Re: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (99,067) (99,078) by Stacey from USA
Honestly it doesn't matter if AIWFCIY hits #1 again. The song hit #1 two years in a row. No holiday song has ever done that, let alone a holiday song 25 years after its release. It is Mariah's 19th #1 song. It's a number one. Nothing can change that. Enjoy the holiday season. Merry Christmas.

This is the night that MC will be on Late Late Show with James Corden. The TV Guide lists her as the sole guest. I hope that it is something special.

Hi Randy. Nice to see an old time familiar face. As it was said before, not a lot of the people who always posted seem to post anymore. Nice to see you pop in. Hope you are well.

Re: I stopped by to talk about... Drake? (99,064) (99,075) by Matty from Vancouver Canada
Mariah has literally been singing this tune and rolling her eyes at the Grammy's for a decade and a half (a female who was at the top of her game), knowing they are so inconsistent and it's all opinion and music politics based. Now that The Weekend and Drake are getting vocal about the same issue (males currently at the top of their game), the public seem to be all ears and listening and questioning. There's no rhyme or reason for nominations or wins; if it was only what's popular, The Weekend would be nominated in every category that pertained to him in 2020 (rather then a fat snub). If it was all a deep scientific research based deep dive into quality music (whatever that would look like) Milli Vanilli never would have won even if they actually song on their album. Whether it was Emotions (song), the entire Daydream era fiasco, the entire Butterfly album, or even Caution album, the random snubs and dismissal is clear as day that it's an inside hateration job. Is Beyoncé really worth half a million Grammy's? Is U2, seriously? I wish Mariah's intro at talk shows and award shows would stop saying "5 time Grammy winner..." as the lead. Drop that and say "19 World Music Awards; 15 Billboard music Awards, the legend and Songbird Supreme Mariah Carey".

Re: Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree (99,067) (99,072) by Edward from USA
The song has gone to #1 because the general public likes it, and it's a good thing. The lambs left don't have any control over its position on the charts anymore, if they had, an awesome album like "The Rarities" would've sold millions. Two years in a row going to #1 is a great accomplishment, the song has legs of its own, it doesn't depend on Mariah of the lambs where it will go.

Hi Randy, I sure miss you. I do miss Andrew too, I hope he's doing well. Many of the regulars very rarely post anymore.

I do agree with you. The Grammy's have been for years now a popularity contest. Most of the members are not what one would consider music experts, they're mere mortals like the rest of us hence their vote towards what's popular. I'm not saying that Alanis Morissette and Seal didn't deserve to win since those were great records, but it seemed to be there were forces working against Mariah to win anything that night.

Don't be a stranger, it gets boring here on a regular basis.

I stopped by to talk about... Drake? (99,064) by Randy from USA
Hey everyone: Eric, Robert-Anthony, Edward, Jade, Hilton and even RJ112 and Terna. I still see what's going on here every now and then but I'm not invested as much in MC. She's moving in a different direction than I am, you know 60 pound dresses, McDonalds promos in the middle of the ocean and remakes of her remakes that sound like an alien singing in auto tune. What's next, a cookie line? Anyway. I said I'm gonna be more positive. I gotta give it to Drake for withdrawing himself from the Grammys. On the surface it seems like a pretty pampered suburban boy thug whining. But in actuality we have been saying this for years. I love Bonnie Raitt but how could she beat MC for best pop female vocal for Emotions in 1991? There has never been a vocal that ridiculous on wax. And it's not just the whistles. Listen to the low note at the bottom of the last run. Listen to the high full voice adlibs. It's insane. I don't quite think it's a New Year's Eve song though. It brings down the mood. 1996 was a tough year for Grammy voters and I love Kiss From A Rose, I Apologize and Jagged Little Pill but some obscure track from Annie Lennox over Fantasy? Those aren't sweet dreams. Or sweet Daydreams or sweet Fantasies. That selection really happened. 2005 was the ultimate diss. Firstly, I'm an older fan, not necessarily a lamb, more like a butterfly in a wool coat. But I remember leading up to the Grammys, the critics predicting MC was going to win because the Grammys love a comeback story. The critics said U2 deserved to win because they had the better album but Mariah would prevail. Then MC went through all that late night memorizing where the pasted studio raspy vocals that matched her live texture were cued and the audience, respecting seeing her sweat, gave her a standing ovation. Eric I swear I have a point. Indulge me a little. I was beat up mercilessly for my analysis in 2006 on this board, by the way, and now everyone knows that that performance was a masterful dice job. Anyway back to the 2006 Grammies. Now years later, after Kanye peed in his Grammy and Drake has thrown up deuces, the critics are listing the 2006 Album of the Year snub as one of Grammys gravest errors, pointing out U2 doesn't even perform songs from How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. Something smells fishier than Florence SC. Home of the fish sandwich. Only wool crusted butterflies would get that reference. Andrew if you're out there, I hope you're well. Everyone else, I love this board and I just have to ask, did ya miss me?

Re: Debut Mariah (99,062) (99,063) by Jamie from UK
Yeah but as we've shown she got herself back between 2005-2010 she was very humble again and grounded. All I'm saying is at the moment and for a while she's taken on this whole persona. I'm not asking for debut Mariah back that would be silly as times change, yes people do change but they still retain elements of who they are. To me it's like she's lost all of who she once was. I love Mariah and always will but I'd love her to take time out to find herself again like she was in the video Bill shared, humble grounded and in touch with reality.

Debut Mariah (99,062) by Tyler from United States
For everyone who wants the old Mariah back. That ship has sailed. For a superstar of Mariah's caliber, she's about as normal and down to earth as you're ever going to get. Think of the others that were/are her true icon-level peers (Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna). You don't soar to those heights and stay the same person. Add the upbringing to the super fame and you get what you have. Lambs are lucky she does as well as she does. I think she's perfect.

I understand better now, Edward. She needs a young songwriter, producer, and vocal coach like Madicin. Check out his songs on Kenny Lattimore's Here To Stay. This young man is the Babyface of today.

Now that's Mariah. She is exactly the same there as she was in her early days. That's the Mariah she needs to reconnect with.

Re: Who's loving you / debut era (99,056) (99,057) by Bill from the UK
Well put Jamie. She hit that balance when she married Nick. I've posted this before, but this is one of my most favourite Mariah interviews. She seemed in such a good place, was relatable, down to earth and friendly, funny, engaged, looked great and just seemed very self assured but also unassuming. Exactly where a singer of her accolades should be.

Re: Who's loving you / debut era (99,050) (99,056) by Jamie from UK
I agree Bill, whilst I've come to accept the MC of present I've always wondered what happened to that soulful singer of the early days. She didn't even need to try and be cool she just was. I get Sony made her dress certain ways but they can't control her personality.

Even in the Butterfly era she was still herself just a bit more confident but that worked too. Something serious happened around the time before and after her breakdown as like you say it's like it's a completely different person.

I did think she got close to being herself again during Emancipation and E=MC2 but after that I feel something went wrong again. I know she has her mental health struggles but surely she must look at those early days and think she's so disconnected from that person.

I'm not expecting her to have curly hair tied up and skipping around a field like in Dreamlover again but I think she needs to reconnect with her earlier self and loose the whole diva act, it hasn't been working for sometime now so instead of letting go of her inner child I think she should think about letting go of this persona she's created. Loose the divaness, look good but don't get hung up about it and just connect with people better.

Dare I say it but Jennifer Lopez is glam looks great but when she speaks to interviewers she's so natural and down to earth you don't say where's the Jennifer from on the 6 because it's the same person.

It's easy for us to comment I guess we don't really know Mariah but I think deep down we all know she's capable of better and like I said Sony may have said she could say certain things back then but her personality was all hers and that must be still in there somewhere.

"Those lyrics and productions must improve dramatically." I hope so too. I don't expect 90ies quality as well, luckily we can listen to those magic songs over and over again. But real musicians would make a big difference indeed. Not only a "cool" producer. One can dream.
