Re: Abandon? (85,598) (85,602)

JD probably just sits back watching those other producers try, knowing he should have the lead single. He and Mariah definitely work well together. I like the mashup video he tweeted today of Mimi and Lil Kim. Mimi can't dance, but a video paying hommage to the Crush on You video would be cute, especially with Kim on the remix.

Mariah vs. Michael (85,601)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
So Mariah and Michael Bublé are going head to head on November 16. Nothing from both Caution and (apparently pronounced Love) have really taken off, although both artists have loyal core fanbases that have dwindled through the years, albeit maybe more so for Mariah. The jazz-pop community tends to support anything Michael releases. We can't say the same for Mariah's wider yet more fickle R&B-pop fans. Both their sales have declined with their last 2 releases, so they're pretty much even at this point. I'm gonna get both albums, although I'mma get Caution on its tracking week and get Love a week later. Mariah hasn't had a #1 album in 10 years, so it would be really nice for her to have one by the end of the year. I'm just a bit worried about the purchases Michael might get from former fans who might have been misled by the untrue rumor of his retirement and that Love would be his last album. But Mariah has the stronger, catchier, all-original material and is supported by better promo so far, so I hope it works out for her this time. It would be a great Christmas gift to the woman whom we owe much of the festive holiday joy every year.

Damn I love her and the subtle shade to American idol. And maybe we are finally one step closer to a mentor gig one day. Mariah did amazing on that show, I wonder who they get next year.

JD just confirmed on Twitter to me that he is the producer for A No No. So what is going to happen to other songs she did with him, BMC, Johnta Austin, and Bobby Ross Avila? Sounds like there is a plan for Caution Part 2 next Spring.

Will you just stop saying Mariah's voice is stronger and that she can practice to regain former ease. It makes me annoyed. What's gone is gone simply. I enjoy her studio recordings.

Why aren't you happy with this era or Mariah's new team? What would you have done differently? I think her new team is doing an excellent job. Each release has been strategic and has served a specific purpose. GTFO was released to generate buzz, With You was released to engage Mariah's adult contemporary fans, The Distance to engage her pop fans, and A No No engage her hip-pop fans. I'm waiting to see which song is chosen as the second single, The Distance or A No No.

Randy what is wrong with Jessica Rabbit gowns? She looks great. To me her outfits have been pretty much perfect on the Asian tour. Not too revealing and still sexy and classy. And sparkly.

Yup, "My All" and "The Roof" that's what I call songwriting. Just genius. It's so poetic, I can feel every word from beginning to end.

I saw this movie in cinema when I was a little kid. I was so frightened of Edward. Lol. At that time I didn't know Mariah. But it's really nostalgic that she's using it in her song.

Mariah's voice returning (85,586)
by Lexingz from Estonia

I have been watching recordings of Mariah's last 3 shows, including the one in Singapore. Her voice is doing things it hasn't done in a long time. And not lipping either. What's up? For proof listen to "Love takes time" from Singapore (or the couple last renditions of My All) P.S. My famous clairvoyance is at work again. I was thinking hard about "Love Takes Time" yesterday. And poof she sang it in Singapore on the third.

I didn't understand a lot in your message. And a lot of people claim to have a crush on me but when they meet me I have to sing, "You Don't Know What To Do". Nah I'm not happy with this era. I think anyone on this board, including those who don't like me, would handle MC better than her current handlers. We all agree on very little but we would've led with A No No and she would not have an album of ten songs and she would not be wearing Jessica Rabbit gowns nor would she be recording songs she couldn't sing live. But hey, now I'm just along for the ride.

So she's fixed the Times Square problem with AIWFCIY for this year by now lipping large sections of it like everything else. I feel bad for her in this video. When she does sing she is flat and struggling to get out of one octave. Some vocals seem like painful shouts. This cannot be healthy. She needs to stop touring and see a doctor.

It’s interesting to read Mariah’s feelings on one of her biggest hits. I love hearing stories about how these moments of genius come together. I’d love to know the behind the scenes around The Roof or My All. Those songs are pure poetry and the imagery and feelings they bring to the surface are something I can never quite put into words. But it’s as if I have lived those experiences, they are so well written.

I don't think it has to do with ageism at all. If a song is a hit it will be a hit without promotion, and even without a face, remember Sia and that chandelier haha. I think it has to do more with the fact that producing new comers and sending them to fly away when the flavor is gone is the way things are done now. Social media and such has made it so easy for young artists to have their deals but they also don't have longevity at all. Yesterday it was Katy Perry, nowhere to be seen anymore truthfully, Lady Gaga became a grandma and "legend" at her 30s and the views and spins of her music have heavily decreased and this includes Iggy Azalea and such who came from YouTube flips all being replaced by new comers, and the new chewing gum is Dua Lipa and the likes, five years from now we won't hear about these people anymore. It's amazing that the likes of Mariah get to be heard at all.

Finally you actually like something this era. Sorry to hear you have a lot going on, I can relate. She's trying to gain the young social media audience with these non single releases because older acts have trouble getting streams. Her team must have noticed that for some reason Mariah Carey "reaction" videos of her most memorable live performances seem to be quite popular. So drop a song in the middle of the night in the middle of the week, starting with a song where "Mariah Carey" is telling someone to GTFO. Seems to be working as there seems to be a lot of reaction videos to her new music and videos this era and young people seem to be interested in her music. She can't promote right now since she is on tour so why not throw out a song and video of one of the weaker tracks that will remind the young kids if the Mariah they knew (TEOM/WBT/DFAU) growing up. "She's going back to her old roots said a young blogger - lol. WY was only sent to AC formats because it was never planned to be promoted and it's probably the only song on the album that will be played on the soccer mom radio format. Once the album is released they can drop a stronger song which is usually the second single in her case and actually send it to radio formats with larger audiences and cross promote it with her Christmas music during her holiday take over. RTD holds a special place in my heart. Someone tried to commit suicide who was very close to me not too long ago and I played them the song and it became their anthem and gave them hope and the strength to keep living. They were surprised she still wrote such emotional songs. This is random but I sat with another Chicago lamb for a gathering and they randomly mentioned you and said "Isn't he bae?" You have some admirers.
