I feel like we got old school 90's R&B Mariah but for 2019 with this song. Her vocals are on point, the vibe is cool, the beat is catchy. Well done Mariah. My new jam.

You are so right. What song is the sample? Something with Round and round we go is the song sample.

Happy 30th, Rhythm Nation 1814 (90,865)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Milli Vanilli fiasco aside, 1989 was actually a great year in pop music, Lisa Stansfield debuted, Madonna released Like A Prayer and Janet unleashed one of the most impressive, important and influential albums of all time, Rhythm Nation 1814.
For an 80s album, it has held up pretty well and still slaps today. It's still the only album in history to rack up 7 top 5 hits, over the course of 3 years (another record). I remember listening to it for the first time and fully understanding what all the hype is about right away. It is not good - it's vital pop. Every track slams in its own way, and this marked the beginning of Janet's obsession with including interludes in her albums to make for a seamless listening experience.
Still love Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation, Escapade, Love Will Never Do (Without You) and my ultimate favorite due to how lush it sounds - Come Back To Me, which I feel is closest to a Mariah-esque sounding track melody and production-wise. Classic for sure.

In The Mix (90,864)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

I have always wished Mariah kept Head Over Heels for herself as that song would have fit well on Butterfly and has such a Mariah melody. Well now at least we have In The Mix, which is like a combination of a bit of that, Heartbreaker and Fantasy with more deliberately retro early 90s production. It's good to know she is still capable of delivering the feel good fun, carefree sound and vibe of her lead singles from 1993-2001, albeit at a lesser impact this time, but it's still nice to know she has it in her, as it is a sound that has been missing from her work for over a decade. The harmonies are great, but just like others have pointed out, it would be nicer if we didn't have to search for the lyrics just to decipher what she was singing. The vocal layering isn't the best, but she also hasn't sung with this much gusto in a while, so if anything, this is just a cute little reminder of what she used to do so well.

Love Takes Time in "Pose" (90,863)

So I just watched Episode 8 from the second season of one of the best TV series ever, in my humble opinion: Pose. I literally cried. Glad to see that they included Love Takes Time (almost the full song) in that way. They brought like a new meaning to the song. Just amazing.

TV show theme song (90,861)
by Anonymous from

I really like the song, like many of Mariah's songs, I have struggled to understand what is said at times, but overall it's the connection I experience when hearing them and of course reading the cd inlays always helped. In this instance, I think Mariah smashed it as a tv show theme song. I take it for what it is. The song fits in with the theme of the show, fun, symbolic and it's a vibe that I love, old skool. The fact that she's singing from the top of her lungs and owning her mixed race ass is enough for me. I can honestly say I'm extremely proud of the message Mariah is trying to promote, which in essence is empowering people to feel comfortable and embrace different types of ethnicity, whatever the mixture is. The song is an added bonus to what the tv show is trying to achieve. Mariah, you get a salute from me gurl.

In the Mix (90,860)
by Billy from Greece

|
|
What a great song. I'm hooked. I have it on replay. I love the groove and the fact that her voice sounds the way we recently heard it on the Caution tour, especially the new texture in her whistles. In fact, I think she kind of premiered the whistles from "In the Mix" in one of the "Emotions" performances on the European leg of the tour, can't remember which one. My only concern again is how well this song can be translated live. At the same time, I don't think people realize how intricate and creative are all the counter-melodies and different layers she has in songs such as this one. Obviously she likes this kind of approach, as I do. If only she can find a way to make it work live in a more dynamic way without falling in the trap of trying to simultaneously sing all the different blending parts. Either way, "In the Mix" is a total winner for me. Love it.

I agree with other posters. I'm having a very hard time understanding what she is singing. I am glad to see that she is branching out a bit by doing new things (creating the theme song for a TV show), but I don't think I'll be adding this song to my playlist.

The first time I listened to it honestly, I loved it. I agree with those who said that the sound is like the 90s or Glitter era for that was my first thought too. However, as I put it on repeat and got to hear it for several times already, it sounds more like OOC from E=MC2. And yes, it is hard to understand the words she's singing. Thus, I don't love it anymore but still like it. There's that very good vibe in it and the uptempo that we also want from her. As a theme song and not an album cut I have to say it is a really good song with a very positive message. Is it radio friendly? Not really sure. A potential hit? Maybe or maybe not. Just MHO.

I love the song because it reminds me of 90's Mariah. It was clear she wanted something cool. I also like the beat, but I have to agree with the fact that Mariah's enunciation has been on the decline for some time now. Mariah was a good as Whitney on that department, but she's playing more on Ariana's territory when it comes to that these days. Her voice is not in shape or something to brag about on the track either, but I do love the song. One thing though, knowing the perfectionist that she could be, if this is the way her voice sounds in the studio these days, she might not have much left, but the whistles.

I love it by the first listen. Didn't expect that. What a funky song. Reminds me a bit of "Fantasy" and "Glitter". It has the happy sounding I was missing since a while. What a nice surprise from Mariah.

I agree with her not being featured so much in the video. People will probably still hate it because she has something to do with it, but at least the main focus was the show.

Well, it's no Can't Let Go, but it's no Crapfinity either. Song is fresh, vibrant and fun, though her voice sounded very odd in the first verse to me. And no offence to Roc and Roe, but their "yeehhhh" was way out of tune. Time will tell if they inherited their mother's musical genes I guess. But I'm thankful this didn't end up on the trash heap with the aforementioned Crapfinity, and its ugly siblings Why You Mad, Infamous, The Star, Can't Say No, Did I Do That, and Boy.

I'm glad you all like it. I don't, unfortunately. No pun intended. I think the track/sample is boring and I've hated the way her full voice sounds stretched and raspy since MIAMTEC and I agreed with someone on here who said that I can't understand the lyrics of the hook.

The Enunciation of Mimi (90,851)
by Will from Australia

I'm finding it harder and harder to understand what exactly Mariah is saying in her songs these days, like with In The Mix I had to see the lyrics to know.
It's been like this for a while now, since maybe the MOAIA era and I'm surprised because she's known as such a perfectionist in the studio.
Most of her back catalogue before that I got instantly the majority of what was said (and no I don't need no q tips from Nicki Minaj).
I wonder if this is contributing to her declining popularity among non lambs, they just don't know she's singing.

This song has theme song written all over it, and rightfully so. Lol, but in a good way so that it doesn't come across as cheesy or cliche. I like it. Total 80's bop. I guess "Mixed-ish" is set in the 80's. Mariah sounds good.

Listened to it a few times, nice bop and I like it just because it's new music from Mariah.
Not really going to take off though I don't think, just missing that addictive hooks like her other uptempo songs such as Dreamlover, Fantasy, Heartbreaker, It's Like That and Touch My Body have.
I'm actually really glad she features very little in the video as I think people who don't like her will not hate on it as much.
Is it Christmas yet?
