Re: Triumphant (94,817) (94,820) by Randy from USA
Who are you? Firstly if Triumphant was your introduction to MC you missed out on a colossal amount of quality work. And who listens to an MC song for Meek Mill's verse? And don't get me wrong both raps in the song are stunning but MC was a guest on her own record. And You're Mine Eternal was the most boring song ever. It put Gilbert Godfried on steroirds to sleep. Look I welcome all different opinions and viewpoints on this board but you are living somewhere between Candyland and Oz if you think MC's work around 2012-2014 holds a candle to 1993-1997 output. And we didn't ruin those songs, we want MC to win or else we wouldn't be fans. But you can't put out mediocrity and expect the sheep to do cartwheels.

Yes, I love this version too Terna. Don't be silly though, this version isn't suitable for an iron pumping workout, it is however perfect for spinning round the living room and fitting in the odd pirouette.

Triumphant (94,817) by We are Lambily from USA
It was the first era for me as a lamb, and to see how the lambily literally ruined this moment for Mariah was heartbreaking. Nobody hated the song more than her own [censored] fans. Same thing happened with [You're mine eternal], the fans kept commenting everywhere that is a underwhelming [WBT] part 2.

Ona side note, [Triumphant] was a song beloved by all my friends' groups especially the male ones. Meek delivered arguably one of the best rap verses for a Mariah album since the 00s. [Warning: The claims in this post are not supported by facts.]

You must've not gotten the song on [first] listen, try listening to the acapella version for a reset. It is a powerful song with an uplifting message and great for working out to.

She was sick and was in the middle of the Butterfly world tour now wasn't she? 1998 was a very busy year for her also.

Thanks for this. You totally get it. I watched this show live on VH1, she sang "My All" first and then "Make it Happen" live and I recorded it at the same time on VHS back then. Lol and you're right there was something so confident and freeing about her demeanor that night, watching her I couldn't help but realize that she was leveling up into icon status. It is also in my overall top 5 performances of her career and that's saying a lot as she's had stellar live performances even after.

Agree Bill with the original where Mariah sounds like the featured artist instead of the lead. However, the remix is way way much better and it could have been the original single. Still listening to it at times.

Ready to land (94,812) by T from USA
I'm most anticipating the next album (whenever it comes) because I think it will be the first album since the old days where she was forced to be inside and just concentrate on music. I'm thinking [Music Box], [Daydream] eras. Maybe Charmbracelet was like that too but not to the extent of a massive lockdown. Hopefully with all this time to get new perspective, plus with the writing of the book she opens herself up to some really special songs. The next album will be dope. Maybe it will be called "Ready To Land".

Now a Mariah album produced by JD, Walter A and Timbaland would be fire. Butterfly 2.

Re: Dreamteam (94,809) (94,810) by We are Lambily from USA
Aside from Mariah he hasn't created more than 5 memorable songs, what's the point of naming all of those people when he produced the worst songs of their careers. I have to laugh. Imagine bragging about that. [Warning: The claims in this post are not supported by facts.]

"Men lie, women lie, numbers don't." You also lie. You make up facts and ignore what others say. Some time ago I posted who Walter has worked with. If you have forgotten that post, here is the list again:
- Barbra Streisand
- Celine Dion
- Destiny's Child
- Michael Bolton
- Kenny G
- Daryl Hall
- Luther Vandross
- New Kids on the Block
- Dusty Springfield
- All-4-One
- Tina Arena
- Gary Barlow
- Babyface
- Paul Anka
- Savage Garden
- Marc Anthony
- Ricky Martin
- Lara Fabian
- Christina Aguilera
- Josh Groban
- Lionel Richie
- Jessica Simpson
- Earth, Wind & Fire
- Leona Lewis
- Brian McKnight
- Idina Menzel
Just name a few artists JD has worked with. You probably won't do that, because you only tell lies and not facts. Maybe I should put a warning under your future posts: "The claims in this post are not supported by facts."

Re: Dreamteam (94,807) (94,808) by We are Lambily from USA
Hector: men lie, women lie, numbers don't. Jermaine Dupri has started so many careers and evolved so many people's career. Walter is forgettable in the land of pop producers, while JD is one of the most successful r&b and hip hop producers. He has created some of the best albums ever. "Jermaine Dupri who is far better producer than Walter." That's subjective. To me, Walter is a better producer than JD.

Dreamteam (94,806) by We are Lambily from USA
The real dream team are back together, Jermaine Dupri who is far better producer than Walter hinted Mariah is working on something fire. "This Mariah record." And Johnta Austin commented as well.

Vision of love (94,805) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yeah, my radio station is playing "Vision of Love" because of MC30. How cool ist that? The radio jockey said she's known as a diva but she can afford it. Oh yes. Today was the day "Vision of love" went to number one. I'll have a drink on it. Cheers.

Love, love, love that song. Great to workout too, makes me feel I can accomplish anything when listening to that track. If it had been Meek and Rick feat Mariah it could have been bigger.

Now, now, William. Give the delulons a chance. Rather than dismiss their claims that Mariah was sick that night, just ask them for the source material which makes evident the truth of this claim. I mean, you might be called a troll and other mean words for dealing in facts and not teenage fangirl tribalism, but it's always a fun experiment.

So, Edouard, where is the evidence that Mariah was "sick" on the night of VH1 Diva's Live?

Re: Divas Live 1998 (94,798) (94,800) by Bill from the UK
Ugh. It really annoys me when people excuse ropey performances with her being sick. She wasn't sick. Just stop. Mariah hasn't been suffering a permanent cold since 1997. The Divas performance was fine, for 1998.

Re: Divas Live 1998 (94,795) (94,799) by Will from Australia
Well Mariah thought "I Don't" was a good thing so let's take her opinion with a pinch of salt. Since they dropped digitally I've listened to MSG bout 12 times and VH1 once, it's not terrible, but it's not MSG.

Re: Divas Live 1998 (94,795) (94,798) by Edouard from France
Make it Happen (Divas Live) is elegant, smart and iconic. Even her little speech at the very beginning is witty. "I'm doing my best to be a diva." Pause, wait for it. "This evening". So smart. Like saying "You think I'm a diva and I can be, but it's all for the show." I always thought it was a great way for her to seem both empowered and humble at the same time. Like I'm not in the same category as Aretha Franklin y'all... yet.

I agree with Terna. Everything he said basically. This version of Make it Happen is the first time I ever heard Mariah back in December '98 on TV. I remember being surprised by her voice like is it the same person who sings with such a clear tone on record? And then I realized that her voice here is just as great. It's live and it's pure gospel. The MSG version is amazing but also very watered down in a way, very pop. The Divas Live version is like a declaration.

I believe it is my very favorite live song from Mariah. The original version of the Emotion album lacks energy IMO. In the Divas Live version, everything about it screams stage presence, faith, love and empowerment. And the whole "I know you're all music industry people but you can get up" part is so commanding without ever sounding put on or arrogant. This is a celebration of her life and career so far. I can't help but wonder: is it the first time we ever got a chance to see Mimi on TV?

Anyway, vocally speaking the singers on this messageboard know what it takes to put on a performance like this. And even with a cold (Mariah was sick that night) her musicality here is pure magic because it is creative. A true artist. Love that woman.
