Re: Through the Rain/Make It Happen (Rise Up NY) (94,095) (94,097) by Aliya from Canada
It is a fact that Mariah's voice is not what it used to be. Everyone knows that and it's something we all have to accept because we can't change the situation. There are a million reasons why Mariah's voice is at its current state. For example, with aging, vocal cords lose flexibility, elasticity and become weaker. Again, there are so many other reasons. But I keep watching her performances, because every one in a while, she surprises me and hits a note that sounds like her in her younger years. That being said, this was a good performance compared to some of her others. And it was creative.

She's winning by a landslide anyway, so let's just add to that.

FFS. I just rewatched it close up. Yes, you are right, it is dubbed. In many places she is evidently not moving her mouth in a way, or breathing at times, possible to coincide with the sound.

For once I don't know what to say. I just feel overwhelming pity.

I appreciated it for what it is, in the context of Mariah's current voice. By recent standards it was good. I am dubious as to whether it was dubbed or not though. It looks like it was pre-recorded and may have been dubbed, with some studio magic added to the parts where she sings fast. However, I don't have enough technical knowledge to make more than an uneducated observation regarding this.

Yeah, her voice has changed. It's most apparent when she's trying to sing like she did in 1994. She can't. Neither can I. It's a massive problem in her case because essentially she's a 1990's singer (yes I know TEOM was in 2005 but nobody thinks of MC and instantly goes to 'Shake it Off'). The songs need to be rearranged to suit her current range. Drop it down a few keys lady. I loved the version of "You and I" she did, and the cover of "Help Me Make It Through the Night" from Tennessee. I think she could still sing these songs and sound incredibel even if she'd just rolled out of bed. I suspect there's an element of "I have a six octave range and imma use it even if I sound like a balloon being let down" related ego getting in the way, which is a shame. But I get the sense there's a bit of grounding going on in Mariah's World right now, so potentially that ego is dwindling a bit?

I did not like it. I am happy she's doing so much singing on social media and in her full voice but it's not pleasant to hear her voice at times. And what scares me most of all, is that if this is her voice at 50, will she be able to do legacy performances like Dionne, Aretha, Patti, Barbra, Diana and Liza at 70? They all sounded pretty good at 50.

You are right if you think that Mariah's voice has degraded further in the last few years. It has been nasal for well over a year or two now and aside from sounding strained it sounds scratched. However, if she can maintain it at where it is at least she can sing songs so I am hopeful for that as, I hate to say it but, any further degradation from this point and there isn't going to be anything left.

All the money in my pocket vs all the money in your pocket that if someone had used the word n***** instead of f***** there would be uproar here. Isn't it funny how it's easy for individuals or groups of people to push their supposed victimhood status whilst brushing over their victimisation of other individuals or groups. That's why you should never taken anybody seriously and shrug your shoulders at indignation. Everyone is mostly a hypocrite.

I wasn't a fan of how she sang TTR, but I did enjoy MIH. I'm glad she participated and decided to help.

I'm always grateful for Mariah's music. I just wish that she would use her voice differently when she makes new music. I rather listen to songs in the lower part of her register than her upper one.

I love Mariah and I love the arrangement. But I cannot help but to agree with you. It's all nasal and extremely throaty. Parts of it are a little cringe. I hate to even say it but what can we do anyway. Just grateful she is singing songs we thought we would never hear again.

I usually love Mariah's vocals. Just not here. To me it's like listening to ms. Fine (if anyone here is old enough to remember that show). It's ok in a concert, with all the noise around it, but it's like she doesn't use her chest or stomach while singing anymore. It sounds like she produces the sound through her nose. Sorry to say it.

Mariah was amazing in this performance. It was so creative and her vocals her impressive. She looked so happy, and it's great she is using her platform for such a great cause. I love her.

Oh for sure. You can totally tell the Cameo version vocals do not work over the Firecracker sample. I don't know though if my opinion would change much. Never been a fan of the Firecracker sample. Didn't care for J-Lo's usage of it either.

Re: More Doja - Mariah fan remixes (94,073) (94,081) by Musti from UK
Yeah I'm not so sure about Doja at this point. Ever since I heard about her using the F word, I'm definitely over her. I don't know what kind of heterosexual entertainer in this day and age would be dumb enough to think using the F word makes them cool or is even in their place, but it surely turned me off all the way. Gay people aren't only practically half of of the music consumers today, but they are also the biggest source of inspiration when it comes to forming an entertainer's image. Doja was disrespectful, and her half-ass apology isn't enough to make amends. I'll believe her sincerity when I see more colour in her output. Really a shame, because I enjoyed her for so long. But I can't put money into the hands of someone who is so ignorant of the power that her current position holds.

TTR/MIH - Andrew (94,079) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
Moments like this are truly Mariah's calling it was heartfelt, and tender. With all the happenings in the world right now our Mariah delivered. In these times it makes you appreciate your blessings, but also makes you think about the trying times, and losses along the way that you are still trying to accept.

Through the rain/Make it happen mash up (94,075) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
She delivered her Charmbracelet fan moment for a great cause. The mash up was a nice surprise, and MC once again delivered. I am glad that she added some fresh, hopefully this will be some inspiration for future moments. Also MC looked so good.

More Doja - Mariah fan remixes (94,073) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
So 8th Grade - Interesting mashup because one song is in the dominant key of the other. It's sort of what organized chaos would sound like.
Shake It Off (Say So Remix) - This is really good.
Say So / You Don't Know What To Do - Not as polished as the Say Somethin' or Shake It Off ones, but is a more predictable choice.
Say It's Like That - Works quite well.
I'm That Chick (Say So Remix) - Another expected song choice.
Say So, Honey - Mariah's parts aren't as prominent as they should be, but they do fit the backdrop.

As much as I enjoy listening to Say So fan reimaginations of Mariah's hits, I just had to stop there.
