Wasn't Glitter some kind of indie movie? Casting somebody like Brad Pitt would had inflated the budget. Glitter is what it is. One of Mariah's "beautiful mistakes".

Brad Pitt should've been the male lead in Glitter (90,764)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

I always wonder to myself why on earth those powers that be picked UK actor, Max Beesley, who was somewhat unknown in US market, to be the male lead in Mariah's debut movie. I would say if they picked Brad Pitt or other A list actors or even B list actors such as Dean Cain, the movie would have fared better.

Re: Glitter aka another disaster movie (90,762) (90,763)

Just to be clear, I never assumed Mariah changed the script. I might remember wrong, but I think she mentioned it a couple of times that the script had to be changed. If you say it was rejected by Sony you know what I meant to say. I am just like move on, we are talking about an 18 year old movie and why put more salt on obvious wounds? It was not only a terrible time for the world, but also for Mariah. She deserves more respect in my opinion.

All due respect, I simply want to clarify some facts here. Mariah didn't "change" the script. Cheryl L. West and Kate Lanier ultimately wrote the story and screenplay after previous submissions had been rejected by Columbia pictures (who called the shots). It was reported that the script was being finished during the movie shoot. Yes, the director Vondie Curtis Hall's job is to competently run the show and morally support everything and everyone attached to the project. He should have been hung out to dry for this hot mess. $22mil was spent on Glitter compared to a worldwide gross of 5.2mil. Tommy Mottola was not on set, although it was reported he had access to the rushes/etc as Columbia is a subsidiary of Sony Music Corp. Mariah's 80's revival was a good idea, she was just too early and in retrospect not a prudent business move to star in her own film. 9/11 is and always will be an unfortunate time in our history, but let's call it like it is. The movie could have been so much better, it just wasn't. Perhaps Mariah shot for the stars here but never made it off her feet.

Isn't it well known she had to change the entire script to this movie while filming? And that the director told Mariah it would be ok? That Tommy was on set? You don't mention the director once? Don't you think the 80's revival might have "happened" later because of 9.11? 9.11 is a reverence to something that happened in 2001. There were some circumstances.

I absolutely love this mix. It's so beautiful to me. I've always loved UTS, but this mix gives it new life. No background vocals, just her.

Glitter aka another disaster movie (90,759)
by Tijl from Belgium
| |
|

I just rewached "Glitter" last night and well... it is still a bad movie. Not the atrocity the press made it seem to be at the time yet a missed opportunity. 1. Mariah wasn't ready to be a lead actress and to carry (pun unintended) an entire film. 2. The script is full of mistakes and is geared towards teenagers. 3. There is absolutely no chemistry between MC and Max Beesley. 4. The '80s revival started over a decade later hence the nostalgia had little to no relevance at the time. 5. The production values were of inferior quality. The soundrack however still rocks.

I don't know if Ellen has a "problem" with Mariah. Maybe yes, maybe no. She's definitely tired of her when MC doesn't want to answer. But as someone mentioned it's Mariah Carey. On the other side, I never understood why Ellen is so popular in the US on TV.

Just to play devil's advocate, maybe Ellen isn't really feeling Mariah because of how Mariah almost always never answers questions? I guess after several visits, Ellen's totally over it. I'm not defending Ellen, if I'm being honest I only watch her when Mariah's on; too much screaming women every few seconds hurt my ears. Also, Ellen is not funny. Never has.

Mariah bikini pic / in the mix (90,754)

She looks really good in this pic. We haven’t gotten a new bikini shot in years. Looks like a mixture of dieting and maybe some cool sculpting. This looks like a good balanced body. Not too thin, kind of reminds me of her 2007 body where they caught her in the beach topless. Maybe she is preparing to film a video for in the mix. When does the new song premiere?

Is this for real? Rewatch that interview, it might be that you change your opinion. I guess it's the Christmas interview in 2016 you're taking about? If so, I don't see what you're seeing. Anyway, I do agree that it was from an area that wasn't good for Mariah.

Mariah and Ellen (90,751)
by We are Lambily from USA
| |
|

"I remember one segment where she tried to get Mariah to play a game and Mariah was being difficult and wouldn't answer the questions, that seemed to piss Ellen off."
I think we all remember that episode lol, Ellen was extremely rude, she started off the interview in such a negative way and talked about how Mariah is late, when it's been mentioned a few times, the truth is Ellen has never truly cared for Mariah, she only played it nice for the cameras, but if you truly love a person you don't bash them on live tv and talk about how she comes late and drag on it, that was the first time I have ever seen Ellen act like that, I think the entrance made her jealous or something.
What Ellen and apparently a few people here don't get is that's Mariah The Carey, a true living legend, that segment what so disrespectful and lame for a artist of her Caliber, if you meant the segment where she chooses between guys. I'm sorry but you don't ask the most successful female singer songwriter producer of all time that or anything remotely like that. Or the industry biggest hitmaker. I hate that interview and the truth is I have only watched it once.
Anyways everyone let's press delete on that era and focus on the future and #19.

Yes, the Genius interview and the "lost" Rainbow interview are the types of interviews we as fans long for. That insight into her artistry and nuggets of information we never knew previously. We know she's a beauty school drop out and was forced into wearing turtle necks and long dresses 30 years ago. We don't need to hear it for the 4000th time. I really hope the memoirs are insightful and isn't just a vanity project with back door endorsements and name drops thrown all over the place.

I agree. That Genius interview was everything. I absolutely love when she lets the world know just how knowledgeable she is about the industry. She left Shaderiah and Divariah tied up in the basement and let Businessriah shine through and I loved every minute. That whole interview embodied what I wanted Mariah's World to be like with fun moments thrown in.

Lol I'm not wasting my time. Honestly though I think it's the Packer/Mariah/Banaka bullsh*t situation that has really kept me from watching the video. I don't even listen to the song anymore. I'm not getting into Infamous. I'd like to pretend none of it happened. Lol.

I've thought that for a long time Todd. Ellen is very dismissive of the diva behaviour Mariah would bring and it seemed like the producers had just booked Mariah and Ellen couldn't move along quick enough. I remember one segment where she tried to get Mariah to play a game and Mariah was being difficult and wouldn't answer the questions, that seemed to piss Ellen off. I'd rather Mariah just did the show when she had something to really talk to.
