Re: From the vaults (94,716) (94,721) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Jeez, Louise. You predict and predict with absolutely no rhyme or reason. FFS. What on Earth is the point of all this?

America The Beautiful (94,720) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
I dunno. I'm not the greatest fan of the debut era, so the jewels from the vault are good but not really for me. I decided to watch Mariah's America The Beautiful again to get into the spirit and found I'd watched it over twenty times in a row before I realised how much time I was spending on it. The high note and the change in crowd reaction chokes me up a little bit. It's a good recovery from having the camera focus on the guy with the fat neck for far, far too long.

Re: From the vaults (94,716) (94,719) by cBerr from Canada
I like where you're going with that "want list". My hope is for a few specific items from various eras;

1. Merry Christmas - All Joy To The World mixes, extended or alternate cuts (we all know about those vocal outtakes that leaked). Plus her version of "Where Are You Christmas?"

2. Daydream - The "Crave" song. She's had albums with the Parental Advisory label, so she can drop the act. Also, a BluRay of the undubbed Rotterdam concert. I've seen bootleg footage, there were cameramen all over that stage recording. In a pinch, I'll accept the dubbed Tokyo concert on BluRay. Lol.

3. Butterfly - Full remix bundles for Honey and The Roof (including vinyl only cuts).

4. Glitter - Remixes for "Never Too Far/Hero" plus unused tracks if any - including "Loverboy" (original Firecracker version).

5. Rainbow - All remixes for CTTA (including the Morales Harmonica Dub if it exists), Petals (Pound Boys) and Against All Odds (Pound Boys).

6. Charmbracelet - All remixes for Through The Rain, Bringin' on the Heartbreak and The One (and Boy if she has the time).

7. TEOM - Unreleased tracks plus those remixes for "Fly Like A Bird" especially that R&B remix she teased with Melonie Daniels.

8. MIAM - The dance remixes to #Beautiful.

I know the book comes out on the 29th, but I see these #MC30 celebrations going past that. She has way too many "eras".

folklore (94,718) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
I won't usually make the comparison as Mariah and Taylor are 2 different artists, but I feel like if 1989 was Taylor's Daydream, then "folklore" is her Butterfly. The girl can write. Really well. Which is sadly even more of a rarity these days.

The new album is one of the best projects to be born out of this quarantine. Stripped down and low-key, it's the perfect reset button on Taylor's career, especially to those who reckon that she may have gone too far into pop. It's one of those albums whose songs would tend to blend into each other upon initial listen and would need repeated plays for each of the tracks to flesh out their own stories and differentiate themselves from the others. It's an overall subdued experience where every single song sounds fresh yet familiar at the same time. To those who love their Taylor with the bombast of her last 4 albums, they'll be disappointed with her subtler approach to choruses on this one. It's proof that Taylor's at her best when doesn't need to rely on hype and controversial songwriting to make a huge splash. Call it bland, boring, harmless background music - it's still a welcome change from the mindless teduim of hip-hop beats that dominated the charts for the last 7 months. It's perfect for long drives that call for a batch of songs that can easily be picked as movie soundtracks, or serve as nice silence-filler for reflective moments spent in solitude, or make for a mellow backdrop conducive for work-from-home arrangements. And pre-COVID those may have been considered negatives, but the forced isolation has sure given us a lot of time to collectively appreciate the simpler, quieter moments in life.

What's most impressive about all of this, though, is how despite it being her least promoted release, Taylor remains on brand as possibly the best businesswoman in music since Madonna. Even at her supposedly least calculated, she still is very strategic. There are still generous sprinkles of her usual easter eggs here and there left for her fans to decipher. The video for the first single "cardigan" is one of the more impressive visual productions to come out during this pandemic when pretty much everything else by contrast has been mostly low budget, sporting a very DIY-feel. While most of us would need upbeat, sunny bangers whose contrast from the current overall global situation serves to distract us from this very weird year, Taylor chose to lean into the sadness with relatively somber to even heavy lyrics against light, understated production while keeping any change in tempo to a minimum. The lack of hype then becomes the hype. The lack of huge pop choruses lets people focus on the album's strengths which are the songwriting and delicate production. The lack of a meticulously planned album out rollout and promotion strategy plan in itself becomes the promotion. Even so, Taylor still manages to be her usual detail-oriented self - deliberately sequencing tracks like "the 1", "seven" and "august" as the first, seventh and eighth songs on the tracklist; telling a tale of teenage love broken into three tracks in the beginning, middle and last thirds of the album; managing to throw shade here and there while now being able to comfortably curse in her music, etc. She still goes the extra mile to ensure commercial success (as if having her name on it wasn't enough) by making a bonus track exclusively available through the physical release, which has 8 (yes, eight, because apparently she's Taylor and can be as extra as she can get to celebrate her eighth album) versions for the first week of release featuring different photos and artwork.

Predictable sales success aside, this is also universally lauded as her best and most mature effort to date and is already an obvious contender for AOTY should the Grammys push through next year. Props to her.

30th Anniversary (94,717) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
The roll-out of unreleased material in celebration of this milestone has been quite impressive especially considering the lackluster promotion of most of Mariah's material in the last decade. Loving all the outtakes and previously unreleased material and you can clearly see where she's coming from when she said that there were demo versions which she deems better and wishes should have made the album instead of those that did.

Re: From the vaults (94,711) (94,715) by cBerr from Canada
I think Emotions will be the following week (August 7th). Based on her post of the "All In Your Mind" alternate snippet, she may have one more debut era surprise up her sleeve - fingers crossed.

My hope is that we will get the following Emotions-era releases: remix bundles for "Emotions" and "Make It Happen" and something with rarities based on that mastering sleeve showing that unreleased track "Can You Hear Me".

She can release them all in one week or spread it over two - my iTunes account is loaded with $$ ready to happily hand over either way. Lol.

Re: Super box set (94,712) (94,714) by cBerr from Canada
While I would be extremely interested to see the layout/design of that physical box set; I wouldn't bet money on it. Simply for that reason - money. It wouldn't make economical sense. It's much more cost effective to release things digitally these days.

Which is in and of itself, a downfall due to the quality. While they can call it a "Apple Digital Master" it is in no way on par with any HQ or Lossless format.

Re: From the vaults (94,711) (94,713) by Will from England
Don't want her to rush through this. To think she has so many rough cuts and demos etc. she can take her time going through it all.

Super box set (94,712) by Korey2 from United Stated
Do you think that there's any chance we could get a giant box set with all these MC30 releases? I'd be interested for sure.

Request: Butterfly Classic Bossa Nova in normal tempo (94,709) by Lafa from Sweden
Mariah, I have a request. Release Butterfly (Classic Bossa Nova) in the correct tempo. I think of the smurfs when I hear how it is. This is the only song I've ever caught vocal freedom in. Ever.

Re: From the vaults (94,704) (94,708) by Bobby A from United States
All In Your Mind is just breathtaking. I love that rasp in her voice that MC fixed for the album. Lol. Keep them coming MC. I ain't thinking about Folklore right now.

Re: From the vaults (94,704) (94,707) by Bill from the UK
I was thinking the very same myself. Music Box had great remixes for Dreamlover and AYNAF, and as you say some really rare promo ones. I do have them, but would love to have them all together as one collection. Imagine every remix ever being out there to stream or download at will. Currently I have to dig out my CD singles if I want to hear them in HQ. MC is just so good to us. This celebration is what every fan would want, and even if the items from the vault remain as 30 second clips only, the fact we have heard something recorded in 1989 and buried on a mastering tape is astonishing.

The vault (94,706) by Terna from Nigeria
With the way Mariah keeps unearthing singles, remixes and compilations tucked away in the vault well over 30 years, this could go on for a whole year and we would just be at maybe the "Daydream" era. Lol. This latest AIYM clip got the whole Lambs excited (did you guys see the date it was recorded - 1989). Makes one at the edge of our seats for those hidden gems from the debut era, "Into The Light", "Here we go round again". I wonder what other goodies she has in store for us, sitting here feigning like a new Lambie all over again. Haha. This is so (all caps) cool, and I'm loving every minute of it. What a time to be a Mariah Carey fan.

Almost breath-taking (94,705) by Lafa from Sweden
Almost breath-taking the demo of All In Your Mind. But only almost. The album version is a little heavier.

From the vaults (94,704) by cBerr from Canada
Wow. The alternate interpolations on that "All In Your Mind" clip are nothing short of stunning. More alternates and demos please.

And, with the remix bundles released earlier today, I can only hope that a future #MC30 release includes the entire remix package for "Anytime You Need a Friend".

If anyone from Team MC reads this board - yes, I mean the full package including the UK double vinyl (XPR2054) and the Anytime Edit and Video Edit from CSK6255.

Re: Mariah's memoir (94,620) (94,703) by B from USA
I think Mariah used Gospel and R&B interchangeably in the beginning of her career. Besides R&B is stepped in gospel. She's always cited the Clark Sisters as one of her biggest influences.

Demo version of All in Your Mind (94,702) by B from USA
The demo version of All In Your Mind is better than the album version, and I can't wait to hear the rest of the demo.

All in Your Mind - 2nd take (94,700) by ADAM from USA
My mind is blown to pieces. This is amazing in every way. I am stunned she released this. She really loves her fans so much. You can see from the cover art that she's such a perfectionist. She recorded the song in 2 final takes and released to us the other option. Her tone and run is chill-inducing. I think I agree with MC why she chose the album version as its more polished and grand, however this version gives me goosebumps and needs to be released for the lambs. Who wouldn't purchase the debut album with 2nd takes of all the songs? I love to see her musical process. I'm so happy she's comfortable enough to release these gems to us. We love her in all the ways. For her old tone and agility to her gifts now. When [you're] a real fan, [you're] grateful for "moments" that have happened and that we can all share. No need to measure MC always back to the 90's. We all evolve and age. Thanks to MC. Cannot wait to see what else the vault releases.

Re: All In Your Mind blown (94,695) (94,699) by Bill from the UK
Wow. I don't know what to say. Mariah needs to release everything from this vault, please please please. That alternative take is incredible. How has this been locked away for 30 years?

There’s got to be a way EP (94,697) by Brad from USA
There is also an EP for There's Got To Be A Way. I did not realize this until I read the Billboard article on this site. Mariah didn't seem to tweet or Instagram about this EP. Just wanted to let other folks know too. What a bonanza. Enjoy.
