One Night (97,473) by MusicfanJ from Germany
The song gets better and better. It really sounds like the "afterparty" version of "ABMB". The rarities are still giving me pure enjoyment.

Oh gosh, I'm the opposite haha, I love ANN. I thought the word play was funny/cute and I liked the vibe of the song. I still play the original, I wish it had the whistles. "Infinity" on the other hand I haven't played in a while. But regardless yes, I would like Mariah to collaborate with some fresh collaborators whether they are new singers or songwriters to kind of get a fresh sound. I know with the right people Mariah can adapt to their sounds because she literally can do anything musically. All she needs is that inspiration.

Re: Mariah and Cardi interview (97,462) (97,470) by We are lambily from USA
I was so mad over [Cardi B] over that first interaction and how she treated Mariah like some Soundcloud rapper, but then I remember she is real as smurf, even too real. She said she would love to work with Mariah even then, but I believe "she blamed it on timing and wanting to finish her album". The truth was, if Mariah had a better song, she would've jumped on it. And since I'm in a mood of sharing, let me say...

No offence but looking back at the [Caution] album, A No No was truly one of the weakest songs Mariah has ever done, I swear [Infinity] that many love to trash is even better, I haven't played that track willingly over a year, unless I play the whole album and just soak it all in. That rapper Shawni was so promising, the whistles were cute, I love the world play, the songs just sounds really dated. Funny how the songs in the 90s aged better than than the song that is homage to that era and Lil Kim obv.

2. Music Box
3. Emotions
4. Butterfly
5. TEOM
6. Glitter
7. Daydream
8. CB

Re: My ranking of Mariah's albums (97,464) (97,468) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
If the list was a ranking of what albums mean the most to me, then Music Box would be on top. I listened to it every night on cassette in my treasured Sony Walkman. It means the most to me.

And I'll admit it for once and for all. I am at peace with myself, my friends and family know, and now I can finally be honest and open with the world: I. Like. Big. Ballads. Big ones. Big massive smassive ones with strings and bows and cymbals and every syllable stretched out of existence. Even if Mariah doesn't. Music Box got me addicted so she has a lot to answer for. I could have been into Green Day and Nirvana. But nope. Mariah went ahead and gave me Music Box.

This guy is worth a look if you haven't seen him already. He really has an astounding voice, not only singing Mariah but other divas and Disney, also. And he's also good to sing along with as the songs are in a more male-accessible key. His voice is stunning. Check out his version of Blank Page by Christina Aguilera as well. It's enough to make any grown - or young boy - cry.

"I mean, I don't rate Fly Like a Bird, I always skip Underneath the Stars, I can't remember the last time I listened to Make It Happen, and I prefer the original Fantasy over the ODB remix."

Oooh that's fun. Lemme see:

I don't rate: Vanishing
I always skip: My All
I can't remember the last time I listened to: Without You
I prefer the original: Heartbreaker to the remix

Understood, m'lady. My tumultuous relationship with Music Box goes back to 1993 when my mum played it non stop in the house, car and anywhere else she could find a cassette player. At the time I was all about Green Day and Nirvana, and Music Box represented everything I didn't like. At the time. But as my music tastes grew/evolved, and I discovered Mariah's back catalogue, and love it, Music Box remains one of my least favourite albums. I still like it, just not as much as her others. As for the lambs being coerced into liking/disliking certain material, Mariah's personal taste in music (or anybody else's, for that matter) has no bearing on my own - I couldn't care less, to be honest. I mean, I don't rate Fly Like a Bird, I always skip Underneath the Stars, I can't remember the last time I listened to Make It Happen, and I prefer the original Fantasy over the ODB remix.

Yes Music Box is a masterpiece. A solid body of work that oozes quality. Each song has depth and has stood the test of time. Yes it's her most commercial album and I'm not afraid to say it's my favourite too. I remember at the time she was number 1 in U.K. with Without You, the album was number 1 and her home video was number 1. Everyone was talking about Mariah which was weird because I'd been listening to her for a few years at this point. I remember prior to Music Box people would say what music do you like and I'd say Mariah Carey and they'd be like who's that? I used to love it that not many people knew her at the time.

I have so many good memories around that time and the album always takes me to a happy place. If you were to ask most people who remember that album being released they will say that is Mariah at her best. I still get chills listening to that album as for me personally it is the greatest.

Mariah and Cardi Interview (97,462) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Do I smell a song collaboration in the making? At the very end Mariah asks Cardi if they can do a song together, and she says yes. Now I have to say I'm surprised Mariah did this interview especially since last time Mariah was vocal about wanting Cardi to be on the "A No No" remix and then Cardi declined it. And in Mariah's world I would have assumed that would put her in the "I don't know her" box haha. But I'm glad that Mariah still "knows" Cardi. And from what Cardi said, that she sometimes doesn't like meeting celebs she loves because she doesn't want to be hurt by them and have their image tarnished in her mind forever. So it could be that Cardi was quick to decline ANN because she's a Mariah fan. I'm undecided about Cardi. I like her because she's outspoken and confident and doesn't take shit but sometimes I also find her annoying. But I would be here for a song with MC and Cardi, something that is empowering to women.

After reading the memoir, it could easily be about her family. Allison or Morgan or even Pat or all three.

Re: My ranking of Mariah's albums (97,456) (97,460) by Edward from USA
I agree. I remember when she started hating "Hero" and all of a sudden the herd started going with her narrative, saying "Hero" was this and that. Then she convenientely started loving "Hero" again, and the herd did the same. "Almost Home" was a glimmer of hope at her recovering her voice since she sounded so good in it. The song is structured in a way that anybody could've been fooled she wrote it, and then she said she didn't like it either. Guess what happened? the herd once again followed through. I actually enjoyed Caution a lot, but to rank it in her top 7 albums is beyond believe to me. But then again, that's me. At this point, I do really want to hear Mariah belt again, even if it's only in the studio on tracks she won't ever sing live. She's been doing that for a long time anyway.

Re: Languishing Interlude (97,451) (97,459) by T from USA
The can't breathe imagery sure fits the Tommy theme but unless it was a song she started in the 1990's, I can't see where she was at in her life by 2009 to be going back singing a song about Tommy. I know she did in 2008, but that was more of an empowering song and a lot happened a year later as in marriage to a new husband. Why would she be wondering or needing Tommy's support in 2009?

Re: My ranking of Mariah's albums (97,440) (97,456) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
It's m'lady to you, Australia. I accept your reasoning for not liking Music Box if it is a deeply held conviction. However, I sometimes get the feelings that lambs online spurt forth anything they think Mariah will agree with or which makes them look like a better lamb than others. As an example: Purposefully saying they don't like Music Box because it is the most commercially successful and/or because Mariah doesn't praise it or talk about it all that much. I am forced to agree with Jamie that Music Box is a fantastic album and am humoured to a smirk if not a grin when I remind myself that "cohesive body of work" is a favourite fan trope that could and would easily be applied to Music Box - but isn't, probably because it's just not cool to do so and/or Music Box needs no defending as it is one of the most successful albums of all time.

This general argument could be flipped on its head and equally apply to Caution. It is nowhere near as good as the rest of her records vocally or sonically but it slightly fares better in critical reception and is cited as such by Mariah. Thus, if someone, say... the webmaster... were to comment about how people who practically masturbated over the album upon its release weren't out supporting it, said people might start frantically posting lists with Caution either at the top or very near it. I can't help but think there is a lot of invading cynicism.

Music Box is undeniably brilliant. It is Mariah's most accessible album having mass appeal and songs of a sound that have stood the test of time. With the exception of GTFO and With You I don't think anyone will be talking about Caution in a few years. It's all rather a dull affair.

I think Mariah needs to move once again to a more accessible sound with a more crafted and simpler production. I feel like Mariah has spent the best part of two decades trying to prove how clever she is as a composer, with sample + cut and paste vocals + complicated vocal layers in the background + different melody for second verse + witty kitchen sink lyrics + octave jump screech at the end. She has proved that she can do that but I think she should do something else now.

I've been listening to Madonna's 80s and 90's ballads this week as I caught Live To Tell on the radio and also some of Madonna's newer stuff like Girl Gone Wild. I think one of the reasons that Madonna is successful is the simplicity of a lot of her songs. Even Ray of Light isn't that overly complicated.

I think Mariah is too stuck in her ways trying to win the respect of her peers to change but I am certain not many people want to buy what she is selling, anymore. But there are certainly a few enablers who will say it's the best thing ever for as long as Mariah does.

5.Emotions
6.Musicbox
7.Caution

I tried and I failed lol! I could not resist sharing my own list as if anyone cares. Like Bill, I love rankings that's why I was obsessed with Billboard Charts, radio countdowns, and Mariah's single. Well, let me be happy just seeing it here. As mentioned in my previous post, Butterfly will always be on top. Hey! It's her magnum opus and kind of like her signature/identity album.
1. Butterfly
2. Daydream
3. Music Box
4. The Emancipation of Mimi
5. Glitter
6. Mariah Carey
7. Caution
8. E=MC2
9. Rainbow
10. Emotions
11. Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel
12. Charmbracelet
13. Me I Am Mariah The Elusive Chanteuse
Similar to others, I am leaving out the two holiday collections and the compilation albums. A lot of lambs like MIAMTEC, especially the younger and later fans of her. As a 90's baby, I honestly cannot relate much to this album. It's the reason why it is at bottom. Caution and MOAIA are her most cohesive works. The former suffer from her fading popularity and the latter suffer from wrong singles released like E=MC2.

6. MIAM
7. Mariah Carey
8. Glitter
9. Emotions
10. Rainbow
11. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel
12. Music Box
13. Charmbracelet

Butterfly will always be my number one - if nothing else, for the songwriting and narration alone. Mariah really developed her craft here. Daydream follows for vocals and as a subtle lead into a more urban, adult sound.

I love Caution era. A total mood album. Thematically, so cohesive. Give me The Distance, and you can keep all of Memoirs.

And I love the E era party vibes. Love upbeat Mariah. I prefer her having fun versus waning over a lover on top of a slow arrangement.

Rainbow would be higher if asked years ago, but in my opinion, songs like X Girlfriend and How Much really haven't aged well. Also feels choppy. She clearly recorded it quickly and wanted out from the label.

Never really liked Charmbracelet - sorry. Love performances of Through the Rain but her diction is poor on the album and I feel like she kept reaching but never achieved a smash hook.

Now just realizing I'm partial to the newer part of her catalogue, though Music Box was one of my first cassettes ever.

This is one of my faves on MOAIA and I have always wondered who MC is singing it to. Obviously it's one of those personal songs she does hat that we all love. I'm thinking maybe it's Tommy?
