first verse and Whitney the second. And Mariah's contribution to Every Time I Close My Eyes lifted the song from middle-of-the-road, forgettable pap to something spectacular. I first heard it on Top of the Pops through the wall from my brother's bedroom whilst in the bath one evening. I jumped out and ran naked into his room shouting "That's Mariah, that's Mariah." My brother couldn't get over how I could identify Mariah from backing vocals, faintly, through a wall. And, also, how much bigger my penis was than his. Which is all true. Except for the penis bit. I dont know about you but I see a rich, pampered, spoiled woman using her wealth to make minions dance around her, nervously fretting over her absolute satisfaction whilst she lies back in the lap of luxury with such worries as candlelight throwing shadows over her chins, all the while moaning that her fame and wealth were difficult and people were a bit mean. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, millions are dying, millions are losing their jobs and people are quarantining at home in tiny box apartments. But don't you cry for yourselves, little people. Decades ago some people said some bad things to Mariah Carey. This is actually grotesque to read. So some people were racially abusive many years ago? This will make me even more popular here but I am just going to say it: Mariah, get over it. How long ago was this? How long ago was Tommy? Look at everything that you have, Mariah. Look at the people pissing themselves with fear that your water is not tepid enough. Doesn't that embarrass you? The more time has moved on the more people have just stopped listening to Mariah rehashing the same old bullshit whilst she acts like a spoiled diva. Yes, everyone is entitled to pain and to relate that pain, but come off it. All I saw here was Mariah trying to attach herself to current racial tensions in the United States which is not helpful and, frankly, really obnoxious. It will endear people to her about as much as trying to associate such crap as Save The Day with current US politics will. I'd rather she just said she is incredibly thankful all that she has. You don’t know her (95,299) by We are lambily from USA The title is obviously meant for all the Karen's in the world who still don't get her and who left her in 1996. Lol just for laughs. This new New York article really made me even more excited for the memoir and I never thought that was possible. It's gonna be explosive and not in a way that most would expect. All that divaish are for laughs, time to get serious. This is seriously one of her best articles I have ever read about her. Andrew mentioned a while ago that most people on this board prefer 1990-1996 music and honestly that's because most of you guys are middle aged white dudes. During those years her music was mostly directed towards her "pop audience" and she obviously is grateful for that success but it was really the r&b/hiphop community she wanted attention from and be a part of. Butterfly album is more than her magnum opus, it's really her. Mariah Carey the human being and Mariah Carey the artist. If sales and achievements meant to her as much as her art she would released [Music Box] 2.0 straight after [Butterfly] but she came back with a even more hip hop/rnb sounding album. Like someone mentioned before that she would trade all of her success for the same recognition Mary J gets. And that says a lot. This new book will honestly heal Mariah's image in so many ways. And I can't wait for Mariah to remind the general people of her life, struggles and blessings. Let's hope we get a documentary after this pandemic.
