I love some songs or even artists now, that I didn't appreciate when I was younger, or for various other reasons. I even hated Hero years ago, but enjoy listening to it occasionally now. Sure Mimi ommitted lots of stuff, there's only so many pages, but I think she was truthful about all that she said, she is careful and rightly so after all the attacks, lawsuits etc, that she has been hit with in her life and career. From recent Stella settlement, to her assistant lawsuit which is still pending, to her own lawsuit of James for wasting her time, or ruining her stunt. That "error" is a book unto itself. I don't think she was going to be giving props to a song nobody had ever heard, given the circumstances. Just like she hated "Hero" and then all of a sudden she found out how much she loves it. I think she just can't stand "Hero" but she also knows that people identify that song with her, almost as her signature song. After her memoirs, I take everything she says with a grain of salt. Loverboy versus (96,386) by Terna from Nigeria Seriously? We're comparing the two versions now? Lol. Anyways I like both and can appreciate the absolute [musical] genius Mariah is for coming up with the [Candy] version and making it work. I can appreciate the [Firecracker] version, but it kinda digressed after a few spins for me and sometimes sounds "noisy", too loud, with too much going on at some points to make sense musically. Vocally Mariah sounds healthier on the Firecracker version but the Candy version has a better vocal performance (she uses her voice more) by far than the Firecracker one. It's playtime is also longer giving it room for more adlibs and let's not forget the shade by [Da Brat] sing rapping to the melody of the stolen sample "Hate on me much as you want to." Lol. Epic. Mariah's legacy (96,385) by Anonymous from USA First things first, I deleted my account on this board a few years ago but now I'm back. I've not posted in a while because of all the negativity on this board but I've learned to simply ignore and skip those messages from those people when I see their avatars. Mariah Carey is a living legend. Her music has inspired many people and will continue to do so after we are no longer here. Of course her voice has changed a lot but her passion for writing, recording and producing music she loves has not. We may not love some songs that she has released but they are still far superior than anything else being recorded out there by other artists. I personally am very excited about the new book, The Rarities and anything else coming our way this Christmas. I will always support her no matter what anyone here or anywhere says about her because she is a true living legend and there's no one that compares or even comes close to her creative genius. And simply because I am a grown man and no one tells me what to do, think or feel about anything. Period. Much love to all the true fans out there. (Wednesday 21 October 2020; 14:51)

Not connecting with The Rarities (96,380) by amends from Germany I've been listening to the LP a lot and I really want to love it but somehow I am not connecting with the album. I feel like I should love Loverboy (Firecracker) and other songs on the album but somehow it's just not doing much inside of me. Obviously I love EFA, Slipping Away and DYTOM. I've been blasting those songs for a long time though, so nothing new there. The memoir on the other hand I appreciated very much. Coming from Arab parents and being gay, growing up in Germany and always feeling like an imposter in some way - I for one understand the hair obsession Mariah had as a child and the damage something simple like this can leave behind. The book is her truth and sometimes it's easier to lie to yourself so much that it becomes your reality. Not saying I'm making any excuses for MC - she has her issues and she is dealing (or not) with them in her own way. If writing that book helped her emotionally, I am happy for her. I remember loving that album then, especially tracks such as You Rock My World and the trifecta of Break of Dawn, Heaven Can Wait, and Butterflies, but I also remember how much Janet was on fire then and how All For You was just a much more interesting, varied listen. Michael was the much bigger seller, star, and better performer, but Janet was the wiser artist in terms of production choices, image management and taking full advantage of her limited voice. Re: Solid Mariah (96,363) (96,374) by Mirage_Nunez from America I often watch younger youtubers react to Mariah's music for the first time and see them being completely blown away, instantly acknowledging how amazing and legendary she is. She's a stable whether she catch your attention through memes , tiktok challenges, thee Christmas song, or hear Emotions, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, WBT in passing in the store/or on radio and Shazam her; she'll never be forgotten and constantly rediscovered by the younger generations. When I was a kid in the 90s (pre internet days) I enjoyed exploring music before my time. I'd watching VH1 greatest women in rock & roll or behind the music and learn about so many great artist I'd never heard of before/knew existed. I went to the record store and actually purchased Etta James (At Last) and Carole King (Tapestry) albums after being exposed to them in my teen years. There were even instances where I heard songs on the radio in passing (as a kid) and then years later only remember the melody and a couple lyrics, to later dig and dig until I rediscover the song and artist. That's the impact of what great music would make you do once you're exposed to it, you may end up appreciating it even more later in life. Interviews (96,371) by We are lambily from USA We don't give Trevor Noah enough credit for giving us one of the most amazing, heartfelt interviews from Mariah. Just read the comments from YouTube, people are so shocked how down to earth and nice Mariah really is. The media is really a powerful tool and so destructive in a way, the fact that 99% of everyone who has ever met Mariah speaks so highly of her speaks volume. Yet if you read garbage newspapers or blogs they sing a different tune. A guy who works in Target did a tiktok on celebrities he came across, he gave Mariah 100/10 rating. I truly hope we see more fun segments from Mariah, let's hope this covid mess ends soon. (Tuesday 20 October 2020; 21:26)

I had to walk like 2 miles to the nearest record store near my hotel to get the CD single. I hadn't heard the song on radio as radio wasn't really playing it. It was the first Mariah song that I had to sorta initially force myself to like. I did end up really loving the Candy version of "Loverboy", but always wished the vocals and chorus were stronger. The Firecracker version is the first Mariah song since maybe "It's Like That" that I loved upon first listen. I have been playing it non-stop since The Rarities came out. It would have been in instant #1 back in 2001. The intro/outro are amazing and sort of tie the song to the same vein as Fantasy and ABMB. And the chorus. So much better than the Cameo version. The chorus really pops and goes much harder in the Firecracker version. I also love that it doesn't feature a rapper or anyone else - just a catchy as hell upbeat Mariah song that would have been in the same class as her lead singles throughout the 90s. I know Mariah says she thinks they did her a favor because she prefer the Candy version, but I think she may just be saying that to save face. The Firecracker version is far superior. She has always been an album artist, and even on her worst albums since Control (Discipline, 20 Y.O., Damita Jo), she still made an effort to keep her albums flow as one unit even when the various genres and sounds she experiments with make achieving such a bit challenging. She doesn't have as many recognizable deep cuts, but each of her albums work well sonically and thematically. The impeccable run of albums from Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet., The Velvet Rope to even All For You - more consistently enjoyable and better constructed albums than anything Michael has released after Bad, which is interestingly is also the time when Janet started eclipsing his brother in terms of critical and chart success. Even Janet's Unbreakable is much stronger than Michael's album of the same name. (Tuesday 20 October 2020; 15:38)
