Re: Can't Let Go live (94,771) (94,786) by Bill from the UK
You know it took me a long time to get into Can't Let Go. Partly because I felt it was a bit of a damp ending to Unplugged following the showstopper of I'll Be There, so I always used to skip it on that album. And with Emotions, I love Make It Happen so much I used to skip Can't Let Go to get to it quicker lol. But, as time has gone by, I have realised it is actually one of the best things she's ever done. The bridge is out of this world, the desperation in her voice when she sings "still you remain on my mind" and goes into the key change is brilliant. She's never really done anything like it sonically ever since. At the less said about Can't Say No the better.

Yes I think they've updated the existing ones as the view count hasn't been reset or anything. They look great, shame she hasn't done it for the debut videos. I know she hates them but we all love them, especially Someday.

Re: Emotions live in TOTP (94,782) (94,784) by Bill from the UK
Yes I agree. I love the Unplugged album and I'll Be There dearly, but I always felt like Emotions had more mileage left in it. And You Don't Remember was planned as the fourth single, and would have sounded great on the radio. I really, really hope we get this Can You Hear Me track. The fact it is on a mastering tape (as per the pic MC teased) indicates it was recorded and finished, but for whatever reason didn't make it onto the album. Emotions is such a brilliant album, I play it all the time. Might go spin it now actually.

He says his name is William, but I'm sure it's Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy.

Oh wow I've never heard her sound like that. She can barely speak. She still looks good though love the hair. So cool Can't Let Go didn't even have a video yet, love hearing stuff like that. Yeah I loved that she switched up the song during the performance, she's amazing, do wish she did more of that. I hope there's more goodies from the Emotions era, especially since I feel like it was cut short already.

Things to note (94,781) by Will from Australia
Canada's Drag Race (RuPaul's) played the Snatch Game (impersonations) this week and one of them was Mariah, and it was a car crash. She looked pretty as Christmas Mariah but had zero of her traits and Mariah-isms and it was just difficult to watch.

Was interesting that the judges description of what Mariah is, was all boobs and whatever and that she's hard to make funny. Poor Mariah, the public seem still stuck in her nightmare era persona.

On a side note, I'm delighted Mariah released the live versions of Make It Happen but who in the hell authorised the VH1 to follow directly after the Maddison Square Garden live version. You can really notice the vocal decline.

Walter (94,780) by Gee from U.S.A. (New York City)
As far as Walter is concerned, whatever transpired between them only they know. Honestly I have accepted that MC doesn’t want to work with him anymore. They have created some great music together there is no denying that, however I can understand that they both of them have moved on, and have decided to leave their musical partnership behind. For those who are hoping for a reunion I strongly doubt it, but you can always listen to the music they created in the past. I am sure that she will talk about what happened between them in the memoir because their musical partnership is a part of her career.

Re: Emotions live in TOTP (94,775) (94,779) by Bill from the UK
I love this performance as well. She did an interview at the time whilst in the UK and you can tell she was super sick, which is why she took the song down about 2 octaves. But I love the imperfections so much. It shows what an intelligent singer she is, that she can completely switch up the arrangement and still give a great performance.

Re: Walter live videos on instagram (94,773) (94,778) by Bill from the UK
I love the Mariah/Walter collabs as much as anybody, but I'd be super keen for her to work with Ben Margulies again. Each song they composed together had a completely different feel from the previous one. With Walter she more or less stayed in the same gear, bar a couple of exceptions.

I have the EU Maxi single and, to my ear, it is the same remix. Would be good to have another opinion though. Not heard about the shorter Club No. 1 Mix. Will need to look into that one.

I did miss that. Did they just update the ones that were already on there?

Emotions live in TOTP (94,775) by enwar00 from usa
I've never seen this performance before but stumbled on it looking for the new remastered videos. Sounds very different hearing her some the songs much lower throughout and I like it. Always nice to hear something new.

Re: Womp, womp (94,768) (94,774) by cBerr from Canada
That could very well be the case, but unfortunately I do not have the EU Maxi-Single with contains the version labelled (C+C Club Mix - 5:48). If anyone does and can verify they are one-in-the-same, I will stand corrected.

Also, I know that Discogs list a test press vinyl which contains the C+C Dub-Dub Mix plus a shorter version of the C+C Club No. 1 Mix (with a run time of 7:14).

Exactly. Whatever transpired between them it probably took two to tangle. But no one can discount the chemistry. And if you’re a true fan of Mariah Carey the artist then you would welcome hearing another Walter A production. Their last being Lead The Way.

Re: Charmbracelet (94,760) (94,772) by Nicky from Jasmine's Sofa
Love this question and it's definitely hard. But here's what I'm feeling today, in order:

1st - Yours
This was just after Glitter. That era was sparkly, glossy, shiny... glittery. This as a first single would showcase her voice first, in a smooth and clean and clear production style.

2 - Lullaby
I love this song so much. I feel like it's so relatable and it crosses genres. It doesn't sound like anything else from that time and the beginning notes are reminiscent of MJ in the 80s. A slick video could have set this off to show a more mysterious, "shady lady" side of Mariah. Again, offsetting the shine and glimmery pop image of Glitter.

3 - BOTH
This was a smart single. Many people have said this is the only song on the album they liked. With many lambs and fans left unsure after her previous era, this is a familiar song, great rendition, strong single in general.

4 - Through The Rain remix with Kelly and Joe
This remix is so much better to listen to than the original. The original is an art piece, but it's too heavy to consume imo. The lyrics are so great and I feel like the remix showcases them more. It tells a story and it makes you feel good. It doesn't sound like a ballad. This would have been a great final single for the album.

Honorables

I love Boy (I need you) but the video was not supportive of the song imo. Maybe it would have performed better if it was given a whole different context and image.

I also love Clown and had Glitter been successful (as it really should have been) then the purpose of Charmbracelet wouldn't have been to make safe choices in order to reassure fans that she's still got it together. If this was the case, Clown would have been a great edgy but beautiful, pretty but shady song to release. The controversy would have sent it up the charts and again, a great video (I picture WBT shower scene and satin sheets Mariah for it, and Bianca?) would have just set it off. Just for laughs.

If this was a different world, Subtle Invitation would be a single and smash the adult contemporary world sending lounge jazz singers around the world to add it to their live sets. This is one I've my favorite songs on the album.

Re: Can't Let Go live (94,749) (94,771) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
I have had Can't Let Go on repeat since yesterday. I dont know why but I hardly ever play it even though I love it. It's timeless and rather haunting.

I dont understand the inclusion of the audio of Make It Happen at Madison Square Garden or VH1 Divas Live. They've surely been played to death so much that nobody cares. If it had been, as per William's suggestion, an audio from Daydream tour in London, for example, that would have been fresh and exciting. The releases were a little on the safe side.

Re: Walter live videos on instagram (94,765) (94,770) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Oh, more musings of an immature little drama queen, relatively new to the world of Mariah, fixating hate upon someone just because it suits their little dramatic view of the world as good vs evil. You're a moron.

Walter Afanasieff is responsible for many of Mariah's greatest songs, including All I Want For Christmas Is You and Hero, the two songs by which she is known. He has never to my knowledge been disrespectful of Mariah in interview and has always praised her talent. That he didn't leave his job with the massive company to follow an artist whose popularity and voice were waning and whose behaviour was becoming increasingly erratic was probably - no, absolutely - the right thing to do for him personally.

Mariah spent 5 years in obscurity after Columbia then had success for a couple of years only to fall into obscurity again. She has hardly been on top for 30 years. Nobody ever is. Furthermore, Mariah has not written a popular selling or streaming song in a decade, herself. Given that Walter Afansieff and Mariah Carey used to produce the most amazing music together, you would think that a lamb would be eager for them to take another stab at it. But immaturity wins the day. He's the villain of the piece in the mind of immature little queens who have practically only just learned who he even is and so he is besmirched and his contribution to Mariah's catalogue disregarded.

Daddy obviously left home pretty early on in your developmental stages, didn't he, princess?

Emotions and Make It Happen HD (94,769) by Bill from the UK
Also, in case anybody missed it, Mariah has uploaded HD versions for the videos of Emotions and Make It Happen on her YouTube/Vevo account. All three Emotions videos are beautiful in my opinion, three of my ultimate favourites.

Re: Womp, womp (94,761) (94,768) by Bill from the UK
Correct me if I am wrong, but the C&C Club Mix is, I believe, the 12" Club Mix re-titled. I think they are one and the same. Do please let me know what the difference is between to the two though if I am wrong. Make It Happen was missing a remix though. There is an edit of the Extended Version (confusingly also called the Radio Edit, same as the edit of the album version). It is available on the US maxi CD (44K 74189). Also a shame the Can't Let Go edit, that removes the whistle and trims down the beginning, wasn't put out. But, I can't and should not complain about these minor things. It is great what Mariah is doing and I love her for it. Having all this material available is amazing.

I didn't listen to the Wally A interview. And I'm not going to. Here's my thing. Did he do her wrong? Possibly yes. But I need everyone to stop acting like he wasn't instrumental to her hits/career and all he did was play piano while she got ideas out of her head. It's ludicrous. He was her writing/producing partner for 6 albums and regardless of their falling out he proved to be a serious part of many of her biggest hits. They had a chemistry. And "All I Want For Christmas" is not a song she just sat at the Casio keyboard and wrote. If MC was that melodically inclined she would've composed wrote arranged all of her own songs like Jewel or Joni Mitchell. Is MC the most talented singer/songwriter ever? IMO yes. But please don't act like Wally A was a hanger-on. He's a musician. Btw he produced My Heart Will Go On for Celine. Not a fluke.

Re: Walter live videos on instagram (94,765) (94,766) by T from USA
And yet the songs they would do together would probably be pure magic. Just like all the songs they did in the past. Imagine a quarantine album where she and he worked exclusively together, and then released it just before Christmas?

Re: Walter live videos on instagram (94,764) (94,765) by We are Lambily from USA
"Lovely and genuine." Mariah won't ever work with him again besides he hasn't produced one good song in over a decade or so. Of course we would still to this day talk about him since she gives him clout. I remember this interview from 2004-2006 where she got asked if she would ever work with him and her no was priceless.

"So many I considered
Closest to me
Turned on a dime and sold me
Out dutifully
Although that knife was chipping
Away at me
They turned their eyes away and
Went home to sleep" - Petals by Mariah Carey

Walter live videos on instagram (94,764) by Kaj Mandalia from UK
Hi fellow lambs. Hope you are all safe and well. Just wanted to let you all know Walter did a live video on instagram and he was so sweet and sincere and answered all Mariah questions so respectfully. I think this will be often so please if you can tune in and may be encourage him to maybe get in touch with her to work together again? I know wishful thinking but it would be awesome. He seems so lovely and genuine.

Thought I’d let you all know. Love, Kaj.

Make It Happen EP (94,763) by Brad from USA
These are truly great remixes and performances. Among her very best. The brass band sounds are epic and have been joyous for me for nearly thirty years now, as I have imagined those trumpets playing as I walk into a crowded room. Why not? This is the stuff her legendary fans are made of too, those that have been there since day one for every bit of it, good and bad alike. I can't wait for the AYNAF remix EP where she scats to no end and those truly are the height of her crown as the remix queen, IMO. Thank you, Mariah for the gifts.
