Taylor (106,295) by Tony Lorenzo from UK
Who has the audacity to put Taylor Swift in the same sentence as Mariah Carey? Cease and desist. They are not in the same league. Mariah changed music, and is her own genre that people then copied. Vocally let's not even go there because even saying Taylor could never elevates Taylor to a height she does not deserve by mere comparison. It's laughable to refer to them together in any capacity.

Article: Mariah's residency is a retrospective, and a gift to fans (106,294) by Tony Lorenzo from UK
A wonderful review for our queen. Mariah, if you're reading this, we are begging for another album. You aint finished yet. We love retrospectiveriah, but you've got much more new music in you. As the soundtrack to our lives, we need more. Perhaps an album of jazz covers with a few original tracks? That'd be wow.

I guess should agree and join you Shezz and Mimi. Listening to You're Mine, Triumphant remixes and some JD remixes made think that MC has really had marvelous career. What more does she really have to prove she is the G.O.A.T.?

Mimi L. I couldn't agree more. No more huge eras from her for sure. She has done what she wanted to. You can tell there's been a major change in her since Caution. We don't know what's going on, I doubt we ever will but I'm happy she's still there in whatever capacity she is and she hasn't retired.

I'm happy I saw her live at the Caution tour. She was animated, happy and full of life. I could barely tell when she was lipping from the audience but she did sing a beautiful snippet of "Slipping Away".

I strongly believe that she will release the projects she's been working on. Either one or two or all of the ones she's been talking about since covid, anybody's guess.

I'm also not really interested in a gospel, jazz or SUD to be honest.

I just hope we get Rarities 2 and one more new album. Then I'll be content. As much as I love Caution and feel like it is a great body of work, something (some spark) just seems missing from it. Also, I know many of you won't like to hear this, but I'm not interested in Mariah making a duet album, gospel or Jazz album. I dream for her to make a modern pop/rnb album in the vain of Daydream/EMC=2, with one WBT type power ballad. One has a right to dream.

I really like Taylor Swift (mostly because she's one of the few artists, other than Mariah, who writes her own music). But I do have to admit other than a few songs on her new album, everything since Evermore was released, sounds like one long note or song.

Something deep down inside of me wants that new album experience again. You know when we hear MC has a new album coming out and all of the excitement that goes along with it. I just need to experience that one more time. MC settled into her legend status way too soon for me.

I've come to accept that Mariah won't have another big era. Let alone anything remotely close to TEOM. She no longer has the drive or hunger to prove herself and that's not bashing her, it's just the circumstance. Back then she had the fire because she was still young and people had written her off and disposed of her all because her ex husband decided to be messy. She had to reclaim her throne. Now she's settled into her legend status, she has her 2 babies, she is earning a lot from touring. She has nothing left to prove so she won't go as hard. Plus the promo aspect. Nowadays promo is everything. People have short attention spans and you gotta really set yourself apart by doing creative promo and I don't think Mariah has that team. In fact we don't known who her team is. Even her social media is not at the level of someone of her status. I was living in delulu land for a while hoping for one last hurrah haha but I think I have now accepted this is the new reality of icon. If she does prove me wrong I would be the happiest but I doubt it. I just hope she's mentally in a good space and we get the chance to enjoy some new material when she's ready. Whether it's an album or collabs.

I have never understood the Swift obsession, she barley sings (it's almost all sing-talking), she's a bully, and the definition of rich kid who's parents could buy her a career, she never gets called out of her white privilege. New York Times had an article about Taylor Swift fatigue and it had this great line: "Indeed, grinding through the 31-song double album after midnight had felt like a hostage situation." I couldn't have said it better myself. Lol.

It has been a great discussion this week about Taylor and insight into this whole Swifty phenonenon. We can't deny Taylor is riding high off roads paved from our true trailblazer and trendsetter MC. I am really ready for Mimi to comeback one last time with her most successful album since TEOM. I know she has at least one more left in her. Where are you Mike Will Made It? Mimi needs you again.

Hahaha you know being a lamb I pay extra attention to lyrics. Yes, I know the interview you are talking about, it was a few years back when her career was going through a decline. I agree most artists try to maximize their gains at their peak and yes Mariah used to release albums almost every year for the first 5 years and every 2-3 years after that, but no artist released as much as Taylor did in the last 2 years. 2 re-recordings, 2 new albums and a tour. Also hard launching her relation with Kelce haha. I'm reading many articles where people are saying it's too much too soon.

Haha Mimi L has been paying attention to Taylor's lyrics. To be honest I quite liked Folklore and Evermore. Midnights grew on me. All the songs on this album are pleasant but tend to blur into one long two hour song.

I read an interview of her's (Taylor) recently where she said she knows her years are numbered now that she's crossed 30 and she wants to work as hard as possible and create as much music as she can while she's still popular. I didn't quite know how to feel about that. On one hand I appreciated her awareness, on the other hand I felt like she's making herself into the fast food equivalent of music. Of course every artist wants success and thrives on it but it felt like commercial success is paramount to her before all.

Which then lead me to think this was Mariah in the 90s. She created the most albums, most regularly while she was commercially successful. When they stopped selling as much, she slowed down majorly. I suppose that's human nature (and business).

She needs a solid pop/r'n'b up tempo song (or 2) - like Fantasy and Honey with chorus that can't be forgotten in 20 minutes. And it has to be released right before summer or early summer to have that impact all over the world.

Same boat. I won't lie. I enjoy a few of her songs and I do think she's talented but her PR team and fans put her on this god like pedestal which is too much. I feel like her material is the same as when she was 16 only with a more polished writing. I find it amazing how she continues to bash people and no one bats an eye. In the new album she again brings up Kim K and says her mom wished Kim was dead and I thought wow imagine if someone said that about her. Same with her bashing Matty Healy (that guy from what I have seen is a thorough mess) but at the same time she is lashing out at her fans for being shocked about his relationship with her, asking them to stop "bitching and moaning" and calling them names. She knows her songs send her fans in a frenzy to go attack her exes and she makes sure they know which ex she's talking about by putting specific clues in her songs and then pretending to be shocked when they decode it. She talks multiple times about cheating on her partners but then is pissed when her partner does the same to her and her fans also just causally forget that she is also doing something wrong. Anyways I just find it funny how she does things to others that she claims she's the victim of.

The entertainment industry isn't too forgiving of female stars after a certain point. Think about it, few years back Rihanna was at this high where we were scared she's about to overtake Mariah's record of #1's and now it seems like music is the farthest thing on her mind and she's enjoying her down time. Beyoncé too has lost some of her impact, she's still big but not the same as before. Look at Ariana, she was churning out hit after hit and her current album almost vanished into thin air. She's one of the biggest streaming artist so her latest stats were disappointing for her. When you over saturate yourself on the public eye for so long it leads to them losing interest after a point.

MC just needs to release a fire album to get recognized by the music industry. She doesn't write the brilliant songs like she used too. If she would find songwriting partners like Madicin (Kenny Lattimore) or Daryl Simmons (Never Forget You) and write some R&B slow jams and love songs, then she would get back on top of the charts. What is it going to take for MC to get back to those brilliant songs?

Didn't Whitney cuss out a fan for asking for an autograph? Didn't Aretha Franklin threw shade with the best of them? Both were bigger divas than Mariah. Nobody complained when they were inducted. But then again, they were Clive's girls.

They will induct her eventually. I have a feeling that they are just using her for social media engagements for now, lol.

People who say they didn't give it to her because they do not respect her are being over-dramatic and irrational again, but what else is new.

They nominated her which means they respect her, she just didn't make the final cut, which means I'm pretty sure they will eventually. When, who really cares?

It's really not that big a deal. I don't think that at this stage she should run her career to please them and forever trying to measure up. She's already got all of them. She's got the songwriter HOF which I'm sure is more important for her. That's what really separates herself from many of the greats.

This is not a shade at all, but I'm just being real. I never really got the whole Taylor Swift thing, I can barely listen to a few songs. I can't really point to a specific reason why. We have hit a point where music is disposable, almost to the point of just reading their diary. Releasing an album with 31 songs and many artists are doing this because that's how the charts work. Nicky Minaj and Drake have been doing this as well. Again, not a shade, just being real. We love everybody.

Possibly. But there is not another up and coming female pop artist who can take her place right now. I think she has at least 10 more years of a popularity high. Don't let her star in a major movie with a hit soundtrack. That would add five more years. Lol.

Why should I respect an artist who has ride on other artists' coattails to succeed? You can take away Diddy, Dr.Dre, and the other collaborators, and see what happens. Then again, it could be jealousy on the part of the voters. Everything that she does gets crazy coverage in the press. Therefore, they resent her for it. I would resent it too, if my ceremony got worse ratings than a MC Christmas special.
