Out here on my own (95,613)

"Out here on my own" I do not understand why this brilliance was tucked away for so long. However better to receive, then get nothing at all. This is how a cover song should be done. Mariah gave power, vulnerability, and full voice. This was beautiful, and raw. All I can say is Mariah [you're] truly one of a kind. This cover is another special one, she paid homage, and still made it her own and damn it she took to another level like only Mariah can. This is the brilliance that makes Mariah, and her talent unmatched.

This is a really great cover, and I am not surprised that it was recorded for "All That Glitters". It fits perfectly with the theme of the film. This is just another indication of how watered down the final product became from what Mariah and Cheryl West originally envisioned. She really worked hard on this project for so many years, and I can't imagine how humiliating it must have been to go through the motions of promoting the watered down "Glitter" film and soundtrack in 2001. Really interested to read all about what happened in the memoir.
Hopefully she is planning something interesting for the 20th anniversary of "Glitter". I really would love to hear that collaboration with Prince and a studio version of "Lillie's Blues".

Gut wrenching and so powerfully beautiful like only Mariah can do. I guess they decided they didn't want Billie to sing an already famous 80's song as if it was her's. I don't know if I'm explaining myself properly. I'd still love to know why it was kept off the soundtrack, would have been a closer to rival EFA for sure. I wonder if she and the label would be willing to promote a song recorded 20 years ago.

I must have listened to this at least 50 times. It has always been one of my favourite songs, but the way Mariah does it - it's utterly spellbinding. Good work MC.

I feel the same. The song is from the 80s, M recorded it in 2000 and it fits perfectly with Billie's storyline.

Out Here on My Own has truly exceed any expectation I've had for a new single of hers in the past 15 years. I have it playing on loop
There are moments where it reminds me of Help Me Make it Through The Night. It's so beautifully executed in a simple and evocative way and tone. It proves less is more.
I'm not really caring about the charts with this song. I'm just thankful it's available to us.

Mariah's insta story (95,604)
by Bill from the UK

Okay so Mariah uploaded a clip on her Insta story for Out Here On My Own showing the master tape sleeve. There's a song called "So, it's just the way", which I assume ended up being "Want You", but there are also two redacted tracks. Mariah this is cruel lol. If there is more songs from Glitter please put them out. Especially the rumoured Prince duet.

I loved the snippet, but the full version is absolutely beautiful. How has this been locked up for 20 years? It is beyond belief. Mariah sings it wonderfully, such passion. Was this meant for Glitter do we think? This would have been an incredible album closer if it was.

"Out here on my own" is the kind of music Mariah should be making consistently. Great melody. Relatable lyrics. Gorgeous vocals. Not overthought. Not overproduced. Not over layered. An absolutely gorgeous track, and the best I've heard from Mariah in a long, long time. She should trust her writing instincts more and keep it simple.

Just heard this on Spotify. It does not disappoint. Such a beautiful vocal. Rich in tone, sung in full voice in her mid range. I love that it's in 2000 and has Mariah listed as the sole producer. The Rainbow era may have lacked high belts, but she made up for it by giving us a lot of tone. Excited for the album and book now. This song gives you the feels from beginning to end. The whole thing is a journey. I could hear this on the radio if the label is willing to give it a radio budget and put money behind promoting the record. She needs a video of a little Mariah performing this in a talent show. I feel like she is telling a story on how the songs are being released. First STD, and now On My Own. Today's artists don't do this.

I've actually never heard the original so hearing Mariah's version will be completely new to me. Thanks for sharing Terna, it wasn't one of the ones off The Rarities I've been waiting for but now I'm looking forward to hearing it very very soon.

Out Here snippet (95,599)
by Lainsky from Philippines

Goosebumps and excitement were the feelings I got upon hearing the snippet of this song. How much more the entire song. I believe her rendition will sound like this is her song similar to what she did with WY, IBT, OA, and ISB. Hoping that this cover of Irene Cara's original will become Mariah's certified hit this year. For the sake of MC30 oh dear Lord please. It's 18th already here so in a a few hours it will be out here for all us.

What if (95,597)

I was just listening to Irene Cara's version of OHOMO. Wouldn't it be amazing after 25 years if MC wins several Grammys for The Rarities? Can a compilation album of previously released songs and new songs be nominated for a Grammy? I think so because MJ's History was nominated for Album of The Year in 1995. I am really excited for next week Lambs.

Randy no need to come off so defensive, and my point was not to school anyone. I was correcting you on something in terms of the song Babydoll. Yes Mariah, and Missy co-wrote the song together, however Timbaland had no part of the song The production of the song was created by Stevie J along with MC, and Corey Rooney.

"Oh wow, so she did. Excellent. I can't believe the memoir is so close now. I've actually booked time off work to read it and listen to the new album haha. I am beyond excited."
I have said it before and I shall say it again. William, I often think of you in different ways but of this I am certain: I hope one day someone loves me the way you love Mariah Carey.
I genuinely wish you a lifetime of Mariah happiness. The world would not be half as interesting without the bona fide stans.

This is angelic. Was it MJB that said that you can hear God in Mariah's voice? This was so true. Only 15 sec of Mariah singing and I'm ready to shed a tear on this song.
