Re: Bey gets her 28th Grammy (97,587) (97,591) by Stacey from USA
So I just watched MC's Superbowl performance. I thought she lipped it pretty well. What part stood out to you where she messed up? Just curious.

Grammys (97,590) by RL from USA
Awards don't mean a lot. It's just a bunch of establishment elite telling each other how great they are.

Re: Bey gets her 28th Grammy (97,587) (97,589) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
We are linked. I was watching a guy on YouTube react to Mariah singing the US national anthem and genuinely thought she pulled it off until the last moment where she missed the beat. And about five minutes later I read your post. It was a freaky moment.

In re: Beyoncé: I can only name about five of her solo songs. I don't see the appeal in her as an artist. Her songs are forgetful. I could not name one song from Lemonade and the only reason I remember she had an album called Lemonade is because I remember Adele fawning over it when accepting the Record of the Year Grammy for 25. Beyoncé takes herself extremely seriously. Everything she does seems to end with a hand in the hip and a side look as if people should crumble in the presence. When she sang in front of reporters to prove she could sing live and finished it with: "Any questions?" I admired her confidence. I only wish one of the reporters had said: "Yes, why are you over-rated?"

Speaking of people who take themselves too seriously, you mentioned Christina Aguilera who must surely hold the title. In any single album launch Christina talks about it as if it is her personal diary and no, really is it this one, not the last one, that was personal but this is Per. So. Nal. I am sure everyone right now can hear her interviews in her Valley Girl voice: "I think this record really shows who I am as an artist... the most personal record I've ever made... really speaks about who I am inside... shows my fans a part of me they haven't seen before..." and so on and so forth. And every time she goes for a belt she crunches over in what looks like preparation for a tandem vomit and shit. She should one day follow through, then we really would get to see who she is on the inside.

Defamation (97,588) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Hardly surprising that Mariah's brother is suing her for defamation alongside her sister. She made a lot of unfounded allegations in the book. I would be surprised if her mother sued her for calling her a racist because a mother would probably never sue her daughter. I would be very surprised if other people did not sue her, however, including the co-app board of the building where Barbra Streisand was selling the apartment Mariah wanted to buy. They "didn't want black men" in the building, ie. rappers Mariah knew. So either they are racist for which Mariah should have evidence, or if there is no evidence, Mariah is the racist. In fact, there's a hell of lot of unfounded claims in that book and many things to show that Mariah is at worst racist or at best really doesn't like white people.

She wasn't on the list because she sung the National Anthem which is not the same as the half-time main performance. As much as I love her rendition of the National Anthem, her inability to lipsync for her life left her exposed. Everybody thought it was live until... Well, Christina did worse, she screamed like a dying goat and forgot the lyrics, lol.

I think that Beyonce could get a Grammy even if she didn't release an album.

Who knows how many trophies Mariah must have had if the Scammy's jumped on the "trend of the moment" or the "woke moment" a long time ago. smh

The mainstream music media hates Mariah, let's be real. Beyoncé with 30 Grammy awards, Mariah with 5? I do think Whitney Houston has about seven, Celine Dion 5 and Madonna 6. And Beyoncé 30. The Grammy's are as delusionized as the Rolling Stone magazine. I just watched a YouTube clip made by the Rolling Stone where they placed the 10 greatest Super Bowl performances, Mariah wasn't even on the list. Mariah has never earned the respect from critics and will never do. Mariah is a people person, and always will be.

That's hilariious and shows once more that the music industry is dead at the moment. I only remember the song with Jay-Z (her first solo single, which was okay but nothing special), then some radio/chart hits but I wouldn't listen to one song on CD or streaming. I must admit that I really liked Beyoncé while she was with Destiny's Child. That was great RNB. But Beyoncé as a singer is totally overrated for my taste. A beautiful woman but her music doesen't reach me at all (emotionally).

Those are threads that fall out of interest and a constant narrative is lost. That is especially so when every time someone replies to a post there's a hundred lines of thread before each response. Coupled with symbols and characters added in for no reason. I like this board because the militant Dutchman keeps it clean and formal. Even if he still needs to get a little more... fun out of life! There was an ellipsis in that sentence and it ended with an exclamation mark. Let's see what happens. Hold onto your seats. Things are about to get wild.

I'm fine with the current look, for the familiarity of it. If you do decide to change it though: a messageboard with subfolders so it's easy to follow topics would be great to have.

MC must be in the studio this week recording MC 16 as evident in her Biggie picture tweet on March 9. I just hope she takes her time and works with producers and songwriters who can give her a new sound.

Haha, yes I can imagine this too. Lol. "My heart will go on" is and always will be Celine's song and that's good. In 97 Mariah wouldn"t like a song for "Titanic", but I always thought she would have been perfect for a James Bond song.

Re: Rumours (97,569) (97,572) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
My Heart Will Go On was recorded in May or June 1997, I believe, at a time when Mariah was in the middle of recording Butterfly, so she *may* have had the vocal chops to do it. If she had lain down Whenever You Call vocals it would have been epic (no pun intended).

I love Celine and her performance of the song but I feel it's only the last chorus anyone cares about. The first two verses and choruses are incredibly boring save for the tin whistle (if anyone hasn't explored Irish music and dancing you ought to - it's as magical as the island, itself).

I think if Mariah had recorded the song the first two choruses and verses would certainly have had more depth, variation and impact, possibly being less saccharine - with layered vocals and transitions from head to chest by the second verse, at least.

However, Celine is to My Heart Will Go On as Whitney is to I Will Always Love You and Mariah is to All I Want For Christmas Is You and Hero. Certainly, Celine singing Whitney's signature song is an abomination to the ears. I wouldn't want, now, to hear Mariah's version of My Heart even if she were to have recorded it.

From things I read in the past I believe James Horner was originally going with Sissel (whose voice is the Hymn to the Sea harmony - something Mariah could also have done to magical effect in the soundtrack) but felt like he owed the legend that was and is Rene Angelil for their loyalty on previous film soundtracks. I am, also, not sure, Mariah would wanted to have recorded it. And given the vocal difficulties Mariah fell into after the recording of Butterfly it is probably best she didn't.

In any case, My Heart Will Go On is a brilliant composition. I loved it so much that it is one of the few pop songs I taught myself to play properly on the piano outside of regular piano tuition. Last year I played it on a piano in a busy train station in London and people sang along. It was great. Maybe next time I'll play Hero. It's slightly less embarrassing to admit you know. But only ever so slightly.

Rumours (97,569) by Terna from Nigeria
Could there be any truth to this? I think there's an element of truth to it seeing as these are the same co-writers listed on "Where are You Christmas", another song we know she recorded but could not release.

Re: Tommy Mottola, a monster? (97,554) (97,567) by Mirage_Nunez from America
Tommy just should've never crossed the line of business and started a romantic relationship with Mariah; and played the same role Clive Davis did with Whitney, just being a mentor, guide and protector to a young MC. That would've been more mentally healthy for her in the long run. He gave Mariah the perfect launching pad for her career no doubt, but I believe his overly controlling antics could be the reason why MC went so hard in the opposing direction after their split. Maybe had he not been so ridiculously controlling, Mariah would've displayed more of a balance in certain areas once they split. It's like the kid that grew up in a very strict household once they go to college, break free, and living it up big time.

Overall I think it was a little bit of both: he definitely helped guide her and also stifled some of her organic creativity/musical identity. Remember some of the gems we have is because she had to scheme to have it recorded and released.
