Listening to the song, I get the feeling that it was mainly the chorus that they had down, and the verses were added later which is why it sounds a little disjointed, if that indeed was the case. I agree with the KMS sample being an afterthought, but maybe using the sample was the original intent to be a part of their failed previous attempt at a duet? Just depends on when exactly Mariah got the rights to use the song.

Save The Day (Remix) (95,156)

How about having Lauryn Hill rap/sing a verse on it before/after the "La la la" part? I do hope the team already has that idea and it's in the works.

I am just putting this out there. What if we will have one more single to be released with a video reminisce of here early debut videos. Hopefully the rumoured track 15 Walter Afansieff collaboration "Anything Can Happen". And hopefully the Loris Holland rumoured "Christmas Glory" will be released as a Christmas single along with the live Tokyo AIWFCIY. Critics are going to give MC praises for the album because the tracks are pre-MOIA era and her voice was fabulous.

Save the Day is better than some say it is (95,154)

Personally, I love the song. I love the message the song gives, because this is a time when we need it most. I actually love the way the song is constructed, the chorus and everything. That being said, I understand why some people say that it sounds sort of unpolished. I guess that's why it is featured on The Rarities, rather than an an actual album. I like that she gave us something great, because I missed her putting out songs. I honestly enjoy the song. It's a grower.

STD. I wish I could unread this. The song itself is alright. The verses are dull but the chorus and bridge are hot. Smart of her to use Killing Me Softly as a sample. That song never gets old and it's the only reason I could get into STD after the beat dropped. I agree that she had plenty of time and inspiration to come up with something better. This song is just another midtempo that could've literally been on any album she's released since TEOM. To be completely honest, I haven't gone back to it since listening to it for the first time on Friday. I love her voice in all its shapes. But her songwriting style has become very repetitive and I find that more concerning than anything else. Caution did have some great numbers but with her abilities and experience she could be putting out much better material.

I also feel STD is 2 separate songs. I'll start out with the positive comments. Mariah is a beast when it comes to spotting out the best parts of a song to sample. The chorus is fire and really ear candy. The worst parts of the song are her thin-whispery voice in-between. Her pronunciation is terrible and her voice is so fragile and mouse-like. I also fear her voice is deteriorating very fast and wonder what will be left in 5 years time. For such an old song in the vault, I felt she could have developed much better vocal delivery. If I had to guess what it was, I would presume it's her alcohol consumption that makes her voice in bad shape. It's interesting to watch old clips of her stating how smoke and alcohol makes her voice vulnerable and yet, it's those same voices that have consumed her and her voice now. I think she wasted a great Lauryn Hill sample TBH. I also don't like she has Lauryn Hill as a feature when it's a copy and paste sample and not a new recording. Very lazy and mis-telling.

The worst things for your vocal chords are smoking, especially marijuana, and alcohol. We know Mariah indulges in both, the latter somewhat excessively. According to Morgan, the split from Tommy is what started those vices, and that was when her voice noticeably changed. The only time it seemed to sound better from the decline was during MCIIY. Presumably she stopped, or certainly reduced, those recreational drugs when she was expecting the twins.

Save The Day (95,146)
by Edward from USA

I hadn't commented on STD because I wanted to actually read what most people here had to say. Well, I think the song has a great chorus, but it feels half-cooked, rushed, as if she said: "JD, let's throw this sample in so I could finally feature an artist in a duet that never was." Sometimes I've questioned whether Mariah has actually lost her muse, but then I think of "Caution" and I reconsider my thoughts. I'm glad STD is relegated to being on the second CD. I do appreciate the fact she's giving us new music, but I think she had plenty of time to cook something great, memorable, way more polished, thought out. Even though I have made my peace with Mariah's voice, I'm worried that in 5 years there would only be whistles left. What in the world is happening? What is affecting this woman's voice so much at this point that it is fading away so fast? I feel very sad about it.

My comments are about the original post and one from a few days ago.
Yeah, I didn't like that he said that either. Is she's a beast now that needs to be tamed? Don't forget "they" [were] upset the other day about one of the posters on here simply saying someone must have mental issues on this board for the negativity, but now we need to tame her bipolar, she's not an animal. For the record, saying someone has mental issues isn't in itself negative. It's not butterflies and rainbows, but it's stating a possible reason for the extreme hatred.

Love it. I was introduced with her debut album. But I feel like I could have become a fan by being introduced by several of her albums. Daydream and Butterfly would have definitely done it for me.

"Terna and We Are Lambily irritate the hell out of me with their 'Mariah has never done anything wrong; she's never even stepped on an ant.'" Neither of us are as you just described. We just choose to remain positive and give her our unconditional love 24/7, unapologetically while making a conscious effort not to judge nor jump to conclusions without weighing the facts first.

Lol, after all the how many weeks at number one on pre-orders alone. Only to find out the Tokyo concert is actually all the lock-down concerts she's been having with Roc & Roe with one audience member - Tanaka. Haha. I would have a field day laughing at Bill. Better don't give her any ideas. We all know by now she's on this message board. Hehe.

Please no. The 90s vocals are perfect. If they are re-sung it will be like the monstrosity of Can't Say No. Though I do fear the Carey/Margulies composition will be the GMA 2020 version of Vision of Love, and that one of the Carey/Afanasieff ones will be the GMA 2020 Close My Eyes or that odd Hero remake she did when The Ballads was released.
I'm setting my expectations low so that I am pleasantly surprised. We love everybody.

There is one thing that we can say about Mariah's collaborations with Walter Afansieff is that their songs were never disjointed or weird in anyway. I like to think that when they collaborated together he tamed her bipolar. With JD, Mariah's need to over sing or insert awkward song parts or create crazy arrangements tend to come out more since she has gotten older. STD is just one song on album. We will get others that we haven't heard all. Just be patient everyone.
