MC's sleep struggle (110,433)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
You're right. I usually would say it's because of the lighting: "You're not giving me a key light, so I'm putting these on." But she did an interview with The Breakfast Club before, with her own personal lighting, and she still put on shades. It's usually a rare thing, but in all the recent interviews (Capital FM, Capital XTRA, KISS, Smooth Radio, Heart), she consistently had them on. So that's bizarre.
The explanation that makes the most sense is puffiness and eye bags. Mariah struggles with sleep, so she would look like she hasn't slept. And with aging, wrinkles have probably started to become more noticeable.
Someone recently captured her getting out of her car or arriving at a hotel. They caught her just a second before she put the shades on, and I've never seen her look that old and tired. For once, she looked relatively closer to her age.
The common denominator with these interviews is that they're all daytime events. And like she said, "I don't have time for this daytime sh*t, I should be sleeping." Makeup could conceal the tiredness and puffiness around the eyes, but a full glam session takes time, and Kristofer probably isn't available every waking hour, so shades it is.

I agree 100% with you on that one. She was so flirty and present back in 1997 in that interview. I wonder why she wears those huge sunglasses inside and it's like she's on weed. Really slow.

Daniel Moore vs. Big Jim Wright (110,404)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|

This is fun. Daniel worked on In The Mix, Fall In Love At Christmas, Portrait, and Type: Dangerous, which I thought are all mid. I get what you mean though. I think Moore is more encouraging to Mariah about embracing her recent voice after seeing that Mimi session. I can hear him say, "It's okay, we can lower the key here."
Big Jim worked on Circles, Fly Like A Bird, Cry, and It's A Wrap, which are better songs, so to me he's a better match for Mariah musically.
However, Mariah's most superior collaborator will forever be Walter. I know we share this sentiment. It's like music geniuses, match made in heaven. That was God's will. All I Want For Christmas Is You, One Sweet Day, Hero, Outside, Close My Eyes, Forever, My All are unmatched. Mariah hasn't made a ballad quite the same ever since.
I truly do wish she would squash whatever unforgivable sin Walter did to her and just get on making new music.

Here For It All snippet (110,431)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

I like it. The only part that I don't like is when the first time she sings "here for it all" in the snippet, the "all" is flat. It's either she didn't realised it or she did it on purpose.

Bryan Tanaka (110,430)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
One thing I'll say is that Bryan genuinely cared for her. It was reassuring to know he was by her side. But deep down, I think we all knew it wouldn't work in the long run. It was clear Tanaka wanted more than just to hang out and have fun, he wasn't just playing house. I believe at some point he even proposed, but Mariah turned him down. It makes sense that he'd move on from a relationship that wasn't going anywhere. He's young, and he probably wants a family.

I love it already. The look MC had while the crowd was listening was like "I wrote that song." She is really embracing who she has become this year. I don't see or hear the sadness like 3 years ago. You go, MC.

Grammys (110,426)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
I know some of you may not care for Mariah to snag any more Grammys but I do. I will never get over how U2 won album of the year in 2006. We all know "The Emancipation Of Mimi" was a much better and bigger album. I felt Mariah really deserved that one. Also not to hate on Beyonce because I love her but it's ridiculous how she has so many over Mariah. "Drunk in love" is a garbage song yet won a Grammy. I know Mimi has one or two gospel songs on the new album, one with The Clark Sisters. If it's as good as J Valentine says it is maybe Mariah will be nominated for best gospel song/performance and snag a Grammy.

Mariah's reaction to Katy Perry skyrockets (110,421)
by Bobby A from United States

Any medication change your mood and energy level. Also, thanks to the lovely ladies that I work with in a classroom, I have learned more than I wanted to know about how menopause affects women. One of the ladies is 57, and she has mood swings and low/high energy levels that drive me crazy. Maybe MC is in the midst of menopause.

Unfortunately this is Mariah now, over medicated and numb. How can she expect her songs to have any energy when she's like this. When they showed the old interview with Jamie Theakston, it showed a complete contrast in her. There she was lively, interactive and engaged. Now it's like her batteries are half full at most, she's disengaged, slowed down and flat. Yes she has some fun moments but the energy is low and doesn't let herself go or relax like she once did.

It's probably because she can't make eye contact with people properly because of anxiety etc. If she needs the medication fair enough but personally it's not working for her in my eyes. I too have bipolar 2 and less medication is better otherwise you become numb. I've recently 10 months ago reduced my antidepressant by half. Initially I got symptoms and withdrawal symptoms but it's passed and now wonder why I was ever on that other dose which wasn't even that high either.

Maybe she’s on the medication. Selena Gomez is on. Selena Gomez gives off the same vibe. I mean, if they need it to help them live a better quality life, I don’t mind as much that they’re zombified. Britney Spears had that vibe when she was a judge on the X Factor too.

Daniel Moore vs. Big Jim Wright (110,416)
by T from USA

Barbara [sic] Streisand still works with Walter, so something must've been said why Mariah was turned off by working with him anymore. Maybe it was as simple as he didn't pick sides between her and Tommy. Who knows? But yes, he was her greatest co-writer/producer for ballads. Followed by JJ&TL, then Big Jim. Daniel Moore doesn't have the superstar talent. I'm glad we got to hear One Heart One Voice.

Great music (110,415)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
She's dropped weak singles before. You're Mine (Eternal) comes to mind. Never too Far should not have been released as a single over Lead the Way. Angels Cry and With You should not have been released as singles over other more radio (or playlist) friendly songs on their albums. They're great songs but they're the type of songs you discover when listening to a whole album. For singles that are going to get airplay you need something that will grab and keep people's attention.
When you're on a high point of your career, people will buy whatever you're putting out, it doesn't matter. But when you're trying to make a comeback after being away for a while, the singles do matter.

Great music (110,412)
by Lambi from USA
| |

Not gonna lie, I was actually really hopeful after reading that grand Gamma article. But after hearing the new singles, it seems like the quality of songwriting went down with Mariah's choice of co-writers. It's not bad, still solid by normal standards but Mariah is just held to a whole different level. She's literally never made one bad studio album. Ever. This is actually the first time she's dropped weak lead singles. It landed me to a hopeless point. I still want her to come through and prove me wrong though. Shut me up. I'm rooting for that.
I think your assessment might be correct. This could be the Charmbracelet to the Emancipation. Only time will tell. But like you said, it is great quality music no matter what.

Sugar Sweet remixes (110,414)
by Dove from United States
| |
|

That would actually be sweet if she re-released Sugar Sweet with remixes and a cute video. I would like if she wrote more verses (to give it more meat) and sung it all herself in one mix. The mix with Kehlani and Shenseea is cool and will still exist.
The video could even be home videos of her with her kids. I like seeing Mariah in "mom" mode sometimes. That song feels like being a kid in the summertime to me, eating popsicles and watermelon on the Fourth of July while watching the fireworks.
The high parts that bothered me before are starting to grow on me. I wanted them to sound like honey and they sound like cotton candy, which is still nice.

by Lambi from USA

For whatever reason, this is the one that every media outlet picked up and it's going insanely viral right now. It's interesting to see how the general public perceives Mariah. The comments range from: "Is she high?" "Is she drunk?" "Sedated Mariah is forever a mood," to "She sounds like she's had a few."
What's crazy is, I actually thought her recent interviews were decent, definitely better than the ones in Australia. But to the average viewer who isn't a lamb, there's no mercy; they'll just call it like they see it. I really hope she eases up on the meds. While she's not totally disoriented, it's obvious to the casual observer that something feels off.

Great music (110,409)
by Edward from USA

I love the fact the board isn't stuck on the idea that great music has to equal chart positions anymore. These days, almost anything can blow up into a forgettable hit and disappear just as fast. Of course, I would like to see Mariah score a couple of big hits, but I'm not losing sleep over it. She's already proven herself time and time again. At the end of the day, the general public has the lard word on what catches on, and that's fine. Personally, I'd rather not hear any more new tracks before the album drops, unless it's a video or some fun remixes for "Sugar Sweet". I want to savor "Here For It All" the way we used to, sitting down, pressing play, and letting the whole album take me on a journey from start to finish.

MC can be sarcastic but I genuinely believe she had no idea about those women going up to space. Which is so awesome because the average person didn't care either. They tried to present it as, "One giant step for womankind," but it flopped and backfired so badly. Nobody took any of them as serious astronauts.
