Re: New music (91,855)

I'm personally of the opinion that Caution was a brilliant album. If the sales had matched the critical reception, we would have been making comparisons to TEOM and saying things like "comeback". Unfortunately, the album was ignored by Lambs, fans, and the general public.
Now that I have that off my chest, if an album of that quality didn't sell, then a "follow up" album is unlikely to sell either. But... I will buy anything she releases, so if she does it, then do it for the Lambily.

I'm still trying to figure out why some fans feel Mariah doesn't give Walter A and Tommy M credit? The money in their bank accounts say different.

Trust, WAL, some of your posts get on my last gosh darn nerves but I got your back on this. Walter A. does climb out of his cave every Christmas speaking about Mariah. Out of all of these artists he has worked with, he rarely speaks about them. At least no where near as much as he talks about Mariah. When Mariah was having all of those issues during the Glitter era did Walter's bald headed ass reach out and least check on her? When Mariah was getting crucified by the press and folks were saying her career was over where the hell was Walter? I don't recall seeing him defend Mariah or say anything positive about her however I did see Diane Warren, Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis, David Foster, Babyface, Jernaine Dupri, P.Diddy, and others defend Mariah. Out of all these artists, some who are well known song writers themselves that don't publicly give him credit that he has worked with, the main artist he always got to name check is Mariah. Yes, Walter A is a successful song writer/producer but he is also a pompous tool that is still riding on Mariah's tits despite all of the other artists that he has had success with.

And finally... (91,852)

Could there be anything more depressing than being a journalist charged with writing an "article" about a photograph of a celebrity walking down the street? "She has long hair on her shoulders. She's holding a hand of a man. The sidewalk is under her feet. She sings songs while people dance. Like, six people dance when she sings. She is breathing in oxygen. She exhales carbon dioxide. She has the right number of chromosomes to function. She shits once a day."
We should all aspire to be Daily Mail journalists. I am not sure any qualifications are needed other than a basic command of the English language. Or maybe I should take my happy pill today. It's an hour overdue. Lol Merry Crimbo everyone.

Lmao Adam, I love and have always loved you. But "Tommy Motorola" has clinched it. Haha.
Yes it is such the pitiful state of the world that you are demonized for not pledging full allegiance to ignorant ideologues. Anything less is considered "hate" - whatever that means. You are indeed not of good character unless you do the positive preamble; apparently. I used to think just being on this website was enough of a preamble. But it is not. Mariah is imperfect. And her career re-telling smattered with embellishments. That she frequently fails to mention Walter seems to suggest she wrote everything unaided. It is absurd. You only have to see young Mariah singing to him at a piano and saying "Oh yeah, that's good" when he feeds complimentary chords to know it is a false representation. To call him "Walter A" is uncomfortable at best. It's serves mostly to downplay his significance but any nob idiotic fan know how significant he was in her success and the success of many other artists he did not begging and end between Music Box and Butterfly (name one good ballad from Rainbow). She would not be here today were it not for his talent.
I don't doubt Mariah is a huge talent in her own right. She, of course, is truly unique and immense. It's why I love her. I saw it when I was 11 and love how I understood that which other people did not yet come to know. But she airbrushes history as easily as she does her photographs.
I am concerned for the memoir. I think many people will come out of the wordwork to label it false. The best memoirs have people confessing where they failed and acknowledging mistakes. People love vulnerability. I recently watched a video of Mariah almost suggesting Glitter the movie was basically misunderstood and now loved by people. Ludicrous. How can anyone be confident her memoir will not be anything other than another propaganda tool to paint herself in a positive light? It feels like it will be the literary equivalent of her frozen smile. However, she has made massive changes to her personality recently so there is still a glimmer of hope.
Anyway. Merry Christmas. Mariah has had a good one and I wish you the same. It was fun coming back here for the season. But it's still steeped in falsehood and stupidity. And lack of humour.
Happy Holidays.

I have to keep reminding myself you're still in school and have only been a Mariah fan for like a year. All the sensible, measured and reasonable respondents to your wailing are adults who were buying Mariah records before you were born. So it is what it is.
Walter is an incredibly successful and talented producer and songwriter who has had many independent successes, as has been mentioned. And like it or not, Tommy was the one who insisted Mariah make a Christmas album. Her initial response was "stop trying to turn me into Connie Francis" and now she's the much adorned Queen of Christmas, and has made somewhat of a latter day career on that element alone, with Christmas concerts, endorsements, movies, books, and merchandise.
No one is taking anything away from Mariah. We're all fans and acknowledge her talent, but she hasn't achieved what she has single handedly.

I like when she experiments with her music. Yes, do some things that she obviously is known for. But some of my favorite moments on masterpieces, is when she does something unexpected. Even musically, I like when she does different things than just pop/r&b/hip-hop. I liked her inflections of reggae, jazz, even rock. I’d love if she gave us many other genres like opera, Broadway, folk, etc. The reason why I like the album the most of her releases this decade is because of its focus and gems. I want her to kind of loose herself in music so to speak and let the wind (they call Mariah) carry her some place special this time.

She may have all these records now however, there's another record she will about to make after Christmas. That is, the biggest drop from the No.1 spot or totally out of Hot 100... a painful but understandable record though. Nevertheless, the song has made its way already.

New music (91,846)
by Ronnie from California

During the YouTube Q&A, Mariah mentioned having ideas for new music. Do you guys think it is too soon for her to drop another album? Does anyone think she shouldn't release another one?
Given her track record, many of us wouldn't bet on a new album soon. I think Caution was a great addition to her discography and would love a new album. I think a follow up album that continued the story line would make Caution that much more impactful. Currently, it ominously ushers that there is something lurking in the Hollywood smoke but there is no punchline. Sidenote: This makes consider TEOM as a follow up to CB.

YouTube Q&A (91,844)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
The YouTube Q&A was very cool. She was funny and engaging and managed to answer the questions asked her without going off on her usual tangents. The most intriguing part was when she mentioned about a man she has already talked to. Then she said she actually talked to two men. The rational part of of me is thinking, okay, she is working with 2 different producers who she thinks people will be surprised by. The more imaginative part of me is thinking how unexpectedly awesome it would be if the two guys she was actually talking about were Daft Punk.

I totally agree with Poo Bear. I think the next time out they will come up with even better songs, hard to believe but I really do. However, you can't have another "Butterfly" without Walter A unfortunately. He was right, together they do a certain kind of pop song that hasn't been able to be done without the both of them together. Butterfly benefited by that partnership.

I liked the YouTube Q and A. I was surprised that she is in fact already planning new music. I figured it she might not really be into doing another album when the label let the last one die quickly but sending her singles to one or two small radio formats (nothing screams like aging has been that the label doesn’t believe in than adult ac only releases). I was surprised that she shared she had two males in mind that she spoke over the phone with to do collaborations with. I think this new career peak and awesome execution from her new team put some fire under her to try again. I just hope the labels pick the right singles and sends them to all formats, maybe a hot feature with a big artist of the day may be her way of pushing them to do it.

Damn as I said working with all those artists means nothing, numbers don't lie. Mariah has had major success without him, has he had major success without her?
I hate the way you guys defend this non loyal producer. Name one great song he has produced without Mariah, let me check it out. Nobody talks about him. He comes out of his cave every Christmas to claim Mariah's success.
[Webmaster: I give up. I don't stand a chance against this much stupidity. Sorry. Btw: "He won the 1999 Grammy Award in the Record of the Year category for producing My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, and the 2000 Grammy Award for Non-Classical Producer of the Year."]

That's amazing but where is the success though, also I'm talking about after he stopped working with Mariah. Mariah is more successful than everyone on that list.
[Webmaster: Walter worked with all the artists on the list after he and Mariah split. You keep on telling nonsense without checking facts. Are you an idiot?]
Walter and Mariah have written some of my fave Mariah songs, but at the end of the day I know my girl Mariah is 90% behind those songs, like I said a producer's job is easy when you have a talented artist like Mariah.
Also when you have loyalty to a industry mogul like Tommy obviously you are gonna work with major artists. But he lost his chance to work with the greatest artist of all time, next to MJ. Mariah don't [sic] need him as much as he needs her. She got another song of the decade without him.

"If Walter was this amazing producer, he would've had a career still to this day."
Before you talk nonsense (like you usually do), you should check the facts first. Walter Afanasieff is an amazing producer who worked with dozens of artists. Just to name a few: - Barbra Streisand - Celine Dion - Destiny's Child - Michael Bolton - Kenny G - Daryl Hall - Luther Vandross - New Kids on the Block - Dusty Springfield - All-4-One - Tina Arena - Gary Barlow - Babyface - Paul Anka - Savage Garden - Marc Anthony - Ricky Martin - Lara Fabian - Christina Aguilera - Josh Groban - Lionel Richie - Jessica Simpson - Earth, Wind & Fire - Leona Lewis - Brian McKnight - Idina Menzel

Hoping for work on new album in 2020 (91,835)
by Bobby A from United States

I am really hoping that MC begins work on a new album in 2020. She should focus on an album with just two high profile producers from the R&B world and the other from Pop world. Maybe Atlanta high profile producer London On The Track, Ryan Tedder and Dev Hynes can do it. She should collaborate with Jazmine Sullivan, Poo Bear and Sevyn Streeter. They can keep her current creative energy moving in the right direction. Poo Bear is such a great songwriter for a melody with twist. One Mo Gen was brilliant. I would like to see her give us another Butterfly. Another Butterfly album would be the perfect complement to a Caution follow-up.

Can we agree to disagree in regards to Tommy and Walter because honestly speaking had Mariah not get in Tommy’s ear about how she enjoyed her session with Walter while he was an associate producer during the debut album he would not have become her main producing partner from the Emotions album until they fell out during Butterfly. I think that Mariah has given a lot of people enough credit for her success. Now it is time she reap the rewards of her own success. Her she and her team not pushed AIWFCIY the way they have along with the latest installment of MC we probably would not have the success that we have recently had. So I think that Walter and Tommy should get acknowledged to a certain point. On another note, the style music that Walter and Mariah created together is not where she would like to be musically at this point in her legendary career.

Mariah shouldn't call anyone and thank them, Walter gets his check every Christmas, I don't know who said Tommy was the man behind the Christmas album, usually artists have a huge team, anyone of them could've brought that idea to Tommy.
You guys give way too much credit to these men for a woman's work. If Walter was this amazing producer, he would've had a career still to this day. Like Mariah said previously that producers credits was stolen from her at the beginning of her career.

Walter didn't deserve 50% of "AIWFCIY" since Mariah wrote the lyrics by herself, but let's not go crazy here, B. He was instrumental in the creation of the melody/music. Remember he wasn't just sitting there. I think he deserves about 30%. I liked him before he started talking nonsense, saying Mariah made up the word "emblazoned", he should've stuck to playing the piano.

Bieber releasing a new single December 24th could ruin Mariah's chance at being the only artist to have a #1 in 4 separate decades. He usually sells 300k in the first few days. AIWFCIY will do 20k so the only chance we have in our control is streaming. Chart week starts today December 20-26. Don't take anything to chance. Stream like there's no tomorrow.
