I owe Mariah's earpiece an apology (102,142) by Will from England
So I think they used those big box monitor speakers to play back the music that they still put out on stage, but not sure if they still use them or not. Even Micheal Jackson hated using the earpieces and fiddled with them as they felt like a fist in your ear, as he said during that This Is It documentary. I think even Mariah mentioned that she didn't like using them and only really started using them during TAOM tour, I've never seen her use them before then. I don't think that they're very comfortable pieces of equipment, as they are moulded to fit into your ear exactly, so that they're ultra noise cancelling so the artist can hear a click track/whatever part of the track you want to hear vs your own voice (hence why she says "turn me up a bit"/backstage comms/whatever. Back then in the 60s/70s, was it a thing to do huge stadium tours as is so common now? Also, the nature of people seeing shows has changed, as my dad regularly tells me, you would go to a show and you'd be quiet so you could hear the performance, not screaming all throughout as is most common now - that's why some artists get so thrown off by the Japanese/Asian fans during shows as they're most silent as a mark of respect.

Rarities re-release (102,141) by Bobby A from United States
It is already sold-out. Wow. MC and her team must be testing the demand for another 4LP vinyl set similar to the The Rarities. Maybe Memoirs/Angels Advocate/Jumpsmokers or Daydream/Someone's Ugly Daughter this Fall.

I owe Mariah's earpiece an apology (102,140) by Lee from UK
I always thought that the constant fiddling with the ear pieces was Mariah's way of giving a signal to the sound engineer. It seems to me that every time Mariah touches either ear piece, the pre-recorded vocals kick in.

Mariah never really did the whole earpiece touching until she began using pre-recorded vocals. She would often stick a finger in her ear when hitting a high note, but that was done in a way that made you believe she needed to hear herself better.

There was none of this daft shaking of the head during whistle notes back in the day either. Mariah shakes her head when lip syncing along to whistle notes because she doesn't know one performance to the next which pre-recorded version of the whistle she is using. It is like she thinks that by shaking her head, we won't notice if she messes up. But we do. I love it when she misses the onset of a whistle note and forgets to pretend to sing it.

I also think it's her "darkest" album moodwise. I wouldn't recommend this one for non-fans too. It's very special.

I knew [The Roof] performance, but yeah it's really cool. Mariah's little dance moves were so cool and sexy during that tour. Her aura was stunning, she could have melt an iceberg. A diva and superstar but at the same time approachable.

I like The Dream and loved My Love but would never recommend this album to a non-lamb. Very depressing, sans Obsessed. She was obviously in a dark place. I did love seeing her promote it on the today show upon its release, though. The whole album's tone can be set by the Betcha Gon Know intro. You see, Caution is a "mood" album. Memoirs is a "moody" album. Big diff.

Ruined her instrument in 8 years? She should've never been touring. The rasp (which I like when accessed appropriately, a la If Only You Knew) always occur when fatigued.

Music Box tour was worse than some of these performances.

It's all fatigue. For example, her whistles are thin (not "airy") due to this, hence why she's likely to produce a fuller sound in the following weeks.

That's not to say he voice didn't mature during this time. Letterman Butterfly is an example of a beautiful albeit strained voice. But her voice has also matured several instances, both earlier and later in her career.

Sadly, one of the most signature parts of her voice, the head voice, seems gone. But still strong in earlier eras.

Rarities re-release (102,133) by Bobby A from United States
It is just a reissue with no new tracks, but at a higher price of $94.00. The original release was $55.00. I suppose that she is doing this because the original release sold out really quickly October 2020 and it is going for $100 and up on Ebay.

Does anyone know if this will have added tracks to it or if it's the same tracks as the original release? The article I read wasn't quite clear on that point. Thanks.

You can hear her voice very clear in these clips, it's a very clear recording. Unfortunately, one can also hear how damaged her voice was even then (1998). How did you manage to fry your instrument in just 8 years? She's really struggling vocally especially on "My All" the incessant scratches one can hear and the whistle notes in "Emotions" are very weak and airy and almost not even picked up by the [microphone]. I don't know what Mariah's problem is, but one would think that developing nodules would've gotten her serious about the technical aspects of singing, how they came to be, what she did wrong and how to remedy the situation because any trained and qualified vocal coach would let you know. Instead she adjusted her singing style and the way she pronounced words going from rounded glossed vowel sounds, to a jarring unpleasant strained sound, adding even more pressure and kept on managing the situation. It's so unfortunate how she had this glorious instrument and just totally ruined it, literally threw it away.

Kalispéra Billy, thank you so much for sharing this. My fan heart is so pleased because of the Emotions and My All live version. It's so good. I love the Australia videos from the Butterfly Tour. 90ies Mariah was matchless. I love her speaking voice, the look, everything.

I owe Mariah's earpiece an apology (102,128) by Randy from USA
So the Dubai concert Beyonce did has taken over my TikTok. I noticed one thing. She was singing a note and started fiddling with her ear monitor. I thought that was something only MC did when she knew she sounded bad to fool the audience into thinking she couldn't hear herself and there were technical issues. I will say Beyoncé sounded fine when she was messing with it so maybe she couldn't hear herself. I notice Mariah does it every time she's on television but at any rate, does anyone have any knowledge on this topic? Why do people have to adjust the volume on them? Isn't this what a sound check is for? Why are they necessary at all? What did singers do in the 60s and 70s when they didn't have the option to have them?

New Mariah BGs on Zara Larsson (102,127) by Mariahsbaby from usa
I honestly don't believe her, and I'm hoping Mariah chooses to do other types of charity work. She also made a tweet that the Quentin Tarantino has been bugging her about a music video. And that Leonardo DiCaprio has a small cameo. This girl seriously thinks we believe her. I hope her lies go viral because her music won't. I also won't be supporting her new music or any music she ever releases if she lied.

Memoirs is underrated (102,125) by Edward from USA
Fans didn't pay dust to "The Rarities", her remaining fans supported it. It made it to be #30 on the Billboard Hot 200. The old music was great, but out of the three bonus tracks, only "Lullaby of Birdland" was worthy of being on there. She could've cooked three killer jams for the occasion. The difference in quality between the old and the new material was palpable overall. I actually think it was a missed opportunity for a couple of great collaborations. I replaced "Save the Day" and " Close My Eyes" with "Right to Dream" and " Help Me Make It" respectively.

Breaking the turf wars between classic discographies and Titanic-esque songs that sunk in the ocean. Reportedly and admitted by Zara that Mimi lent her BGVs on her new song. No bashing. Just love. And FYI. As people here loves to ram (lambs with horns) one [another]. Hope [you] guys can catch the pun.

Lambs paid dust to The Rarities just a few years ago which had a few cute gems, while last year she had a global hit with BER which is partly a remix of a catalog, so I kind of get the frustration of putting out new music in this industry landscape. But yes I agree, I think she could still pull some hits if she put her creativity. I mean who would have thought Miley having a comeback. She's been bombing these last few years. I thought she's done, now she's got a massive song.

I just received a fan made CD of all the Memoirs Jumpsmokers remixes that I purchased off Ebay. There is not one bad track on the CD. Finally there is a 4 minutes dance version of Languishing. Randy, you would love it. It's a shame this album was never released back in 2010. Hit me up for the seller information.

"That is the beauty of Mariah's catalog, there's still so much to explore because some of them didn't necessarily explore when they were released initially". Yes of course no one is denying this but fact is she needs to be releasing new songs not trying to make those old songs "happen" so to speak. They're still old songs that didn't get their chance for whatever reason, and the window of opportunity closed. That ship has long sailed and sunk at sea.

I tend to disagree. Lead The Way is my all time favorite ballad that I'm confident she would never sing 100% live. I am though 100% grateful she did at some point and I will that recording until the day I die.

Caution (102,118) by Bobby A from United States
I am just wondering what made satisfying for the Lambs and achieve critically acclaim status from critics. I look back now because I think MC created a new genre of music that I call R&B Fused Neo-Soul. I think that is what MC released to world in 2018. My only disappointment was that singles choices were out of sequence and the absurd instant grats concept. Sounds like a Jay Z idea. A No No should have been released as the official first single over With You. Can you imagine a Junior Vasquez club mix with resung vocals? How many other artists have records executives who screw up single choices? I can't think of any except MC.
