MTV win (110,633)
by Lambi from USA
| |
|
|
Okay so I was correct in my assessment here. I connected the dots. Allure release where she breaks down her music videos is basically signaling that she will win an award. Thank you Gamma. Hope she maximizes this big TV moment. Anyway my faves are: • Honey • Heartbreaker • Boy (I Need You) • Shake It Off • I'll Be Loving U Long Time • Type: Dangerous
We can finally set aside Mad TV's, "Another super whack Mariah video."

Here For It All (110,484)
by Lambi from USA

Yup and that Allure release where she breaks down her music videos is basically campaign for her to win a VMA. She set up this year to be tremendously hyped, to be in the forefront and to win, which I'm pretty sure what will actually happen with this nomination.
I'm kind of bummed it's through a mediocre song but it is about videos though, not music. She should've gotten it a long time ago with Shake It Off, even as early as Honey, so I'm pretty sure they're like, "Alright, let's just give it to her." Since she's never gotten one before. And with Gamma being a 400 million dollar company. They could easily pull some strings.
Going to enjoy the moment. It's always festive when we see our Mariah on TV. Who knows? Maybe she'll drop the 3rd single then. She may have changed gears real quick when she realizes the "favorites" in the album isn't hitting. I hope someone has told her, "Have you written with Jermaine yet?" Except scratch Jermaine and replace with today's hot new producer, with actual talent, then maybe a new WBT moment will come to fruition.

Mtv Video Vanguard Award (110,632)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|
|
Maybe they will release a new video during the show. I read somewhere here that Mariah's shooting a video in Brazil, so hopefully that's for the new single or Sugar Sweet. Mariah has done some really amazing videos. I even like the ones where she's just singing or pretending to sing.
I thought the video production of "O Holy Night" is really good, and that's one of the reasons that its become a standard in the album. On her new career path as a Christmas lady, she should lift a few songs from that album and release a solid video every holiday season every year. She's promoting the same album anyway right? Miss You Most At Christmas could be a new classic for her if she does.
The two singles from Music Box (Hero and Without You) are also well produced videos. I know people will think "that's just her singing in a concert", "they have no concept". But if you watch the full concert, you just know from the production of those two sets that they thought they will be singles, they put a lot more effort in the camera angles, lighting, Mariah's performance is more animated, audience captured, and all.
I mean don't you just hate it when Mariah belts a note in 90s and she's out of focus and its not captured on camera for posterity's sake? They did that a lot in Top of Pops when she was at her peak. It's sacrilege.
Anyway, from a concept perspective, my favorites are: Shake It Off, the back-to-back serialized style of Its Like That / We Belong Together, Obsessed (with Mariah pretend-acting as two characters, and one of my all-time favorites Honey.
Mariah had a lot of great music videos, and its well-deserved award.

MTV Video Vanguard Award (110,629)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

Mariah is reported to recieve the MTV Video Vanguard Award at this years MTV Video Music Awards. I am absolutly over the top happy about the news, but it is almost also the epitome of irony, that Mariah, who has never won an MTV Video Music Award, will receive the top notch award. It's actually ridiculous and almost an offence to Mariah. But maybe it is MTV's way of apologizing to Mariah for never have given her an award before.
Mariah gets respect in places she was ridiculed before, but after many years she gets recognition, as has have been the case many times before.
Mariah will may not get her "Believe"-moment, but to get this award, will be equivalent to the success of Cher, in that sense that this will give much more publicity for Mariah in years, it's almost a 18th number one hit-moment, when she surpassed Elvis, but also because this is a freaking nice award to get at 56, after 35 years in the business.

My Mariah song covers (110,627)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
Yup Mariah was meant to cover this song. In my opinion it would have fit perfect on the "Daydream" album. It gives another flow to the song "Underneath the stars". She also could have covered it during her Emancipation era because her voice was so smooth and on fire during that time. It wouldn't have fit on the album but she could have just covered just for me as a recording haha. Aaliyah did such a good job covering it. I really wish she was still here. Mariah liked her music.

Too bad 'Twilight Zone" wasn't the first single off Ariana's album last year and the the re-release single this April was "Yes, And" (featuring Mariah). It could've served as her first single from HFIA too. It would've went to #1 for sure. Then Type Dangerous could've been the second single to keep the momentum going.

Oh my yes, her band intro was a favorite moment of mine too. I dragged my younger sister to the concert, lol. She liked a few MC songs but wasn't a bigger fan like myself. That was the tour where fans picked from a list of songs one song for her to sing. Can't Take That Away was chosen. I sat 15 rows back, dead center. Anyway, fun memories to remember.

It’s tiiiime... to let the children know (110,570)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I am bipolar myself, and used lithium for two years, but the side effects made me stop using it, it was not lack of energy or fatigue.
I have also a psychology degree, so I have first hand experience and academic merits.
There are a lot of different medication you can use as a bipolar, but the medications that affect your energy, libido, exuberance, and makes you a "living dead" is the antipsychotic drugs, like zyprexa (olanzapine) and others. Sometimes if you have had a severe relaps like a manic or depressed episode, you can get olanzapine as an injection, or you get another antipsychotic drug called zeplion as an injection. Those medications are administrated once a month, is a so called depot medication, they can have a devastating affect on your mood, happiness, energy, libido, hunger, and the joy of living. Those medication makes you completely flat emotionally, it can give you social anxiety and general anxiety, they keep you in a state where you are just alive, nothing cheers you up, and nothing brings you down, you are completely empty and dead inside, there's not an ounce of mojo what so ever. It's also very frustrating to be in that stat, because you have vivid memories about how you used to be happier, and that makes you even more sad.
I suspect Mariah is, or has, been on heavy medication since the death of her mother and sister, which have made her mojo disappear. Even after you have decreased the dosage or auto seponated the medication, it can take months for you to even have a happy thought occurring in your head, but you will get happy again. Using such medication is not a way to live, I have been there, and will never ever again be so dead inside because of medication again, then I will rather not take them.
I use orfiril which is a stabilizer that works perfectly for me with no side effects.
But be aware guys, after this period with our beloved Mariah be almost a living dead, she is too fatigued to even move around, expect a period from some time from now when she will be exuberant again, and maybe then she will go over the top at the other extreme. But then I think people in her life will keep her out of the public for a short period of time. Mariah was in a manic state at the infamous TRL moment. After her being so low as of recently, it might be expected for her to go up in the clouds as a counter effect in her brain, when chemistry in brain wants to maintain homeostasis again, the neurons releases neurotransmitters to balance the depressed state Mariah is in now. Then she will go overboard, but will retain balance a few weeks to a few months after that.
This is the life of a bipolar, I have written two books and a bunch of opinion articles about it Norwegian newspapers.
Just remember folks, the Mariah we all love is still there, she just have to flourish again.

The answer is no. Notice how the group was called Destiny's Child and not Destiny's Children? The group was used to get Beyonce's foot through the door for her solo career. It was always about her which is why I feel so bad for Kelly and Michelle. They were so happy being the most successful female group other than The Supremes of course. They were dumped like trash. We never even got another Destiny's Child album after "Destiny fulfilled". Beyonce is selfish and if you ask me does not deserve 32 Grammys. At this point how many more can she get?

I couldn't agree with you more Dove. I like Beyonce and think she's a decent singer and vocalist but she is not on the same level as Mariah as a producer or songwriter. I just recently found out Beyonce has produced some songs when she was with Destiny's Child and also some songs later in her solo career. I do think Billboard is over exaggerating her talent as a producer. I guess we're supposed to forget all the dozens of song writers who have helped her with all her albums. And don't get me started on the number of Grammys she is. Her father and Jay Z are why she has so many. I wonder how much the Academy charges for one? I hear they're pretty pricey.

Why is Beyoncé way higher than Mariah (and a lot of the other producers on this list)? I read (on Reddit a long time ago) that she doesn't even write her songs. I read she changes a few words and claims credit. That's her contribution. Are we living in the upside down? How can she, in good conscience, even accept that honor? Does she even deserve all those Grammys she has? She has a great voice, and some great songs, but is she actually the producer? I don't follow her that closely, so please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Random thoughts, again (110,610)
by Haiji from United States
| |
|
|
I wish I was able to message more on this board but lately I've been extra busy to the point where I'm reading some of your messages at a red light lol. Which is why I'm leaving these random thoughts once again.
*I've heard TD on the radio a total of 4 times since released, all in my car, 2 different stations. It was the clean version, bleeping out "ho*s".
*I heard SS once and it was slightly different in sound and Kehlani's part was taken out, so only MC and Shenseea.
*I think they realized that SS was released too soon and far from album release, so they stopped promo and now trying to buy some time to re-launch the song with a video and remixes. In a recent interview she stated a video and some remixes coming up.
*Either the 3rd single gotta have WBT status, to be a ballad, or it has to be a hit club banger, for the outside world of lambs to wanna buy her new album, just my opinion.
*I kind of don't want the 3rd single to be the title track. From what it sounded to me was similar to Portrait and as much as that song is a favorite, it's not single worthy.
*The top producers recent list is for the 21st century, so while I can agree that MC should definitely be above some other artists mentioned, I feel her placement on that list for this century is fine. I'm just happy they even considered her.
*It was stated that her duet with AP will have a 70s groove to it, which makes me think it'll have similar vibes to Silk Sonic's sound. That might be a hit.
*Also hoping she would later on release the PM cover and it's "Dear Boy".
*Hopefully she releases something this Friday, whether it's the tracklist, a video or the remixes.
*Her BBC and Pitchfork interviews were nice to watch, her energy was up. I also enjoyed her breaking down some of her music videos and on Capitol FM interview, when she played "Bored Now". I think she liked having control of the interview lol. I absolutely love Alan Carr's interview but this one was a bit cringe. I feel like she would've relaxed and been more into it if he hadn't made it weird with the vulgarity. I get that's how his show is and she's been there before but she's older now, times have also changed. She's a seasoned, classy woman. Like someone mentioned here before, I think she was most comfortable with those type of things during the Nick era and that's understandable.
*Robert, what are your predictions for this upcoming Friday?

You aren't wrong. Beyoncé is overrated and I don't know why there's still such a hype. It can't be because of the music only. Someone wrote here, she has a great management and image. I loved her music when she's was with Destiny's Child. That was perfect produced late 90ies RNB. Every song a hit and radio friendly. But as a solo artist, there's nothing really special. That "Texas" song was cool but so many Grammys? It's not fair. But maybe it's because she's such a beautiful woman and good dancer, so it's enough for the people to get entertained. Compared to Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Glady's Knight, these are the vocal queens beside Mariah. Sade is another great female singer. Her tone is beautiful and so relaxed.
