Chin wave (103,934)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I don't know what it means, but it's clearly a "Mariah thing". You can see it in the video of "Joy to the world" for example. Maybe others know more.

Chin wave (103,932)

Can anyone tell me if there is any hidden meaning behind Mariah's "chin wave". I don't think it's a new thing but I have seen about 5 random videos recently in which Mariah puts the back of her hand underneath her chin and waves her fingers. I feel like I've seen it lots but have only just thought about how strange it seems. It's almost like it is a code for those in the know and I'm clearly not in the know.

AIWFCIY has debuted at number #70 on the Hot 100. How long will it take this year to make it to #1? I predict it will be #1 two weeks after Thanksgiving. It hit #1 on December 17th last year through December 31st and January 1st-8th for 5 weeks in 2022.

I'm on YouTube waiting for the premiere of the new It's Time video. There's some sci-fi orchestral music playing with graphics and even this is cool. Coupled with the anticipation may end up being cooler than the actual video.

I love the Homecoming special. So much fun to watch. She was so confident, fun and at the same time all the star power was showing. Pure Mariah. I also love the short interviews she did. I just love the 90ies. Lucky high school kids, I was so envious back then.

What are some of you talking about that MC pays dust to Daydream? Fantasy, ABMB and Hero are Mariah's most over played song on radio. Fantasy is my personal life anthem, but you can't turn on the radio without one of those three songs playing, that's why no one needs to stream them, they are over played in the main stream. It's like Papa Don't Preach by Madge and Toxic by Britney, why would you stream them when they are constantly playing in every grocery store and drug store? Touch My Body and Obsessed are also creeping up in the over played roster. Mariah has so many master pieces, I wish the mainstream would diversify her music on radio and other public forums.

I still say Daydream was the most perfect album title that Mariah has named. On the outside "looking in" she was on top of the world with money, fame, prestige, the looks and the voice. Yet behind the scenes with the all the mess that was going on and falling apart in her personal life, all the external "happiness" truly was just a daydream.

I often wondered why she seemed to completely pay Daydream dust once the touring was over. I arrived to the conclusion that Butterfly was actually borne out of the ashes of the Never-Were-Grammy's for Daydream.
That is to say: I believe the conversation, or the statement she gave Tommy and Columbia Records was something along the lines of the following:
"I made the perfect pop/R&B crossover album, with Daydream, I practically ruled Billboard for a year with it, got three No.1 singles out of it, put Old Dirty Bastard at No.1 on a pop record, revolutionized the Middle8 rapper segment - and what did the industry do to me?
It put me on a television camera for three hours whilst they kept giving me the middle finger and I had to sit there and take it. Well I'm done with them. I'm not doing another Daydream: I'm doing something completely new."
And in that the concept of Butterfly was born and Daydream was buried for a decade or so.

I think Daydream gave her PTSD. It's a perfect pop album, and Fantasy one of the greatest pop songs ever conceived. But it's a massive success followed by industry shaming at the Scammy's. I've been wondering if that one's an inside job, specifically the pop album of the year category.

I'm thinking more of like a re-imagined versions, or cover of her own songs, again like the Fantasy ballad, or if BER was her own idea. I agree that straight rerecording won't work for obvious reasons, but re-imaging her songs in creative ways seem to rub off really well on rediscovering her catalog.

I think the absolute last thing Mariah should be doing is re-recording perfect 90s songs with 2023 vocals. I'm still in recovery from hearing that dreadful re-recording of Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) from the Christmas special.

It could be that during the Daydream era, all her issues with Tommy hit their climax. Maybe one reason why MC doesn't talk about Daydream much is not wanting to remember how she felt during that era. Ether way, I love Daydream. I'm glad she recorded the album.

Same. Daydream has so many faves and one of my top 3 Favorites of hers: Looking In. I recently read a few tweets where people expressed preferring songs like Thirsty, A No No, Caution, and the such over songs like Fantasy, ABMB, The Roof, and WBT. I know it's all subjective, but those fans confuse me. Daydream is such a vibe and songs like UTS, IAF, and MA deserve so much more general recognition.

You're right, she seemed often unhappy/unsecure during that time. "Looking in" says it all. But she also had a magic aura which I loved. The concert in NY was phenomenal. Anyway the pressure of being on top of the music throne, the envy of many while she broke record after record with the sales and number ones. The controlling Tommy. Maybe there are a lot of bad memories, I'm sure this is one reason Daydream is not so praised by herself. I became a fan because of Daydream, so I will love it forever.

Just maybe Daydream was the start of Walter A's betrayal that causes MC to want to forget about it the era. Tommy probably said no to a lot of the songs that strayed away from the MC and Walter A hit formula. He probably hated the fact that the young woman he discovered was challenging his vision for her career. And let's not forget about how much he hated the idea of OBD working with MC. Daydream probably reminds MC of some uncomfortable feelings during that era. Many interviews during the Daydream show MC looking very uncomfortable and nervous. Tommy's reigns were causing MC some emotional insecurities. Check them out on YouTube.
