Please don't mention her name in this happy moment in Mariah's life. Why won't she get credited?

Mariah Carey at the BBC (100,116)
by Lee from UK
| |

Mariah at the BBC was a little treat on BBC 2 tonight. This opened with a live version of Vision of Love that I hadn't seen before which was lovely. Lots of older performances cleaned up and looking crisp. It also contained some of Mariah's worst lipped performances but it is what it is.

Seems like Mariah will never get a credit on the Big Energy song. I would wish RCA would fight harder for her. She deserves it.

It's always bothered me Mariah didn't get that 20th #1 because Can't Let Go wasn't allowed to achieve such a great. It totally would have had Tomato not interferred, and we would potentially be talking about 21 #1 singles. I hope MC gets that 20th #1. That on top of being named Billboard's top chart artist would be icing on top of an already yummy cake.

Yes, I dream of that too, it would be so fun, and it would make headlines all over the world, that she has broken The Beatles' record. I remember when she got that 18 #1, even my dad and brother seemed surprised and finally realized that Mariah is a legendary artist. Anyway, even though "Big Energy" might only stay in the top 10, it's her biggest success since #Beautiful, and that is a while ago, even though it seems like yesterday.
Played the song for my mom earlier today, and even though I might have traumatized her with my constant loud playing of Mariah's music, even she liked the remix and said "Who can forget that Mariah song?" when talking about Fantasy. My mother has always followed Mariah in the news and stuff, so she's always up to par about what is going on in Mariah's life, because she feels like Mariah is almost a friend of mine.

Many fans would have laughed at the idea of Mariah having a current shot at a 20th #1. Now she's so close. I remember when she hit 18 the stans would always say 19th #1 for every single released afterwards only to have their dreams crushed. Then the more jaded fans would start making fun of them and calling them delusional. I hope I start seeing 20th #1 again to future singles. One can dream right. Every once and a while, dreams come true - lol.

Something tells me as I shop for vinyl records today in Atlanta that MC's store is going to be filled with some goodies this fall. I am hopeful for Glitter, Somebody's Ugly Daughter, The Rarities 2 and The Butterfly Lounge all available on vinyl this September.

I'm compelled to read these. I certainly feel like [I'm] learning context I wasn't aware of. I just don't know how to take the use of his individual grieving of his father's passing. Somehow the judgment of [One Sweet Day] and [Hero] tied into them not being helpful in his mourning.

That award show is on its way out, something I predicted a while back, this year was a conscious effort to [boycott] it as you already indicated, there were not seasoned artists in attendance. The "Mariah Carey" award is gonna replace the "Grannies". Lol. [Because] lets face it, Mariah Carey is (all caps) the music industry. She's that [girl].

It's nice to see current artists pay tribute to Mariah because I still don't think that she gets the recognition that she deserves, I mean, more now than ever before, but I feel that someone with 19 #1s and all kinds of other accolades/set records, she's just not as respected as you would think for this point in her career.

You're totally right about a desert full of newbies at the Grammy awards. At the same time, though, I thought it was a combination of clever and cute that two artists I know nothing about and care even less about found Mariah and Whitney's super corny skit interesting enough to emulate. Back in the day I thought that was a pointless demonstration of Mariah Carey's lack of acting shops in addition to a rare lapse in comedic insight on her part. I find it interesting, though, that something I believed was best forgotten actually represents a "cultural moment" to commercial machine artists today.

Yes, but she didn't even get at #1 back then, not until AIWFCIY went to #1 a few years ago.
I was too young in '94, and really can't remember listening to Mariah, started noticing her when she released Butterfly.
But fully enjoyed the Emancipation era, even though also then, her success in Norway was limited.

I can't say Mariah didn't warn us. She said the Grammy's were boring and hasn't attended since she was forced to accept her Grammy wins backstage after the show.

Yes, Mariah could get credited next week, because the remix is new. Also, the remix is more radio friendly. The original has a lot of explicit lyrics even though a clean version exists, people know mostly the explicit version. So hopefully that helps the remix.

I just wrote in the previous message that Mariah never gets played in Norway, but I at lest just heard Latto's "Big Energy" get used in this celebrity cocking reality show that;s on a Norwegian channel right now. Maybe people will get interested in the remix too if they liked it.

Next week numbers may yield a different result. The rule says that a remix must perform better than the original in order to chart. Pop radio stations added it to their playlists this week. It is so good to hear MC on the radio with a new song.

So sad to not see Mariah's name at #3 on Billboard Hot 100, no statistics for Mariah. At least, we the fans, know that this chart position is thanks to Mariah, and that is somewhat a relief.
