Re: STD is epic (95,091) (95,107)

Irrespective of what Mariah is trying to communicate (and, most assuredly, your crayon doodle of an idea is not it), the song is pretty awful.
The chorus is In The Mix Part II. And Part I was nauseating enough. This one reminds me of the Mixedish cast and their obnoxious dancing all over again. Seriously, who is this song aimed at? Kids doing Tiktoks?
The Fugees sample is absolutely bizarre. It doesn't go with the rest of the song. They seem to have tacked it on to give an otherwise infantile, forgettable song a hook. Why not ask Lauryn Hill to rap? I mean, she's no JD, obvs, but I hear she's pretty good at it.
Yet, there is a flash of brilliance: Mariah's light and airy head voice floating over the creeping, atmospheric plonky-piano melody and strings in the second verse. That right there is a great concept for a whole song were it to steadily build in intensity throughout the track. But the moment is lost in the cacophony of everything else that is going on.

Eddie Eddie Eddie (thank Todd for reminding me of AbFab again), please don't announce that I am not into orgies. With you and Randy now both in New York City I may be willing to make some serious lifestyle choices.
Posting criticism of me could be the MCA chapter in "How To Win Friends & Influence People". But mostly people post against me because they don't like the truth. And on the rare occasion that they can tolerate it, they prefer it dressed up with bells on. Which I am a lot better at than I used to be, thank you very much.
Posting that there is something wrong with my mental health in such a serious, mob-mentality way is pretty dark but I am quite confident that there is not so I pay it no mind.
Besides on any given day I am certain Bobby-A lives where the buses don't go and Lafa-ble is using a VPN up there on the mothership.

JT. This board is meant for everyone that has love for MC. If Andrew criticizes MC, it's because he knows she's capable of more and he wants her to win. Loving someone is not allowing them to run amok recklessly with their talent. Would you handle a crystal meth addict with kid gloves? It's ok that you're eating out of the garbage as long as you're still eating. That's what matters. To say Andrew has mental issues is making a mockery of the mental issue subject. And yes I'm diagnosed bipolar mixed type. But I am an award winning school teacher, a brother, an uncle and a son. I have three degrees, am a published poet and live in NYC. I'm hardly embarrassed. The way I see it, this board is meant for the entire spectrum of sexuality (gay to straight), the entire spectrum of mental health (normal to schizo), the entire spectrum politically (Trump to Sanders). Terna and We Are Lambily irritate the hell out of me with their "Mariah has never done anything wrong; she's never even stepped on an ant." But this is a place for them as they are on that side of the MC fandom spectrum. Andrew and I are on the frustrated side of the MC fandom spectrum. But we're all a family. And none of us are about to leave. The only one who may need to leave is he who does not understand differing opinions. That's you in case I was too subtle. Hey it's a "Subtle Invitation" for you to leave.

You've got to be kidding me. As an English teacher, I deal with the criticism that we over interpret things. If the heroine has blue curtains in a novel, it doesn't mean she's depressed. If a superhero spills ketchup on his suit while eating a hot dog, it doesn't mean he's about to explode with anger. I love that you hear great moments in the song but to analyze it down to its sections and then relate it to the world's ills today is reaching. Like a rubber band reaching to connect the United States to Great Britain because we miss being under the crown.

If you think this is me being harsh, you really are quite new. I took a quick look at the (very) few messages you have posted, which are either you telling Eric what not to post in the news section, or negative in spirit, or both. All approximately 7 of them.
I calculate that in 7 years I have written posts covering about 70 pages - which is about 3% of the entire MCA messageboard. So I sort of feel like one of the regulars at the bar who glances over to see someone nobody's seen before throwing a strop at the bartender. I may get irritated by the other patrons sometimes, I may not like the new music on the jukebox, and, hell, I may even have a fight with the owner now and again. But I love the concept and service, the company of those I banter with and the company of those I bicker with, enough to keep coming back and supporting the place, even, and especially, when it's quiet.
And I sure as shit am not going to listen to or tolerate some jumped up little twat who doesn't care enough to grace the pub with his presence all that often acting like he owns the place when he does.
Keep readin'.

What I really want (95,100)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Tracks I don't want to see on "The Rarities":
01. Everything Fades Away 02. Slipping Away 03. Do You Think Of Me 04. Do You Know Where You're Going To 05. There For Me 06. There Goes My Heart 07. I Know What You Want 08. Miss You 09. Sprung 10. Secret Love 11. Heat 12. 4Real4Real
If it was put on a physical CD at some point, I don't want it on "The Rarities". That would leave space for lots of great music from the 90's and the 2000's. "Help Me Make It" wasn't ever released digitally or physically, "Yours" with Justin Timberlake would also be great. "Kick Rocks", "Reach for The Sky", "Rainbow Interlude" full song, "Misty Moon" from that Japanese commercial, the potential to kill us all with lots of a great music is endless.

Well it's not my favourite either, but it's one of the few songs released that is not available on any album, so thought it would be included in the compilation, for completeness.

True. I rarely think about it. Jody McBrayer of the Christian group Avalon does not do a better version of it on his solo album.

I wonder why There For Me has not been included in The Rarities. Going by the songwriting credits, there is no Carey/Warren/Foster reference to indicate its inclusion.

According to Amazon.jp, the Japanese edition will come with a BluRay disc of the Tokyo Dome show.
Does anyone know where one can be ordered aside from auction sites like eBay? Or does anyone know how to adjust the language setting on Amazon's Japan site so I can understand what I am ordering? Thanks.

While only the webmaster can speak to what constitutes getting banned, nobody should chalk anyone else's posts up to "mental health issues".
We have had multiple users on this message board talk openly about depression during these times of lockdowns and quarantining - so to use the term so nonchalantly is just dangerous and wrong.

Yes it is. I think I figured out why Save The Day is arranged the way it is. First, the strings and slow introduction represents the racial and equality in the world and how everyone was affected by it. Second, the rap like first verse is similar to the other social justice rap songs that came out in the spring and MJ's Black and White. The Lauryn Hill sample represents a cry out for change. The ending is MC's plea to us to make change for the betterment of us all.

I'm fairness to Save the Day, I like it a bit more after playing it repeatedly. I personally don't think it benefits from the sample. I always prefer more developed lyrics. The strings intro isn't necessary. I guess I would have edited it differently. I don't mind it but don't sense it will go anywhere. Enjoy it for what it is.

The Rarities (95,086)
by Ethan from United States

Based on the Wiki page, we can assume that there won't be the following songs: 1. Where are you Christmas? 2. Do you know where you're going to? (I'm glad it's not included) 3. A Diane Warren co-written song (rumored to be a power ballad)
If it's in chronological order, then track 6 might be from the Daydream era that didn't make the cut since Always Be My Baby was such a strong song. Probably a R&B/Pop type of song. I think track 15 is a powerful ballad and might be one of the last songs they worked on just like how she saved Lead The Way in the 90s for the Glitter soundtrack.
I was hoping for a song from Babyface since Never Forget You and Melt Away are instant hits at first listen. Maybe there's still on in the vault somewhere. But based on the length listed on the Wiki page, you guys might be right about some of the songs on the album.

Caution (95,084)
by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
| |

I was laying out by the lake the other day, streaming the Caution album. I had a thought... if Caution was the debut album by Mariah I would be an instant fan. Like, it is so slick and good and addictive. If she was a new artist coming out with Caution, she would be a water oasis in the midst of a musical desert. What other albums do you all think would make you fall for her if it were her first album? (I hope my wording is clear.)

So catchy. "If he won't, then she won't and they won't..." I love it. Needed this, the production and sample makes this sound like a familiar classic. So much more about the vibe than the acrobatics, it's such a bop for me. Hope you all are enjoying the single.
