I think it'd be cool for Mariah to host a challenge of getting her fans to name her next album. Just maybe for engagement.

Whack and [clichéd] version of Alicia Key's "Songs in A Minor". Just [no] please. I want a one or two word title that speaks volumes without saying much, but reflective of where she is at currently in her life. She's got this love and glow that has been missing since the early 90's and I want the album title, its artwork and content to reflect this clearly. I trust and know she would come up with something excellent.

The enunciation is definitely lacking with Ariana. Most times she's mumbling followed by a run or high note. Mariah is the the whole artistry package.

Honestly, I really don't care for her singing. She lacks precision, and everything is just merged/slurred and glides together all the time, and then there's that diction problem. Ariana has a pleasant tone but needs to know that in professional singing, intent and clarity is key. Staccato, crisp and intentional phrasing while singing with effort is what makes professional singing, not this karaoke slurred mess she always seems to conjure up. That's the difference between her and Mariah Carey, well one of the many differences.

by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Haha well the 2 I read didn't really have anything to do with the plot. One was the protagonist talking about AIW being played everywhere (it was set around holidays) and said something like "All I want for Christmas starts playing with Mariah singing about what she wants for Christmas". The other one had AIW start playing during a school holiday event and the protagonist and her friend gets excited and runs to the dance floor and later when the boyfriend talks about how happy she looked she's like "it's Mariah Carey ofcourse I was happy". Both books by different writers.

AIW in psychological thrillers (104,840)
by Andrew from the UK

I do recall reading an Armistead Maupin novel many, many, many, years ago, called "The Night Listener" wherein someone in a mental health institution believed himself to be Mariah Carey. It is the only literary reference to MC that I've ever come across.
There's a joke about Bobby-A here somewhere but I'll skip over it. Personal growth, and all that.
Also, please do not imagine I'm suggesting anybody read "The Night Listener". Like "Tales of the City" it was bloody awful.
Can you provide context for the Christmas song being featured in a psychological thriller? Or shall we, like my father's love, just skip over it and move on?

You're pitching a singer against a vocalist. Mariah Carey is a vocalist. Ariana Grande is a singer. Plus, when I say "Mariah Carey" I don't feel like I'm ordering a coffee.

This is the "leak" I was talking about. Ariana has an amazing voice and is talented for sure but I think she lacks something Mariah has. Mariah has that unique X factor to her voice and because of the fact that she writes her own songs, Mariah's songs have the raw personal feel something I don't find from Ariana. Also for the whistles Ariana uses it just because she can, Mariah uses it more artistically, she uses it like background music, she uses it to express emotions, she uses it for words (like the on and on for "Bliss"). Mariah beautiful incorporates her whistles. Mariah has that distinct raspy and buttery voice too that feels so raw and full of emotions. That's why she's often imitated never duplicated.

Okay, so that made me laugh but not more so than your reading psychological thrillers with All I Want For Christmas Is You featured therein.
My all-time favourite film is The Silence of the Lambs. I can't for the life of me imagine Clarice consulting with Hannibal Lecter in an effort to find a pseudo-transsexual serial killer then hopping into her car, popping on the radio, and head bobbing to the beat whilst singing "Santa won't you bring me the one I really need."

Abbreviated abbreviations (104,837)
by Andrew from the UK
| |
|
|
Why do people insist on abbreviating song titles? Mariah Carey has several hundred songs and remixes: for the sake of you saving a few precious seconds must everyone else spend a while trying to guess what it is you’re referring to? You have opposable thumbs - use them?
And if AIW is the abbreviated abbreviation of All I Want For Christmas Is You, in order to shave off precious typing seconds I insist that Always Be My Baby is now AB, Anytime You Need A Friend is AY, and Almost Home is A.

MC sung at the Saadiyat Festival in UAE yesterday. There are videos on X of her singing LTT and ITC. I have always thought ITC was the beginning of MC writing cheesy and silly lyrics. I love the beat and the MJ sample, but I think the lyrics are on list of some her worst lyrics. I don't think she will write those type lyrics ever again because of the lukewarm reception to "Corny like Fritos" from Infinity. Don't you agree, Bill? Lol. And thanks for commenting on my picture.

I actually enjoy ITC. Do I reach for it often? No, but I do like the song. I think it's a fun carefree song and whenever it comes on I usually don't skip. Infinity had some really clever lyrics but just something about the song didn't connect with me but I do enjoy the fun lyrics, I just hardly ever listen to it.

Wasn't there some type of label turmoil during the recording and rollout of MIAM? MC wanted a Beyonce type of digital release while IDJ wanted a traditional release with pre-orders. IDJ executives were unhappy with the performance of Memoirs and MC's delayed completion of MIAM. They were just ready to be done with MC knowing that MIAM would fulfill her contractual obligations to the label. The executives now are probably concerned that MC30 doesn't have fan interest for any IDJ MC30 releases. I am surprised that It's A Wrap got a vinyl release last year. MC probably financed the release herself. She only had one hit album during her time with IDJ. Charmbraclet, E=MC2, and MIAM were all commercial disappointments. RCA will probably not allow Yours ft. Justin Timberlake to be released. Angels Advocate and Jumpsmokers Remix albums have been leaked online. MIAM leftover tracks are probably nonexistent. The question in 2024 is what label is going to sign MC to release MC16.

"AIW in psychological thrillers"? Woe betide anyone not to know what a Mariah Carey song abbreviation is. Especially in relation to psychological thrillers. I immediately thought "As It Was" by Harry Styles.
I recall one of Martyn's last posts was protestation at lambs and fans on the board abbreviating song titles - forcing him to undergo surgical extraction of Mariah's entire catalogue from his brain. Okay, maybe the metaphor is mine but the point remains: what the bloody hell is AIW?

And that's why I don't refer to MIAM as a whole album a mess. Even when an album as a whole isn't a favorite of mine, I'm always grateful it was released because of those songs I loved. The label dropped the ball but I'll give MC a break on this one. I won't begin to speculate what the breakdown of her marriage did to her emotionally. Divorce is tough no matter who you are.

I love me some Eddie. But how can something of which there are rumours be a surprise?
Stacey is correct using the word "mess" but it should refer to the entire project. Everything about it was created or handled in a fashion unbecoming a supposed international superstar. That being said, there are some great melodies and vocals on MIAM.
Personally, I believe Triumphant Pulse Remix, Almost Home, The Art of Letting Go and You Don't Know To Do are pretty special. I encourage Mariah to make her next record an upbeat dance record. Don't nobody need another Cautionary tale that will disappear in a fraction of the time it takes to create.
