Re: Mariah Carey 1990 debut in Spotify (99,504) (99,511)
by Terna from Nigeria
| |
|
|
This had been on my mind for quite sometime on and off. It is time for those numbers to be updated, The first album especially has been 9x Platinum since the early to mid 2000's that should have crossed well over 10 million by now being that Mariah is still relevant and active even today, about the only act that debuted in 1990 still releasing stuff. I think there should be a push by her team to get RIAA to update her catalogue's numbers, not just the first album.

I always thought Last Chance and Head Over Heels were originally and left overs from Butterfly. Then she changed her mind and gave it to Allure.

Those tracks were probably left off for a reason. I can't imagine making [Butterfly] any longer with leftovers inserted throughout. I would rather prefer a separate Rarities album in which we can listen to individually if the actual parent album from which it originated.

Larrance Dopson (99,508)
by Bobby A from United States
| |

Larrance Dopson is one of the writers on 8th Grade. He co-wrote the mega hit Boo'd Up with Joella James that launched Ella Mai's career. He primarily works with DJ Mustard. I wonder what was his contribution to 8th Grade. Hopefully, MC has reached out to Joella James. She is very good with coming up melodies.

Album re-release (99,507)
by Will from England
| |

I was thinking, what if Mariah re-released her early albums up to Memoirs, but restructure them to have some of the already released songs but also to have some demos and unreleased tracks? It would be a cool way to have her rarities part 2 moment but not have to pick select tracks for just one release. There have been so many songs that she has said didn't make the cut for the final albums, she could do something creative for them.

Why the secrecy (99,506)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Why do you think MC is being so secret this time about what she is releasing this year? I think that there is a new potential recording deal that she is strategizing and she does not want to lose her contract leveraging power before the deal is sealed. I know on Twitter Spaces she has said several times that, "They get upset with me when I say too much." Could she be referring to Melissa and the executives at Range Media? Whatever she is releasing, will be her most anticipated release of her career. I envision a MC16 double album with The Butterfly Lounge or the Rarities 2 as disc 2. I am hoping for new vinyl in her store including Somebody's Ugly Daughter and Glitter. Yeah, what is up with buying a house in Sandy Springs, GA? Which is not Buckhead but close to it. Just my thoughts.

Ummm. She "rehashes" it every time she performs the song. She could leave it behind altogether but she doesn't. She also recently did a Tik Tok using the song dressed as Eminem.

Mariah Carey 1990 debut in Spotify (99,504)
by Horacio from United States
| |
|
|
Does anyone have access to the streaming numbers for each individual song from the debut album? I wanna see how close we are to getting that 10x Platinum (Diamond) RIAA certification.
If Mariah Carey (1990) and Merry Christmas both become Diamond, Mariah would be the only female artist with 4 Diamond RIAA-certified albums.

Well, I'm speculating. MC always said she felt I Am Free had the potential to be a great gospel song, and said she wanted someone from that arena to cover it. The news of her working with the Clarke Sisters, and that this "Butterfly lounge" may be her reworking her old catalogue, is me putting 2 and 2 together. And probably getting 5.

MC chose Sandy Springs with all the rolling hills and quick access Buckhead. She must be planning to work with London Da Track, Missy Elliot, Sean Garrett, Ne-Yo, Zaytoven, and Drumma Boy. It makes sense to move to where they are since flying them in is not the optimal choice right now.

That's absurd. Old trash that doesn't need to be rehashed. It's beyond boring. Are some of you really Mimi fans, or do you just like to remember her trauma and her dealing with her oppressors? Free Brittney and Mimi.

Wow, really! Re listened with that in mind, and it sounds like a Celine cover still. VOL is its own beast. I Am Free is beautiful, but basic. No VOL.

Mimi in new Super Bowl Halftime commercial (99,494)
by T from USA
| |
|

I just saw the trailer for the 2022 Halftime show. It was pretty cool. I imagined how great it would've been if it was Mariah as the female artist in that group. Her scene in the trailer could've been her taking down the Christmas tree and decorations when she gets "the call". A remixed version of Obsessed with Eminem would be the show stopper. If only they would put their egos aside for the good of our entertainment.

I did like it, but my dad once heard me playing it and said it sounded like she was drunk, so now every time I play it I think of that comment and laugh lol. If she's re-imagined this song with the Clarke Sisters though I will die.

Debut: Prisoner Emotions: N/A (already 10) Music Box: N/A Daydream: I am Free and When I Saw You (slows the album down way to much, very ah la Music Box) Butterfly: (this one is way to hard): Whenever you call (because we get a better version on #1s), and argh. Breakdown dare I say (I've always seen Breakdown and Babydoll as sister songs for some reason, and I like Babydoll better.) Yikes this one was hard. Rainbow: How Much, X-Girlfriend, Did I do that, Rainbow Interlude Glitter: If We, Want You Charmbracelet: The One, My Saving Grace, Lullaby, Through the Rain (remix), Sunflowers for Alfred Roy (I'm so sorry Mariah, this is only based on song not on personal meaning.) TEOM: Stay The Night, Get Your Number, Your Girl, To The Floor E=MC2: LS, LK, T4N, Bye Bye (Heat should have made the final version as the opening track to the album, that leads into Migrate, then TMB into I'm That Chick). The "It's Mariahhhh" opening to Heat was perfect given she was the biggest star in the world at the time and it sums up the summer loving hard hitting vibe of the album perfectly. MOAIA: Inseparable, Standing O, More than Just Friends, Languishing (which was a hard choice). The remix of UOMF should have been the album version (would have helped with album sales, given this was Nicki's first Billboard entry). MIAM: Thirsty, Supernatural (again so sorry Mariah, I know it's sentimental), Camouflage, One More Try (even though I love this cover and don't understand the hate, I just like everything else better). Caution: N/A (but the singles should have gone in this order: GTFO, A No No, Caution, The Distance)

I added it back to my workout playlist. I was kind of digging him and hearing Circles always reminded me of what could have been. I wonder if MC feels the same about Boy (I Need You) and what could have been with Camron. Oops, did I say that?

Oh my. Haha. I never, ever (all caps) listen to new Mariah Carey music (or new music in general period) with other folk around for this exact same reason. Distractions and opinions that could marr your own thought process and opinions as they form while you're listening, it can be very annoying. For "The Emancipation of Mimi" I took my time and played that album on my discman first using sound blocking earphones for this reason and boy was I blown away. Then the next day sure enough while playing the record, friends in droves came around and everyone kept chiming in opinions, but I had already formed mine over 24 hours before and was even singing along already. Sorry about your "Circles" bad experience. That's one of the most powerful vocals on that record, give it another chance.
