Re: What's on your MC rotation these days? (100,564) (100,570)

The "Emotions" album has been in heavy rotation for me recently. There's something very unique about it in the context of Mariah's catalogue. She took full creative control for the first time, but it was before the marriage to Tommy left her jaded and cynical. She was pursuing her vision, but that pursuit was not necessarily about "rebelling" in the way that it was in the late 1990s. I love the blending of gospel ("Make it Happen"), disco ("Emotions"), old school soul ("If It's Over"), house ("You're So Cold"), and jazz ("The Wind"). There isn't a weak track on the entire album, and it's borderline tied for first place with "Butterfly" as my favorite Mariah album.

I have been listening to Emotions and MTV Unplugged. Just flawless vocals throughout both albums.

I've been playing Vanishing nonstop on my way to work. Those vocals, her enunciation, pure perfection. So sad those type vocals lasted about 8 years, but I'm glad I can always revisit them.

I've been in a Daydream mood lately. Blasting the album and YouTubing all the performances and interviews from around that time and reliving the London date for the tour (which I attended in case I've never mentioned it before). I've found a whole new level of appreciation for Open Arms. Her rendition is just sublime. I got out my CD singles and have been playing them all (a few mixes not on the MC30 EPs appear on them). I love those beautiful One Sweet Day remixes. The gorgeous a capellas and Chucky's Remix are splendid, and the Drifting Remix of Underneath the Stars is next level.

Slow news week anytime we're talking about Packer's ring. And although I could say [...] off to Terna for saying I only come on here to be negative, he's part of this dysfunctional family of ours. His job is to balance the equation. My job is to unbalance it. Anyway as MC fans you know that based on your life, the songs you play most by her changes with the seasons. What songs are you guys obsessed with these days, pun intended? My songs in heavy rotation are: Languishing, My All, Right to Dream, Close My Eyes and Through the Rain.

Thanks for the clarification my friend. So The One and Your Girl EPs are the normal ones that were released during the MC30 campaign it seems. As for IWTKWLI, this site's discography (invaluable resource) has a 14 track CD listed which is probably what is available on that website. If you're going to purchase digital music, let me recommend Qobuz. It's a streaming service but has a huge collection of hi-resolution or CD quality tracks to purchase, often with digital booklets. All Mariah's stuff is on there.

Sorry Bill, I did it again typing Yours instead of Your Girl. I meant Your Girl. On the website for FYE's Mix and Burn there is a Your Girl EP available with 2 tracks remixed by The Diplomats featuring Camaron and Juelz Santana. On the same website, there a 4 track The One EP with one 10 minute track not available. It's looks like during these two years of MC30, they added a 14 track EP of IWTKWLI. Check out their website. I buy EPs from them all of the time if the physical release is not available. I have been holding off purchasing MC's EPs and Remixes until later this year. It is good that they have added some new ones this year. Nevermind the dates they list for the EPs because FYE for some reason will upload the date of the original album release or the date when the label makes the music available for digital sale. Are these EPs with the same tracks available on iTunes and Spotify?

Hi Bobby A, what do you mean about the remixes? MC released an EP for The One, although it didn't include all the remixes (same can be said for all the MC30 EPs really, I wish she had consulted me first like). IWTKWLI has an existing EP on streaming (3 tracks) that was issued at the time of its original release in 2009. As for Yours, to the best of my knowledge no remixes exist, other than the fabled duet with Justin Timberlake version.

Did MC sneak and release remixes of The One, Yours, and IWTKWLS this year as apart of MC30 and not mention it? I think that I may have stumbled upon something today. I want to make sure that it is nothing new to the rest of you.
Anyway, I am ready for MC to go ahead to release a mega vinyl boxset of remixes and rare tracks. It is time now. Waiting until MC40 will not diminish her future catalogue earnings.

Why the heck are we lamenting about an erratic speech (which should definitely not be compared with AIWFCIY's playful tone, totally different) when her tribute was underwhelming and she should have had a higher caliber of artists paying respects.
Sure, she had years to work out her speech, but maybe she was caught up in the festivities and splashes. Y'all are reaching.
Congrats, Mariah. While the 90's may have perceived you as a formulaic writer, it's developed a blueprint for generations. You deserved this.

Exactly Bill. I'm proud to be a goat, old school fan. Bring on the names, the negative names I just "shake it off", lol. The Billboard Icon speech was brilliant. She focused on her music, how writing songs saved her and you could really see how humbled she was to think her music saved so many others. I wished her SHOF speech expanded on the Billboard speech. Such a well deserved honor, a special night, and she's more concerned about lighting?

Bill I am with you, and what we are saying is not being negative. As a matter of fact I am the least negative person. I have been teased for years by people for seeing good even if there isn't.
I believe feedback is a gift. A part of me had hoped Mariah with all the time she had before the big day she would have crafted a powerful speech (no gimmicks). She has always wanted to cement her place as a respected songwriter. This was her big moment and also a big moment for everyone globally who have rallied behind her.

I don't think anybody is advocating for a return of the acceptance speeches of old when she thanked God, Tommy, and walked off the stage. Post-Tommy Mariah is capable of some amazing speeches. None of the "Day Ones" as you call them would criticise the Billboard "for the fans" speech, that was brilliant. Probably the best she ever did. That award meant so much to her. Mariah is one of only 33 women to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and she has long fought to be recognised for her excellent songwriting (Crapfinity aside of course). We're not asking for a mumbled God and Tommy 1991 speech, but a well structured, rehearsed, planned out speech that would commemorate such a momentous occasion in her career. Not rambling about bad lighting, spitting on JD, and barely being able to string a sentence together and, by her own admission during the speech, going off on tangents.

I disagree, Mariah has always been eccentric, us day oners remember her playing around in videos such as AYNAF remix vid. Even the AIWFCIY video she's playing around. I don't accept that she was merely acting back then. Yes maybe some of her at home moments on her home videos might have been staged but she was still together and down to earth, and when she played around it was in context to the moment and you didn't think "What is she doing?" Tommy could dress her how he wanted but you can't hide your natural personality for that long.
She had grace, composure and a coolness that you simply can't act out. I don't think it's a case of us day oners disrespecting her now, we are still fans and wouldn't be on this forum if we weren't, we can just see a huge change in her and simply don't think it's for the better. Do I dislike her now? No not at all. But I just think the composed Mariah who I knew was a better version of herself, who the public liked and someone who people could relate to. I accept people change, I've changed myself gradually over the years but I've not had a complete personality change.
Mariah still has that wow factor and a huge legacy behind her, I just think with the right people, the right look and if she dropped the diva/erratic behaviour act people could warm to her again and even if she never wrote or sang another song again she'd bow out gracefully and with dignity or if she chose to write and sing quality music she could gain new respect. Old lambs and newer lambs have a common connection we all want what's best for Mariah, and why wouldn't we. I just think us oldies find it difficult watching YouTube, one minute you're watching CLG then ID comes on and she's in a car in lace underwear and you're thinking what the hell happened?

"Boy (I Need You) (Remix)" (100,552)
by Billy from Greece

I know "Boy" is probably one of the least favorite songs on Mariah's catalog. I never had an issue with it, especially within the context of "Charmbracelet", but the official remix (found on the single) is actually way hotter. No re-sung vocals, but the beat and slight restructuring of the song take it a step further. I highly recommend it.

Thank you for this. I think some of the old school lambs on here have the tendency to catastrophize everything MC does that's a little unorthodox or eccentric. All the comments I've seen from the general public were giving MC her flowers and saying "well deserved". Some of us are just super hard on her nowadays, while everyone else seems to accept her as is.... human, endearing, and never use any faux pas to discredit her legacy.
I understand the "day ones" have a different relationship with MC and many of the harsh criticism comes from a place of remembering yester-year when she was so prim and perfect acting all the time, but at this point we should all know Mariah is a boring one dimensional diva. She has a lot of personality, wit, and she lives for a moment. Let her have it, she's paid her dues and cemented her legacy. Can't anybody take that away from her.

Even the biggest Queen B fans I know are talking about how meh this new song is. Maybe if Whitney sang it? If only Whitney sang it. Where's the voice? Imagine if Mariah released this as a lead single? Gasp, many on this forum would be sleeping. Look at the song credits: Bey is stacked with influence for what's been years in the making. Bey will slay because the fans have been trained.
