WBT Mimi's Late Night Valentine's Mix (extended) (97,381) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
Best re-working of a track she's done in over a decade, since the leaked H.A.T.E.U. remix that incorporated My Boo.

CB was my first MC concert. She came through So Cal once but I wasn't able to go. Then she announced more tour dates and I grabbed a ticket for the final concert of the tour right before Christmas. 15 rows back, dead center. It was so cool. She sounded amazing. I'll never forget it.

I regard this song as one of her best. Love this stripped version.

I totally 100% agree. Charmbracelet was the first tour I was able to see Mariah perform live during and the live vocals made all the CB songs sound so much better. I believe it was during a time when there were reports that Mariah recorded them in the whisper register to make it easier to perform them live and boy did she succeed. The live versions were so much better. My dream to this day is to hear Through The Rain recorded in full voice. Either way it's so beautiful but I'd love a real recording of it in full vocals.

Side note though, the Valentine's special of WBT and her look was so beyond amazing. The whole thing worked and was so organic and just "different" for Mariah. It's almost like she is setting us up for something. The dark hair, the all black. I loved everything. Her arrangement of the song with the vocals were so fresh and once again I wouldn't be surprised if other artists follow in her footsteps and revisit their past hits and re-do them so to speak. Is it me or did she look so relaxed youthful with her moves and singing style. I loved it. Everything about it. I also loved the snippet on her cookie promo of "My Funny Valentine". I will forever be an advocate for an all Jazz MC album. I really wish she would consider doing one.

Good you enjoyed it. Hold on a second, though: it is lipped the whole way through. Do we really get excited because pre-recorded, engineered vocals sound good? Sets the bar quite low, perhaps.

It's the best performance she has done in a long, long time. I'm blown away. Wow, quarantine really did help repair her voice. It's incredible, and I love to see that confidence in her. I'm going to show this performance to literally everyone I know.

Re: Raindream? (97,362) (97,373) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
She done already done had herses. Gurl, this show is brilliant, m'kay. This is making lockdown funny and fun. I'm currently caught up with RuPaul's Drag Race US and UK so I'm bingeing the latest Allstars and there's a queen called Mariah who literally as I'm watching on Netflix just got voted off as I'm typing this.

It is quite really bizarre watching someone called Mariah that isn't Mariah Carey. It's as bizarre as a drag queen or anybody calling themselves Madonna or Cher. Mariah is a one word, one person name. That being said I thought Mariah Paris Balenciaga was pretty shite and Shea Coulee has to win. But whatever happens, the Cracker needs to go.

Wow, I'm in completely awe of Mariah, that performance is one of my faves. I literally can't stop replaying it. The arrangement, the vocals, the agility, the groovy and jazzy feeling, this type of setting does wonder to her voice. The fact that she did the first verse better than 05 too and the second verse didn't get enough praise for me. I hope we get more of these moments. Don't know if you have heard of the tiny desk home concert "Start with Jazmine Sullivan" it would be perfect for Mariah. Mariah is without no doubt the most talented artist ever. Her confidence is growing and she is getting comfortable with her voice again. This new era will be everything.

I enjoyed the whole performance and ensemble. Did you see her confident dance moves and nods to the band members? We are in for new era soon. Oh, well maybe next year. Lol. Hopefully Angels Advocate is coming this month for MC30.

Exactly, it's giving me this vintage 70's soul sound like she did at the BET awards performance with the white dress, but taking it up a notch, incorporating contemporary elements like that drum machine that goes hard on the chugging breakdown mid song. Just well put together and executed. Someone on twitter was like "her new era is coming". Lol.

I totally agree. "Bringin' on the heartbreak" was amazing live. I love how they made it so much longer. That tour was my favourite from hers.

"The whole package screamed artist. In a way that she hasn't done in a long long time." Absolutely agree. It is really a nice, positive surprise. The look and the WBT version with the band makes "appetite" for more.

Re: Raindream? (97,359) (97,363) by T from USA
This should be Mariah's image for the next album/era. Her hair was perfect, the best color in years. Her outfit was serious yet contemporary. The whole package screamed artist. In a way that she hasn't done in a long long time. He voice was great. The mood was there, the attitude was there, it seemed like the Mimi if she would've continued with The Emancipation Of Mimi era all this time or even the Mariah from just after MTV's unplugged but all these years later. I'm hearing the general public even commenting like they never have before. This is a grown mature artist. This is Mariah Carey.

Re: Raindream? (97,359) (97,362) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Haha so "she done already done had herses" is line RuPaul picked up from a fast food restaurant employee. The story goes that after a night out at a club RuPaul went to a fast food restaurant and someone was about to pick up a bag that didn't belong to them. That's when the employee behind the counter said "she done already done had herses" basically meaning "she had already gotten her bag, this isn't hers".

Also I didn't start watching the UK version yet but they once had a Mariah episode in the US version. Where they were told to kind of be like those televangelists recruiting people to join their beliefs and one team chose Mariah, the other chose Britney and I was shocked at how little they knew about Mariah. It was a disaster. The only other time they mention her to my knowledge is during the US all stars season in one episode and I didn't watch that yet.

Yes, I went to the concert too and was blown away by her vocals. Way better than on the Charmbracelet album. I still think of the "Bringin' on the Heartbreak" version as one of her best stage presence ever. It was magic. The whole concert was fire. Mariah was shining.

Re: Taped performances during quarantine (97,351) (97,360) by Billy from Greece
I've noticed it too. The thing is, her acapellas during 2020, or whenever you hear her voice stripped, do not have that quality and it sounds just beautiful. I guess it's a choice in how the whole performance is ultimately mixed, maybe to fit whatever "radio-friendly" standards are out there now, I don't know. In other words, it does not sound to me like it's another phase in her vocal evolution, but who knows. I just adore the essence of her voice and whenever you get to hear it at its most natural it's still captivating. By the way, the new arrangement of "We Belong Together" is just perfection, truly wonderful.

Raindream? (97,359) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
What the hell was that about? I tuned in to see Mariah Carey perform. What was with that outfit? Those shoes? That dark hair? That makeup? What the hell is going on? Who did this? Whoever did it deserves a Nobel Peace Prize because I'm down from defcon 4 and my Doctor has a thankyou note ready because the big vein in my head is no longer about to pop.

If this is the new image then I am loving it: makeup that is subtle and sophisticated, the amazing hair colour that suits her skin tones, an amazing style that compliments the shape of her face and bone structure, an outfit that hides the girls and says "hey, if you want magic my mouth is up here" and shoes that scream she already done had herses (watching Ru Paul's Drag Race UK - but no idea what it means, either). Mariah looks amazing. It's as if she were ten years younger (so like two, I guess). Think back to her performing in that shocking pink top with that clown make up and perm. This Mariah looks like that Mariah's daughter.

And the song? I'm disappointed that it's lipped. But the voice was Rainbow-cum-Daydream (I'm calling this era's voice Raindream) and I appreciated it. Mariah should consider serving resonating chest notes and dropping the high octave-jump screeching in future songs and even in performance of old songs. I don't think anybody needs a lot of that anymore.

This was cool. Sehr cool, Frau Carey.

On the subject of Ru Paul's Drag Race Mariah should definitely go on this. She should direct Mariah Carey's "Gutter" The Ru-sical with the Queens lip-syncing their own lyrics to Mariah Carey songs. She could really help them do that. She's had enough practice.

Re: Taped performances during quarantine (97,351) (97,358) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
That fidgety squeakiness/sharpness in her voice seems to be yet another part of its evolution as she ages that she appears to have had since 2018 (if not earlier) and is particularly noticeable on the climax and final chorus of Portrait. It sounds like her trying to belt but not truly committing to it because she fears that her voice, or at least her control of it, may fail her. Whenever she does it, it sounds very tentative and more piercing than pleasant, but it is what it is.

That "live" updated version of WBT is nice, though. It's faithful to the original, but different enough to warrant repeated listens. Sort of reminds me of the times when her remixes actually incorporated noticeable changes in the track, instead of the cut-and-paste no-mixes we've been getting since 2014. Plus, she's looking great.

I saw her on that tour and I was so impressed with her vocals because I did not like how she sounded on that album. The live renditions of the CB songs were so much better than the recordings.
