Re: New Christmas song (98,879) (98,890) by Bobby A from United States
Lol. He knew if he had commented on a post directed at me he would have been found out long before now. He had to play nice to keep his cover.

Re: Babyface (98,886) (98,889) by Bill from the UK
I do love their four outings together. Never Forget You, Melt Away, Every Time I Close My Eyes and When You Believe are all gorgeous songs. My only issue with Babyface is that his production is a bit "samey". It is worth noting though that Mariah self-produced Melt Away so it doesn't seem as though he was involved in it enough to be considered controlling.

Re: Too much hype (98,868) (98,888) by RibbonB from USA
Really Edward, bringing up Tony/Tommy? The "songs" are strange. The first part is a missed opportunity to showcase Khalid's vocals, which is obscured by auto tune or something. The second song actually is a little earworm. But it's just a strange combination. If she'd just let someone construct her some great songs, or just sing some of the great American songbook tunes, she'd be better off at this stage of her voice.

Re: Babyface (98,877) (98,887) by 123 from USA
Babyface hasn't had a hit in decades. I liked his 90s productions but Mariah was always the better songwriter.

Re: Babyface (98,877) (98,886) by T from USA
I wonder too. Especially since he was instrumental in the Whitney duet. As well as respected by many of Mariah's favorites. The only conclusion I can think of is Mariah is very controlling in her work and I've heard Babyface takes a strong reigns when he's in the studio (much like the Neptunes) so it's easier for him to work with artists like Toni Braxton who needs the heavy handed guidance.

Oh really, Eric?! Unfortunately - or, perhaps, fortunately - I've been away, and so have missed the birth of the Ciaran era. I'm sure it's been delightful. Andy, babes, I do have to say that given your... your "Je ne sais quoi", I'd have expected something a bit more incognito, perhaps? It doesn't hurt to make an effort.

I see you "Ciaran". [Webmaster: We already know that Ciaran is Andrew in disguise. I already had to delete some of his messages.]

FILAC (98,883) by Anonymous from UK
A weekend into the song, and I like it. It shoulda been relegated to the Rarities 2, maybe, or deep into an album as a non Christmas song, but objectively, as a track, I like it overall. Mariah's falsetto sounds gorgeous to me, the melody and layering are stunning, particularly on her verse, and the choir is great. The downsides for me are the production, Khalid (What's the point of his contribution? Her worst collabo to date, 100%) and Kirk himself giving us his bit at the end, but I'm not even mad at that, that's what he does. Saying that, I don't really get the point of Kirk overall. What does he do but direct?

I also don't like this non falsetto voice she's singing in. Not to open a massive vocals debate, but it sounds throaty and metallic to me, as if she's singing from her head, with strain, and then auto tuned on top? I don't know, but it's not as pleasant as she sounded last year doing lockdown stuff, so I presume it's an over laid effect. But, despite my grumbles, I enjoy it a lot more than a snowman or the star, and, as has been picked up by lambs, it's very late after tonight, and I've had moments of being taken back to the feeling of buying Rainbow upon release, so I'm grateful for a new decent track, these small blessings and nostalgic moments.

I'm not here for anything "Lets Go Brandon", but in response to your comment on American politics and foreigners, I gotta say that U.S politics do, unfortunately, affect the entire world, and it's normal for us to have a vested interest in them. The world is more of a web than ever now, and what happens in one of the major world players, especially the U.S., has consequences for us all.

Mariah's new song (98,881) by Rene from US
Since the I heard the song, it reminded me of a song somewhere in my subconscious. And I knew it wasn't a Mariah song. Because in my head, I remembered a different arrangement. I couldn't remember which one. Today, it hit me which one. It sounds to me like Toni Braxton's "Spanish Guitar". I like the new song but it is confusing how they have the breakdown. It sounds like two songs. They could've just made two songs instead. The lyrics from each section, slow part versus uptempo, also doesn't sound so cohesive. I don't know. It sounded romantic at first then it goes into a churchy mode.

It just amazes me how many people that don't live in the US are so invested in our politics. Like Damian in Mean Girls said "she doesn't even go here", also this is a Mariah Carey blog/fan site and not a political platform. Let's not bring politics into this especially when you know nothing about the everyday struggles of Americans. Stick to what you know.

"For me, the form is so obvious it borders on trite but, alas we are all differently abled when it comes to discerning structure." Rarely has a sentence been more grammatically erroneous and cognitively repugnant. Or just totally, totally pretentious.

Babyface (98,877) by Bobby A from United States
I find it very odd that MC has never worked with Babyface since Daydream. I wonder why she has passed him over for James Poyser and Big Jim Wright. His sound evolved after Daydream for sure. His production and arrangements on Tori Kelly's Christmas album proves that. MC better bring it with MC16 in 2022.

They're there for pre-order (released December 7th). For those that don't have the DVDs, they are £5 each. The First Vision is £9 and Tokyo Dome is £11. So glad TFV is being released as the DVD from Japan is far too expensive. Plus I doubt this will have the Japanese sub titles throughout the interview with MC either.

New Christmas song (98,874) by Geronimo from USA
I enjoy this song far more than "Oh Santa" and less than "Miss You Most". I do love the texture of her voice on this recording and I'm glad she settles into a groove and avoids somersaulting all over the bass and treble clefs. It's beyond me how someone can say this song lacks form, though. I felt the form could have been a bit more complex in the first half of the song but, at the same time, I really love Mariah's voice nowadays when she's singing a well contained melody. For me, the form is so obvious it borders on trite but, alas we are all differently abled when it comes to discerning structure. But, as always, I could have lived forever without any of the visuals and without any audio from brother Franklin - but that's just me.

I thought it was Friday-Thursday? For instance, "Easy on me" came out on a Thursday at 7pm, 5 hours before the chart week ended. The song debuted at #68. The following week it went to #1 after a full week of the song being released.

Probably not. On the iTunes Store it says on the bottom 2021 Mariah, under exclusive license to RCA Inspiration, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. Which one is the studio company in here?

I was corrected on Twitter by a chart expert. She said that the chart week runs from Thursday through Friday and streaming is not high enough right now to make that kind of prediction. gslay-@ari_ grandslay23 is my go to follower keep everybody posted. She really knows all about Billboard's chart calculation. She said also that AIWFCIY will still have a good chance to be number #1 by Christmas despite Adele's 30 and Easy chart domination right now. It is going to be an interesting next six weeks.

Too much hype (98,868) by Edward from USA
According to the way Mariah was hyping up this song, one could've inferred she had a hidden gem or something. When editing out anything after the minute 3:35, I make the song somewhat passable. Sadly, evidenced by whatever is happening in this song vocally, Mariah has kind of turned into a "one trick whistle". I know I'll be crucified before Thanksgiving here, but there's no way Tony would've allowed her to put this song out, but oh well. It is what it's not.
