Re: Dissed-ish (90,890) (90,891)

Hmmm. I don't intend on watching it, I'm a bit too old for all that sort of stuff these days, but maybe the song wasn't ready when the episode was put together. Mariah is usually a bit last minute in these circumstances.

Dissed-ish (90,890)
by Brad from USA

They didn't use or play Mariah's theme song, In the Mix, at all in the series debut of mixed-ish. Though she may be better off, the show was predictable and not all that, at all. I would still consider it a diss though. The song can certainly be snipped and used in show segues and they just totally ignored it. So wrong.

The Memoirs era for me was one of her best eras fashion wise. She looked absolutely gorgeous. Black is my favorite color so the constant black ensembles didn't bother me. I never really got why fans always went crazy over her natural curls back in the day, but when she tried to recreate the looks from the first album I had my "oh" moment. The only blips in the Memoirs era was the H.A.T.U. and IWTKWLI videos.

I cannot believe that its tenth anniversary is around the corner. She looks gorgeous in this promotional tour with the dark curls (particularly during the premiere of Precious). An interesting era.

Aww. Thanks all of you that thought of me haha. I just read over my old messages about it, I definitely owe this one to the good Lord above as he well and truly answered my prayer (exclamation mark). I honestly felt like I was in a dream when I read that tracklisting, plus, a new song to boot. Such great news. I wonder if the version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman will be the original or the other version that was on the "other" anniversary edition of the album. I think I prefer the original as it's always been engrained in my soul since 1994 and the re-mastered version sounds odd lol. But who cares we're getting the St John the Divine concert so I couldn't be more happy. If someone from Mariah's label read my message and did this off the back of my comment, I am forever in your debt. This will be the first time AIWFCIY has been heard performed live in the year of release. All we've had before is the Tokyo Dome performance, which was amazing, and then the ropey version from MicFeedGate. I have never wished my days away but please October hurry up and zip past so we can get to November lol.
Also just seen there's a lovely green cassette. That will go nicely with my pink Caution cassette. Thanks Mariah for keeping retro alive.

Wow, finally a proper deluxe version. Just the second CD by itself is worth every peny. I don't buy physical cds anymore, but this one I'm definitely getting. Its going to be a very Merry Christmas for sure.

This is a great gift indeed for all the fans and supporters of MC, and for people who love the holiday season and holiday music. AIWFCIY definitely has great chance of getting to #1 and that would be an amazing gift for MC and all of us who have been down with her all of these years.

The cover of the 7" is beautiful. I'm so used to the greyscale of the original, this colourised version really pops. Looks beautiful.

I also thought of Bill as soon as I heard it was being included. We may get on each other's nerves from time to time but we really are a family here at MCA. Of course, I'm the crazy delusional aunt who forgot to take her meds.

I have just ordered mine, plus the 7 inch vinyl of AIWFCIY. I am little curious though about why it is only available on her website? Will these sales be counted for the Billboard 200 for the November 1st street date?

Re: Heartbreaker at 20 (90,871) (90,872)
by Tijl from Belgium

The budget was huge and "Heartbreaker" is still in the top 10 of the most expensive videos ever made. Why? The rental of the cinema at 100.000 dollars for one day only. Apparently the fee to hire Jerry O'Connell was very high because they had to recast at the very last minute and the animated sequence was rather costly as well. Furthermore there are two versions of the original version with different scenes in which Jay-Z does appear and a mansion was rented to shoot his scenes. A great video but one wouldn't imagine it to be that expensive.

Heartbreaker at 20 (90,871)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Happy two decades to one of Mariah's best-aging lead singles. I'm still impressed at how this song managed to turn that unlikely sample into possibly the most deceptively sunny, feel-good sad song in history. Was it the first pop track with a rap feature in its original version to ever top the charts or something?
Anyways, it's just unfortunate that by the time Heartbreaker was released, critics were already tired of Mariah's lead single formula. While it wasn't a creative leap forward, it still made for a pretty awesome song. My favorite part is towards the end when Mariah seamlessly lays the "gimme your love" hook over the pre-chorus, over the chorus. To this day, that remains a masterclass on vocal layering.
I'll still never understand where the huge budget exactly went into the video, but I'll be forever grateful that it introduced us to the infamous Bianca (prior to her, the only pop alter ego I remember was Madonna's Dita). 20 years in and it still is a classic, immensely enjoyable romp that, like her past few lead singles at that point, managed to squeeze in a mini vocab lesson within it.

I feel the same. I wish it had a catchier chorus than just "yaaay us". A theme song needs to have an addictive element, which this song doesn't in my opinion. It's too short a song to be dressed in melisma from top to bottom. On the other hand, the music is super fresh. I never realized how much I'd missed Popriah. I'm loving the whistles as well. I hope we'll get at least a couple of pop/electronic songs on the new album. It suits her so well.

Miss You Most (At Christmas Time). (90,868)
by Terna from Nigeria

There's something about this song that just takes me there and puts me in a really good mood. It was the first song I heard from "Merry Christmas", I had no idea there even was a Christmas album but I think it's the way I first heard it that made such an impression. I watched the video at the same time I heard the song for the first time. It was Christmas day around 2:00 am can't recall the year, late 90's most likely 1999. I was alone watching late night music videos. "Last Christmas" by 'Wham" had just played and then the next song that came on was a Mariah Carey song one I had never heard before, and it was a Christmas song on Christmas Day. Oh the Joy. Lol. Didn't even realize it was a sad song until much later. Haha. I was a new Lamb then and boy was it an event to discover a new Mariah record from her already vast body of work even then. Somehow Mariah songs or performances always seemed to come on every time I was alone watching TV.

I feel like we got old school 90's R&B Mariah but for 2019 with this song. Her vocals are on point, the vibe is cool, the beat is catchy. Well done Mariah. My new jam.
