Re: Caution Grammy chances (90,924) (90,940)

Epic included Caution in it's For Your Consideration ad. I think it will be nominated for R&B Album of the Year and With You will be nominated for Best R&B Song. I don't think it'll be nominated in any of the general fields though.

I guess it could be about someone else, but I've always thought it was about Nick since it was one of the last-minute additions to the album.

Memoirs (90,938)
by Tijl from Belgium

I can hardly believe it's already been a decade since MC released "Memoirs". An album that feels like reading somebody's diary. A shame it didn't perform as well at the time so the "Angel's Advocate" project never saw the light of day. I still love the Jump Smoker's remix to H.A.T.E.U.

I love Memoirs. I have always thought Memoirs reflected a woman in love. Ironically, MIAM reflected a woman dealing with the breakdown of her marriage 4 years later.

I know this album does not get a lot of love, but I've always enjoyed the summery retro-current dreamy feel it has. I remember release day and getting my physical copy. That was 10 years ago? What? Feels like yesterday.

Yup, it's time that AIWFCIY becomes a number one. I never understood why it didn't in 94. Since it's release it's loved by so many. So it should be her 19th this year. MC deserves it.

Diss tracks (90,934)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
| |
|
|
Since Mariah is the poster child for epic shade-throwing, it's only logical that she writes the best diss songs around as well.
To me, it's between Clown and It's A Wrap, but I'd give it to the latter because of its overall impact as a song. There just aren't many diss tracks out there that are set to a retro jazzy doo-wop backdrop. It's the contrast between the theme and the musical component of the song that makes it work better. It lends it this musical theater number feel. Plus, it features possibly the most violent Mariah lyric ever, "I should crack you right in your forehead."
Clown is close behind. While lyrically more poetic, it's the almost unintelligible rapid delivery that makes it less impactful. Diss tracks are best when you don't have to have a lyric sheet on hand just to understand it. Still a good song that would have been better sung with a fuller vocal performance.

Someday is another great one. Prisoner is so cool, I'm happy to see that this song is getting some love. I love young Mariah's rap at the end, see ya.

Wait. Can we talk about how underrated the iconic legendary "Clown" is for a min. I mean, dare I say lyrically it slayed a little harder than Obsessed, like Clown was a sincere poet heartfelt diss. I lived for the musical and vocal build up the acoustic elements and how it accompanied the melody so well. Ugh. She's so good.

MC is off to a great start with an awesome deluxe edition of Merry Christmas. Here's hoping the trend of smart choices continues. AIWFCIY deserves to be #1 so much.

Love It's a Wrap. Thirsty and Prisoner are great too. Obsessed is one of the most iconic diss tracks of all time, hands down. The windex reference and the video alone are just too epic. I always felt slightly embarrassed by this one though. Only because she's a press conference and he's just conversation, yet he's lead single and she's some album cut. But I guess he had this one coming. He did go as far as playing certain voice recordings during his tour prior to Obsessed being released. If he wasn't such a boy with a mommy complex, he wouldn't have fallen head over heels for her when she was just being a typically flirtatious Aries girl. Get over it hun.

For me hands down Obsessed. Mariah straight dissed Eminem with those scathing, cleverly, well written lyrics. Mariah had more "balls" than all of those rappers that had beef with Eminem. The ultimate slap in the face to Eminem is the fact that Obsessed turned out to be a hit, then Mariah gets Gucci Maine, who to this day still can't stand him on the remix. Man the streets was on fire when the video dropped with Gucci dressed in a white suit looking ghetto fabulous appearing to be laughing at Eminem. Standing O is another awesome diss track. "Around of applause, to the biggest fool in the world." I have to give a shout out to Clown and I agree Stacey, Someday is a good diss track too. "Boy you're going to pay because I'm the one whose keeping score."

Caution Grammy chances (90,924)
by this_is_qhm from the Philippines

Unfortunately slim to none, so I'd be floored if it actually gets a nod. The submission cutoff for entries is drawing near, but I feel like these albums have a chance at being nominated for Album of The Year regardless of actual merit:
Igor (Tyler The Creator) thank u, next (Ariana Grande) Hollywood's Bleeding (Post Malone) Lover (Taylor Swift) Happiness Begins (The Jonas Brothers) When We Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go (Billie Eilish) No. 6 Collaborations Project (Ed Sheeran) Cuz I Love You (Lizzo) (insert country / rock album here) A Star Is Born Soundtrack (Various Artists)
It's a shame Caution would most probably not be one of those, but I guess we'll see once the nominees are announced later this year.
Did I miss anything? I feel like Billie, Taylor, Lizzo and the A Star Is Born Soundtrack have the best chances. How about y'all?

Prisoner. She actually says "Don't mean to diss you." I would love to hear more of that style of Mariah 90s rap.
"You can't do that I'm not a door mat You're just a player That's not my format (hey oh, oh) See ya (prisoner of your love)"

The store is ridiculous. Every time I order it takes at least 10 weeks usually longer and her website is the only one I've experienced such long wait times compared to other online stores.
