Re: Question (99,913) (99,915) by Randy from USA
And a lot of people consider Chaka Khan's I Feel For You the first rap/sung collaboration. In the 1980s. Now what made Fantasy so groundbreaking was that MC was a pop diva that added a gutter rapper. So it was too extremes versus a Mary J or a Chaka Khan collabo which would have been an R&B plus rapper combination.

Re: Question (99,912) (99,913) by The Real Deal from USA
Actually, Mary J. did it in 1992 with a bunch of remixes from What's The 411, including Notorious BIG very first appearance on a single with "Real Love". Then in 1994, Madonna did it with a song called "I'd Rather Be Your Lover", initially featuring Tupac but then scratched and put on her "Bedtime Stories" album with Me'Shell NdegeOcello instead. So that part about Mariah being the first to add hip hop artists into a song duet genre always confused me.

Re: Question (99,911) (99,912) by Bill from the UK
I don't believe she was the very first, but she was definitely the first artist with a large following and the first "mainstream" artist to adopt this style with the Fantasy remix. Since then, as we know, every Tom Dick and Harry has had a guest rapper on their singles.

Question (99,911) by Bobby A from United States
Would there be no combining of Hip Hop and R&B without MC? I believe that MC doesn't get enough credit for starting this sub genre. She did it before Mary J. Blige, Sean Combs and Stevie J.

I still don't believe those allegations. Certain types of people will say anything. I unfortunately have known a lot of sex workers and you can't believe most things that come out of their mouths. They have no moral compass.

I feel the same way, Bill. The ISB remixes are one of MC best resung remixes. I know no other singer whose chooses the best samples for her remixes. I understand why MC was so livid about the Firecracker sample.

Article: Mariah Carey's brother: 5 fast facts you need to know (99,904) by David Baker from United States
Shawn McDonald - who posted the first comment - neglects to mention that he is Mariah's nephew, and that she reportedly paid for his law school tuition. His mother is Mariah's sister, Alison, who still struggles with the trauma of horrific sexual and psychological abuse inflicted on her by her mother when she was a child. In 2015 Alison was attacked in her own home, leaving her with a traumatic brain injury. In 2021, doctors gave her a 50 percent chance of surviving emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer. She has no teeth after her dentures were broken in a fall; Medicaid won't replace them until 2026. But none of that bothers her eldest son, who he has dismissed as his "mother in name only". I met Alison in 2015 while she was in a hospital recovering from surgery to stop bleeding in her brain resulting from the attack. I run a blog about this fractured family. It's at: the carey file (dot) blogspot (dot) com.

Re: These 3 remixes (99,899) (99,902) by Bill from the UK
I was listening to the I Still Believe MC30 EP on a long train ride the other day. I must say, Mariah really went to town with the remixes. The Pure Imagination and Stevie J mixes were completely re-sung and the only thing they had in common with the original was the title. The incorporation of the Willy Wonka song was genius. Then of course the Morales club mix is euphoric and upbeat, with a few new ad libs and alternate takes of lines from the album version. And then as you mention Bobby A, there's the King's Mix and the Eve of Souls mix which were just anthems. All included new vocals and mix was different from the one before. Just superb. And of course, the original is understated and beautiful in its own right.

What a tremendous and well-deserved honor. I'm glad she's finally going to be able to accept in person. What do you think is her most well-written (not sung) song?

No one ever talks about how brilliant these 3 remixes are. They were strictly made for the dancefloor and some good speakers.

1. I Still Believe - The King's Mix
2. DFAU - Quentin Harris Vocal Mix
3. ABMB - Always Club

Hey RibbonB, some of us like and miss Stella. And some of us also still like "The art of letting go". "I'm making a statement of my own opinion."

25 years later and this song still rocks. I love everything about the "Butterfly" era. Mariah's voice, looks and ensembles were everything. "Baby doll" is my second favorite song from the album. And then there's the epic and amazing "The beautiful ones" with Prince.
