Webmaster E, I don't want to seem overly sensitive, but Andrew's comment about trans women in the "Old Town Road" post is really offensive and sets a bad precedent. I hope you will consider removing it. Trans bashing is dangerous. Respectfully, Jeff.

Old Town Road (90,242)

Anyone who thinks this song is deserving of such a title as longest running US number one is two sandwiches short of a picnic. It is absolutely dreadful.
"Can't nobody tell me nuttin'"?
Yes, they can. I can. Your song is shit.
Mariah's song is a timeless music masterpiece. Yours is ear cancer. Take your horse and F off.
In any regard, I think it's about time someone broke the record of 16 weeks. It is bound to happen and the sooner the better now as the burden will be removed. To say Mariah had the longest running US number 1 for 22 or however many years is actually a great way to say "Hey streaming boys, the number might be as high. But it's really not the same." It's a bit like a trans woman competing in a female race. You may have won.
But you didn't really.

Just To Hold You Once Again vs My All (90,241)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Lately I've been listening to Music Box on my commute. I go through phases where I will binge one album everyday for two months lol. Anyway, listening to the underrated Just To Hold You Once Again, I do wonder if there is a link between that song and My All. The line on JTHYOA's chorus "I would give my all to have you here" could be later referenced in the Butterfly classic's chorus. I wonder if this is the same experience she is writing and singing about? Things like this are what the memoirs need to address.

Yeah. I though about Mariah's comment about Madonna too. The difference with that was Mariah was responding in retaliation I guess, since Madonna was first to throw a punch by saying: Mariah is so stupid, she would rather die than be her. Katy's shade was pretty much unprovoked.

Robert-Anthony, I like the idea. I remember when Kelly Rowland performed "Fantasy". Mariah looked like she was treating it like a holiday and having a blast. Webmaster E, would you mind adding this link.

Twitter game (90,234)
by Will from England

Can we just take a moment to appreciate and celebrate Mariah's recent Twitter/social media game? Whether it's herself or someone else, her tweets have been on point, funny and tongue in cheek. The latest of her competing in the bottletop challenge is brilliant and so funny to watch, and I'm living for this mini series she has on her Instagram account. Even though she has moved on from Caution and onto a new project, her team are keeping her active on SM in different ways and it's so good to see.

I just heard a new Katy Perry Song "Never really over" song on the radio. Now my ears are hurting. Seriously what an annoying song. That has nothing to do with music. Pop at its worst. She never had a voice but some early songs were ok and fun because of the production, but nothing that will stay and you want to hear for a longer time.

Sadly OTR is guaranteed to take the record. It's already guaranteed to spend 14 to 15 weeks at number one at this point, and unless something blows up next week, then its over. And even then, OTR's lead is too big right now to be taken down and other songs aren't gaining enough points.
This new chart where streaming dominates the formula is making it normal for songs to spend 12 to 15 weeks at number one. Maybe something will show up next week, but I doubt it.

Her comment about Mariah has returned to bite her own ass. Some of these artists believe their own hype when they have a few hit songs/albums and start feeling invincible, then reality sets in when people can't remember one of their songs. Mariah made that comment about when Madonna used to be popular and hopefully she learned her lesson. Mariah might not be as popular, but unlike Katy, she has an impressive calalog and legacy.

I don't think Whitney is singing Without You in this song. She is performing another song but hitting the same notes so they have mashed it together. I could be wrong but it sounds amazing.

Caution as single (90,228)
by AnKo from Germany
| |

I would love the title song to become a single. It is the song I love the most of the record. Once you've listened to it a few times you can't get it off your mind. Maybe there will be a sort of "Proceed with Caution" second remix album this year and Caution will be the first single off it. Who knows?

13 weeks (90,227)
by Musti from UK

Do we have a new contender? Old Town Road has been leading Billboard 100 for 13 weeks. If it ties OSD at 16 weeks I wouldn't be bothered. At least it's a much better song than Despacito. But I hope it doesn't go over 16 weeks.

Katy Perry shading Mariah in 2014 (90,225)
by John from USA
| |
|
|
Looks like Katy Perry's single N.R.O. has stalled on the BB Hot 100 charts and will not even be a top 10 hit for her. This era is shaping up to be another flop for her after 2017's floptastic Witness CD.
I wonder how she feels now - just four albums later (not including her Christian album as Katy Hudson before she shed her good Christian girl image) - that she does not appear to have any longevity in music after all.
So interesting that she once referred to Mariah as "Well, she's fabulous for a throwback. Fabulous."
Too bad Katy Perry (and her catalogue of forgettable non-classic music) aren't even fabulous for a throwback.

Mariah tribute album (90,224)
by Bobby A from United States
| |

A Mariah Carey tribute is long overdue. Just like Luther's tribute album, I would love to see Brandy, Boys II Men, Fantasia, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Trey Songz, Usher, Chris Brown, Ledisi, Adele, Justin Beiber, Ed Sherran, Angie Stone, Shawn Mendes, Sam Smith and Jill Scott all make a MC ballad their own at their vocal ability. I would love to hear Angie Stone's take on Mine Again and Adele's version Cry. Brandy and Boys II Men would bring tears to my eyes on One Sweet Day. Sam Smith would tear up Love Takes Time. Fantasia would bring it on We Belong Together. Where is JD to make this happen for a Fall release?
