Re: Legends Ball (91,106) (91,112) by Licia from USA
Now wait a minute MusicfanJ. I don't know if she would have outsang everyone, but she definitely would have at least tried. Special K yeah even early 2000s Mariah could have shined.

I have to clarify something. My expectation wasn't for any of the singers involved to actually sing during that event. They were there to be honored and not work. What they did was just a wonderful, impromptu surprise. I am in no way implying that Mariah or anyone else was obligated to sing.

Whatever the reason may have been, it just saddened me to hear someone say she was scared to do something that by the time this event happened, she had been doing for a while. I would rather hear someone say she just didn't feel like singing than hear someone say a seasoned artist of her caliber was scared.

Even the early 2000's Mariah would have given it the old college try.

It's waynmumb_0. I'm adding more Mariah items daily. The records should be added this week. This is my husbands account as he's so organised with things than me or no one would ever get any items sent.

"Vilified when others aren't is because she is known as one of the best singers of all time. People expect one of the best singers of all time to be able to sing on command." Randy that's how I think too. I don't expect Mariah to sound perfect all the time (impossible for every human being), but others will because she's Mariah Carey. And I agree with Licia. 90ies Mariah would have outsung everyone on stage. MC surely has her reasons.

Re: Legends Ball (91,100) (91,105) by Randy from USA
I really do not like going back and forth and this topic has been a beaten dead horse for years but the reason MC is vilified when others aren't is because she is known as one of the best singers of all time. People expect one of the best singers of all time to be able to sing on command. I know I know she has nodules, the air conditioning might be too high, the ear monitors might not work, her corset may be too tight, there may have been a casket in front of her, she didn't want to upstage anyone, she just got out the hospital from food poisoning, she didn't get enough sleep last night, her mic wasn't turned up loud enough. These are all the excuses and there are more she, and delusional fans have given over the years.

Re: Legends Ball (91,099) (91,104) by We are Lambily from USA
Hector, you are so wrong, Mariah gave us TEOM and all of its glory around the same time and she was also in UK for Live8. And literally outsang 50+ people including A list singers. Her voice is untouchable, her discography speaks for itself. No singer comes close. And Mariah singing in 2019 sounds better than 99% of what the singers today has to offer.

Re: Legends Ball (91,100) (91,103) by Edward from USA
When Mariah cries, she can't sing. The salty tears affect her voice at a nodular level. It's what happened to her at Michael's funeral, she started choking on a tear.

They're mostly "randos" and nobodies who look like they don't belong in Mariah's following list.

Re: Legends Ball (91,095) (91,101) by Licia from USA
That's how I feel, but I was trying to be nice. I want to believe that it was out of respect, but I know better considering during that time she wasn't at 100%. Had they given the youngins' the opportunity to sing I honestly doubt she would have done it then either. I agree 90s Mariah wouldn't have shied away from that mic.

Re: Legends Ball (91,096) (91,100) by We are Lambily from USA
Good for Yolanda, she is a great singer. But I can name 20 other girls that didn't sing yet once again you guys try to vilify Mariah for it. Okay you should also know by now that Mariah's voice is special. Her nodules has its good and bad sides. And yes if the air is not right Mariah's voice gets affected. The last thing I'm gonna mention is that Mariah was in tears throughout the "singing" part so how do you expect her to sing? She was living in the moment, she has given us 29+ years of pure singing. Went places singers could only dream about and now enjoying life as the living legend she is. How about that?

Mariah knows she's lost her voice. That's why she doesn't grab the mic. Sad but true.

Re: Legends Ball (91,095) (91,097) by Edward from USA
Agree with you 100%. It's one thing not outsinging your idols out of respect, but it's another thing runing away, at every chance, from doing that which made her famous, singing. If it's not a tightly control environment, Mariah won't even try. What else is new? In the 90's, Mariah would just take a damn mike and sing, period.

Re: Legends Ball (91,089) (91,096) by Randy from USA
Yolanda Adams grabbed the mic. She's in the same generation. The titling at the bottom called her a youngin just like MC was tagged a youngin. That's an iconic moment. MC is a studio singer and that was a moment without an engineer or the possibility of a retake or had a camera or not a concert full of fans. We all know by now that if it's not 73.5 degrees in a room on a day where she's had 8.5 hours of sleep and at least 300 delusional fans and ear monitors that have been tested three times, she's not going to be at her best.

Re: Legends Ball (91,085) (91,095) by Special K from USA
Ah no ma'am you were spot on in your original post. Mariah was scared. During that time TEOM was on fire. She should have taken the mic and let spirit move her ass instead of worrying about being perfect.

In the back (91,090) by Nikki from usa
"If you watch the show, I was heading back toward the background singers, because I felt like that's where I belong." Mariah said that referencing Aretha Franklin. It wasn't about respect, but reverie. Mariah had an open invite, on more than one occasion, to work with Stevie Wonder. We know how much she loves him. She always said, "in my dreams". He may have played harmonica for her, but no collab.
She doesn't feel worthy of singing alongside of them. Mariah's been gushing about gospel since she came out, so it's likely she doesn't feel like she's in the same league. She's the starstruck fan girl in these scenarios.

Re: Legends Ball (91,081) (91,089) by We are Lambily from USA
Licia, it's about having respect to the people you look upto. I don't think I remember anyone from Mariah's generation singing that night.

Also that's one of the most beautiful qualities about Mariah in my eyes, she is so shy with her beautiful and untouchable voice.

She is the greatest female singer-songwriter-producer of all time and no one comes even close. And one of the top 3 artists of all time.
